Just spent the month of May in New Zeeland. 23 days in a Campervan, 7 in hotels, Started in Christchurch and drove all the way to Auckland. Mostly stayed in Powered campsites to have an electric heater going at night. We had a sunny day in Milford Sound and the dolphins showed up too.

It's on our list to do a Milford Sound cruise but last time we were down that way we had our dog with us and you can't take dogs into Fiordland National park.
