I was hoping he would show what it does if you get in its way over and over and over on purpose. He got in its way a little bit and it tried to go around him I think? But I'm guessing that if some kids or someone keeps purposely messing with it and getting in its way, it will probably let an alarm go off, or make a loud noise of some kind to tell a Wal-Mart associate, "Hey come get these people off me I'm trying to work!"
big red's outdoor adventures---Ah, you cracked the code. Lull the customers into THINKING you're servicing them more efficiently, but nothing's going to change. People are still going to put items back in the wrong place, kids are going to switch out items just because they can, etc. Once the robot passes the area, things can get mucked up and it won't get remedied until the NEXT pass-through by the robot, which could be 24 hours or so, depending upon how big the store is.
MARCO NICA_505--How clean a Walmart is depends upon two factors: 1) how well the manager supervises the employees assigned to keep the bathrooms clean and stocked as well as the floor aisles clear of trash, excess inventory, pallets, and the detritus left behind by shoppers (empty soda cans, food wrappers, diapers--yes, diapers), and other garbage and 2) the clientele who frequent the store. The closer you are to a ghetto/barrio, the filthier the Walmart stores tend to be. The Walmart servicing Redlands, CA, USED to be open 24 hours a day to accommodate the many hospital employees who work in the area and the proximity to two major freeways--until the gang infiltration from San Bernardino, however. It is no longer open 24 hours and the new manager keeps the store clean, the shelves stocked, and the employees on task. That's a far cry from the filthy and dangerous place it used to be (although, honestly, it's still not all that safe after sundown to closing).
"It's not replacing workers"... nonsense, of course it's replacing workers. They wouldn't be buying robots if they didn't replace workers. Walmart is not a charity to provide people with jobs.
Walmart thinks, hoping that eliminating these tasks might allow them to cut at least one person per department or close to it. I'm sure next step, their warehouses will start to be automated. It'll seem sweet to the guys back there at first. But, they'll notice, after the process is perfected, how it takes less people to everything back there. At first, it'll just be hey you can go home early. Sweet, an hour off. It'll be quite often, then a random extra day, then days and eventually people will disappear. Some will get lucky & get to move somewhere else. But, everything can be streamlined. They hope and sadly might be able to do it.
They are not a charity, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're adding robots to replace workers. They could be adding robots to become more efficient and generate more income. (In this case, they are quicker to notice something missing from the shelf so they can fill it faster, thus selling more products.)
Efficiency, efficiency! Now just 2% of the population can grow all the food where 90% used to do it. Telephone switching used to employ hoards of women but now a pizza-box-sized switch will do it all. Self-driving vehicles will supplant 3 million drivers and millions of subsidiary occupations. This would all be wonderfull if it didn't result in ever-greater wealth concentration... a few getting much, much richer while more and more slip into poverty. Walmart & Amazon: employing thousands more people? Or gutting small businesses with good paying jobs and replacing those jobs with fewer minimum wage jobs? It must be the latter or the economics of Walmart & Amazon wouldn't have worked. The consumer is temporarily thrilled that they can buy toilet paper for 10 cents less. Even more thrilled when they can buy toilet paper for 10 cents less again AND have it delivered. Consumer is quickly heartbroken when his/her job disappears in a fog of automation and efficiency. Automation isn't going away. Efficiencies are not going away. What needs to go away is the impoverishment of people when the jobs go away. 95% marginal tax rate on corporate profits and top wage earners. Socialized healthcare. Socialized education. Infrastructure investments to make work and strengthen the whole nation. Efficiencies are great but only if they benefit everyone and not just the top 1%.
That robot is not replacing workers. It should be able to heavily reduce hours due to mistakes mainly. Customers move things around, and store employees block spots on shelves with other items so it appears nothing is out. It's win-win for the store, a win for the customer hopefully finding everything in stock. The best part is it can make those lazy employees accountable to get the items on the shelves. It takes a store a long time if someone disputes a price that rung up, that robot should help fix those errors. No one likes to be behind me in the checkout lane, as I know the price of every item and makes sure it's rung up correctly. I would be ecstatic if it came to my local grocery store that has loads of mismatched prices. It's like they are trying to cheat people that aren't paying attention.
Dennis W Knew this idiotic comment was coming. You see the robot filling the aisles, jackass? Sorry, Princess, there will be still be people working and making a decent wage.
Of curse they're going said that, waltmart still want you buy there. For me is noooo! The robot is talking people jobs and the price are everyday more expensive
This robot would break down after doing a half an aisle at my store with all the plugged items, bad top stock, missing or flipped over labels and general out of place stuff like ice cream in the chemical aisle...
This system is a collector, that's all. If it finds something out of place, it'll simply send an alert to the cloud where it'll be routed to the proper manager. From there it'll be assigned to a CSR and corrected. Just another ticket completed. Bottom line, they want to cut down on inventorying on quarterly basis. And attempt to get it back to twice a year, or annually.
Nighthawke70 The issue I was pointing out was the fact that this robot would basically be highly ineffective if stores are not zoned right to begin with. I set mods every night and for me to come back the next night and it looked so trashed as to look like it hadn't even been set...the clientele at our location is Soo sloppy, found a corn dog from the bakery deli 2 weeks ago, expired in April where it lay on the shelf from a customer, DM obviously didn't care enough to notice and zoners didn't dispose of it. Walmart can automate all they want, in the end it comes down to human beings actually getting out there, filling the shelves, verifying outs/counts, and zoning. This robot would be pointless unless the entire store were inventory zoned every single day which given lack of labor isn't viable. Reports mean nothing if managers aren't doing anything about it. Just another useless piece of machinery to waste money on, how's those nice cash counting machines in the COs working out? Oh yeah, jamming out. Meanwhile, the company is going so far downhill. They have lost touch with their customer base and detached themselves from what customers truly want and need because they are desperately trying to future proof and compete with Amazon, they are more connected to Amazon then their customers and ultimately it will be their undoing.
I've tried to tell everybody 10 years ago about self check out at all retailers stores will reduce jobs and replace robots to clean, stock and to arrest shoplifters too.
OMG! I laughed so hard at this video, notice how this store is perfectly zoned with not an item out of place, does your Wal-Mart look like this? NOT!! They should invest in a robot that goes up and down every aisle zoning and picking up all the crap their customers leave behind!
Surely they must have some kind of software, showing them their stock? and surely that software will track whats being sold and what not? I don't see the point of this.
I work at a grocery store and pick out items for online orders. The amount of times the stock is incorrect on the app is surprising. People steal, return items, or the items are just not on the shelves. It is hard in a big store to keep track of each item, so I see this robot as extremely useful! I would definitely love to see this robot where I work.
Robots don't take breaks, lunches, bathroom breaks, don't complain, don't get yearly raises, never calls in sick, never takes a vacation, always on time, never talks to customers, gets programmed and follows directions, wow!
Never once seen a Walmart that neat and organized ever! I'm sure it works great in those conditions but what about when the aisle is a total disaster like they usually are?
I mean Walmart is kinda known to have the worst employees ever lmfao,I saw this one drunk female employee in a NJ walmart who was wasted on the floor and I barked at her to wake her up lol
I stopped when the store got so big I felt like I needed to catch a bus to get to the back of the store. And of coarse every time what I needed was in the back of the store.
I am trying to join you... only issue is that they have managed to be the only store in town that offers many things...still...I need to find other solutions... you have done well
They don't even hire Walmart workers as full time , there all part time , corporate America companies are messed up , they would rather robot a job than give a human a job, this robot checking the Walmart isles don't even have any money to spend , humans do, so idk why Walmart would do this
Yep, b!tch some more about low pay. LMAO I like how all the workers b!tching don't take the action to start their own business and see what it's like to have workers. Go ahead.... what's stopping you? Lazyassity?
Unfortunately for workers that say robots are taking their jobs, there's not much you can do about that. No matter how much you think they aren't, humans are expensive. Robots don't need insurance, benefits, overtime. They don't complain and they work 24/7. It's the sad truth that robots are just more worth it than humans in some cases.
@@jackie-sh5of but what if a human is sick? What if not only is the company paying for their health insurance, but the person stops working because they are taking days off because they are sick? Robots are simply more efficient in many cases. This is one of the big reasons things like getting a college education is becoming much more important nowadays to get a good job.
@@duliomartinez8238 I agree with everything you said. | Is humans our bodies ages within seconds and that's why we get tired all the time then sooner or later health begins to decline then afterwards death.
@Providence Freedom That's why engineers, electricians, and technicians would be the 3 main only jobs in the world-(🌎🌍🌏) when robots takes over anything and everything.
Yes there will always need to be a human in control of the machines however the elite think that they are better than 99% of us and wish the world population to get down to minimum what you see on a national and international level is the huge genocide and war against poor people who are just doing their best to live life but to the ridge there are necessary and important and can be replaced even people who have higher education levels like doctors are lawyers are being replaced by diagnostic machines and Technologies and technically the elites see any and everybody is replaceable even celebrities
Facts. I work for a vendor and have to go into Walmart and every single time there is something odd, randomly placed where our products are supposed to go. Sometimes for months on end until one of the vendors moves it. I think people that shop Walmart, walk forward, while looking sideways, picking stuff up and setting it back down 3 aisles later..🤔
I work at Walmart. The robot has sensors and will never run into anyone. There are signs on the robot that tell you not to stare at the lights. It keeps track of battery life and will actually go to a dock in the store where it can recharge. And it is not a floor cleaner, there's another robot for that lol.
I'm alright with robots for food because of the satanists peeing in frosted flakes, buggers and sperm went in pizza dough at Domino's, STD puss in the Whopper burger, I don't trust himself with my food, but everything else, no not without an automation tax for every job replaced by automation given to US citizens annually.
Devils Angel I have to agree..my Mike was injured in the hospital last September can’t drive anymore and our local stop and shop is on strike they are very nasty union workers...my friend worked for stop and shop and because she wouldn’t do nasty things with the produce manager she quit...the union did nothing for her...not only that...live on the east coast and so many of these stores...yea if the workers get what they want you can bet we customers will be paying higher prices...while the workers go on 4 vacations a year...wounder if they can live on 700.00 a month...being greedy does not pay!
@@90AlmostFamous they are supposed to have a system the automaticly reorders a product when its sold at the register but they also let managers scan barcodes and manually order stuff. the system has never really worked they way its supposed too as far as i know
Walmart already has robots everywhere. They treat their employees like robotic slaves. Between Management and customers, it's a wonder they keep anyone
there will be no need to have them work that time because the configuration of the store is unique to black friday it dont need to restock when all the shelves were designed to be fully stocked for that particular event with many workers making sure it is full to its demanding conficiencies
I work at Walmart, we do not have these yet. I can tell you the shelves are not tidy like the shelves in this video. Our shelves are a mess from customers and when customers change there mind about a product they just put it anywhere. I have found meat that was was shoved behind the candy at check out that turned green.
Its ok and when your store has these robots they may not need you at work no more. These sheep thinking its only scanning are sadly gonna be mistaken with how much data it takes from ya and jobs. I been to a store with these robots they got a CRAP TON MORE ROBOTS THEN THESE.
Devon Taylor You’re funny. Accusing people of being “sheep” yet they believe *correct* information. This robot literally scans for product as described in the video rather than having software scan the products and falsely determine the amount of product needed. It’s merely an innovation on an old concept.
I'm a rideshare driver & I picked up an employee from wholefoods who just finished doing inventory of the store and he found fresh fish behind cereal that expired 2 weeks ago.
Great idea and concept. Only problem is some walmartian or their kids will come along and knock this over onto the ground and damage or destroy it in no time.
I agree, one thing if it is interrupted more than X times I would imagine it would send an urgent notification for assistance to the MOD or GM while asset protection would also be on the way to it's location. To say the obvious it would also take a very nice photo of anyone tampering with it.
cant imagine this working too well due to it being a magnet for every kid in the store to play with it and stop it from doing its work. If it were me I would install an on rail system suspended 9ft off the ground in the center of all the aisles with a google maps style spherical camera to map out the shelves, send the data to the stockroom supervisor to delegate restocking. you dont need an automated machine with radar to tell if a shelf is empty.
Humans are not meant for cheap manual labour. Our focus as a species should be on creating art, gaining knowledge in medicine and science and technology. The rest of the jobs can be automated so I'm glad this is finally happening
Good point which makes me believe that it's for restocking empty shelves with inventory they already have in the back warehouse and not to reorder. This in the near future will be followed by another robot that will do the restocking in few minutes later. They lose lots of revenue when shelves are empty.
Not when you have tens of thousands of items, a computer does that when adding things to the shelf and scanning them out at the cash register. The problem is theft and the computer can think something is in stock (and not reorder it) while the shelf sits empty. That is what the machine is doing - verification.
The robot is saving costs by replacing more expensive workers. You are going to pay less once it is implemented fully. Don't expect any major changes anytime soon though, it's going to be a slow decrease

they need this at Target! I am tired of going to a different store to find an item that should be in stock only to get there and it isn't because their staff is too lazy to update their inventory.
I work at this location and I'm glad they got rid of that thing it was always in the way and the store is usually packed. I think they where just testing it out for a few months but I hope it doesn't come back that thing is annoying.
This is good. This type of technology should replace men and women that used to scan products. It's what happens when you don't have a useful skill or have learned a marketable trade. The more Americans we can get designing and creating this type of technology will make us a stronger country. Do we want a United States of America twenty years from now to be scanning merchandise, cleaning floors, and laboring over other menial tasks? Or, do we want U.S citizens coding, and designing the technology of tomorrow? I know what I'd opt for...

As robots take over more and more jobs and leave human workers with no source of income, eventually everyone will realize why we even need income at all. Since robots do all the work, why not let them work to support us? And if they provide for us, why do we even need money at all? First, products and services will be very cheap (because it will not cost as much to run a robot as it would to hire a human). Then as robots become self replicating and self-fixing, it will cost nothing to run them. That is when everything will be free - at least basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, energy, etc. Anything else that requires human creativity and labor will rightfully cost money. So, for example, if you want a fancy purse designed by a human, you will have to pay. But if you just want a functional bag made by robots, then it is free. Think about it!
Right now these robots are being created for the sole purpose of increasing profits. You would need an entire shift in global economics for that to change. And you think that kind of world will come without a fight?
Henry TheGreatAmerican You are correct - we humans don't have a good record of using technology to liberate people. So far, every technology tend to increase our working hours while paying us a lot less. But I wanted to wake people up to this great potential so that they no longer buy into the lies that our masters have told us. That is, you need money to live. There's not enough to go around so you must fight for your slice. If we eliminate money then people will be lazy and not do anything. Etc. Without money for basic needs, most crimes will be severely curtailed or eliminated automatically: robery, theft, prostitution, drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, fraud, most murders, etc. And when people's basic needs are met, other social problems will also go away:. Child neglect due to parents having to work night and day to make ends meet, no more homelessness/poverty and crimes associated with poverty, etc etc. That is what robots have the potential to do for us. It will take some time but I think eventually humanity will realize it and just don't care to use money as much anymore. ruclips.net/video/yeIgtpvFXcU/видео.html
The crime will never go away. As long as someone has something others want, there will be some kind of crime (both legal and illegal crime). And since the world has limited resources, there will always be things not everyone can have. How do you determine what gets created? Will the robots make that decision based on their calculations of resources available? And how do you determine who gets these new gadgets since there won't be enough for everyone? Will we use a random lottery as a means to distribute rare stuff? Granted, the basics of life can easily be met such as housing and food, but beyond that it will be interesting.
Henry TheGreatAmerican Like most people today, you are still stuck in the scarcity mentality born from centuries of conditioning by those in power to control you. Think about it, if you don't need money, can your boss make you work? Money is power. Take away money and you take away power. Scarcity may be true centuries ago but not with today's technology. Did you know that U.S. farmers alone can produce enough food to feed the entire world of 7 billion people? The technology that make that possible is called a Combine. So why do we still have hunger and malnutrition right here in the U.S.? It ain't because we are incapable of producing enough food! Also, the idea that resource is finite is a myth - the earth alone has enough resources for everyone, not to mention the moon, Mars, and the asteroid belt that we are already beginning to explore. Example: oil has always been underneath our feet but it was not considered a resource until the 20th Century when we invented machines that need it (Industrial Revolution). Silicon was not considered useable until the advent of the Integrated Circuit and solar cells in today's computer age. Lithium was also useless before until the invention of lithium batteries to run our portable devices and electric cars. All these raw materials were junk to us humans until someone came up with a use for them. Then all of a sudden, they became valuable resources. What am I getting at? The earth has plenty of raw materials that could become resources when our brain come up with a use for them. It's only limited by our imagination and human imagination is limitless! What raw materials are considered junk today but will be a valuable resource when someone comes up with a technology that needs it in the future? Oil will be used up but we will replace that energy source with solar....or some raw substance we consider to be junk today because we haven't figure out how to use it yet. In regards to crime, yes there will always be crime but not nearly as much simply because there will be no need to steal when everything is free. Anything that can be mass-produced can be free. The only few things that cost money are unique things but those are niceties not required for survival such as a Louis Vuitton purse, a Ferrari, Rolex, etc. Sure, there will still be thiefs stealing Ferraris but how many versus hungry and desperate people in the ghetto today who need to feed their babies so they must steal groceries? Again, AI and robotics have the potential to create a better society even if it won't be a Utopia.
Except people will suffer in a shift. And these companies do this for profit. It goes against them to make anything free. You're only thinking about one potential. We're at the precipice of either needing to get rid of capitalism. Or one where a small group of people can get rid of everyone else. Or where the very few maintain power and even states will fail. There was a recent article about right now. How some view tech companies as too big to mess with. About how government's have failed to curtail these businneses from literally breaking the law. The companies start a business and count on being able to handle the government enough that they government eventually has to side step and lose. What you hope for is a 50/50 outcome at best. And truthfully there's Manny more possible outcomes. And regardless, especially in the u.s right now. The transition will hurt a lot of people. This isn't being pushed by the government as a public good. Or by nonprofits. This is to reap the most benefits to companies, by paying people the least(nothing, except for the people designing it for the time being) As well even in this Utopia. It could needlessly make humans obsolete. People that believe in robot overlords or one good machine never stop to think "do we need to make human thought unnecessary" . Tho I guess it's more like humans themselves
Haha! While your comment at least demonstrates how people are becoming increasingly aware of the issues that come with the exponential growth of automation, it's also quite disappointing that some of those people choose to focus on the symptom and not the overall problem. What exactly is one supposed to "figure" about California and Walmart in particular when the issue is clearly and obviously global and far beyond those two entities? Is it because you figure it's easier to impose your view of politics to any issue as a petty form of scapegoating?
WRONG! "By next February, it expects to have autonomous floor scrubbers in 1,860 of its more than 4,700 US stores. Walmart will also have robots that scan shelf inventory at 350 stores. And there will be bots at 1,700 stores that automatically scan boxes as they come off delivery trucks and sort them by department onto conveyer belts." www.cnn.com/2019/04/09/business/walmart-robots-retail-jobs/index.html

I was hoping he would show what it does if you get in its way over and over and over on purpose. He got in its way a little bit and it tried to go around him I think?
So unfair, the robot can go around a store totally naked but when people do it we get in trouble!

Hard to believe Walmart. Come out Walmart you know that you are replacing us with robots
It says that they are not wanting to replace employees but to free them up for other things...like the unemployment line or searching for another job?

How is that a problem?
monkeyman522 this robot costs more then their entire families net worth I’m sure they’ll love to pay it off and go broke while doing so.
cant imagine this working too well due to it being a magnet for every kid in the store to play with it and stop it from doing its work.
Exactly.
Wait I thought barcodes already do that when they're scanned through the system
people often steal so stock is incorrect
Good point which makes me believe that it's for restocking empty shelves with inventory they already have in the back warehouse and not to reorder. This in the near future will be followed by another robot that will do the restocking in few minutes later. They lose lots of revenue when shelves are empty.
6:09 for the good part
A good manager should know to order something before it's out of stock.
Not when you have tens of thousands of items, a computer does that when adding things to the shelf and scanning them out at the cash register. The problem is theft and the computer can think something is in stock (and not reorder it) while the shelf sits empty. That is what the machine is doing - verification.
So we are going to pay more to pay for the robot
The robot is saving costs by replacing more expensive workers. You are going to pay less once it is implemented fully. Don't expect any major changes anytime soon though, it's going to be a slow decrease

This is to reap the most benefits to companies, by paying people the least(nothing, except for the people designing it for the time being)
As well even in this Utopia. It could needlessly make humans obsolete.
People that believe in robot overlords or one good machine never stop to think "do we need to make human thought unnecessary" .
Tho I guess it's more like humans themselves
Figures. California and Walmart trying to replace humans for the all mighty dollar.. no ethics
Raul Torres not sure what you are saying?? Your point not clear
People....it’s just a pilot project at 50 stores in California. Just a small percentage of the thousands of Walmart stores worldwide
WRONG!
"By next February, it expects to have autonomous floor scrubbers in 1,860 of its more than 4,700 US stores. Walmart will also have robots that scan shelf inventory at 350 stores. And there will be bots at 1,700 stores that automatically scan boxes as they come off delivery trucks and sort them by department onto conveyer belts."

This guy is giving #bossanova way more credit than it deserves. Good story bro!
This is what I call Lazy
Someone would come through, mess it up, and destroy it.
If I saw that I'm honestly gonna kick it cuase it would have scared the crpa outta me not gonna lie
I love how he says "Wal-Mart says this isn't replacing human workers, just the tasks" realizes that's bullshit and tries to backpeddle....can't...and just changes the subject altogether
Well if it backed up because you were in the way and would throw it off.. what about the many Walmart shopper in the isle at the same time... how is it supposed to scan properly. Wouldn't it keep backing up and turning around constantly.. Never having the ability to scan the shelves properly?
typical walmart shopper takes up 75% of the isle
Gregory Everson... yes true and sometime 100% during holiday shopping.
