Hey! I actually have dilema about this. I am preping and just want to be in an awesome shape for military and i really want to stick to one programm but here is my dilemma. Crossfit workouts like HWPO programming from mat frazer are amazing they have a lot of strenght pieces and besides that metcons and conditioning are preatty tough if you do them right. But i have been bouncing if i should stick to that programming or should i go more on the route of mission specific which involves 3-4 times a week pure strenght training with simple methods like 5/3/1 and maxing out pull ups push ups etc and for conditioning running and rucking a lot. This concept is probably preatty good for military but crossfit like HWPO from mat frazer on the other side is preatty challenging to and can get you in really really good shape. I just want to know your opinion thank you
Hi Jim that’s really interesting. I’ve considered cross fit a number of times as I like the idea of that rounded fitness. But never really liked the idea of some of the things you mention in this video. Deadlifting for time for example. After a few years off training properly I’m trying to do similar to what you advocate (albeit not 6 days worth) couple of days of strength and couple of days of conditioning. How I found your Channel searching for that on you tube actually. You seem to imply that cross fit wouldn’t be that beneficial for military training or at least not as good as other training methodology but how about someone who trains strength and cardio separately up against someone who has trained CrossFit specifically undertaking a WOD (I don’t really know any but something which involves a bit of strength and cardio) all things being equal, started their respective training at the same level, train same frequency and for the same amount of time. Long message sorry. Ps no military interest.
Hey Richard. It's a great question actually; the variation in energy systems might be something a CrossFitter has more experience in, but I think really with this it would depend on what the conditioning modality was? If it primarily running I imagine a Hybrid Athlete would have better capacity, but it was mixed modal then perhaps a CrossFitter would dominate because that IS their speciality. So it guess it would depend who designed the workout. LOVE the question though.
As someone aspiring to become a RM this is great thanks Jim, almost at 1k subs!
Appreciate this, bro!
