Great looking gate. You made it look pretty easy. Definitely speeds up the process when you have spacers to keep everything nice and even across. I employ the same method with my rail and gate builds as well!
Thanks! Yes, speeds it up quite a bit
@@AModernMaker how long did it take to build, this gate is sick af, do u do these with the flat top tho?
Nice gate. Gotta love a plasma cutter......
+Bill D Thank you. Oh heck yeah I do!
Jeez!
looks nice. good job. no way I'm gonna take a project like that on.
Man-hours?
Thank you! I’d guess around 30-40 hours. First build though and my shop isn’t set up to build gates efficiently. Haha.
always good to learn a good tips. thank you
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice work. Like
Thank you!
Cool😂
Nice
Thanks!
That is some quality work mate looking really nice. What kind of paint would you use. On my gate I used red oxide with a brush and hammerite metal paint with brush and was still getting abit of rust. Can you help me solve this problem. Thanks.
The home owner I built the gate for ended up painting it. The rust could be coming from not fully welded sections of the gate. Maybe adding some sealant so water can't get where there's no paint?
You should have drilled hole in the sheet metal behind where the square tubes are so u could hind the welds.
+StellaPiggie YT The issue with that is eventual rust forming at every single hole. Then water dripping down the inside of the tube.
the metal sheet seems to defeat the purpose of a gate. However, you did a good job on this.
Thank you geo dezix. The sheet metal is for privacy.
it's kinda like wearing a tuxedo and then putting on an overcoat.....
+geo dezix In a sense, yes.
I love it!! The sheet metal is awesome...
How did you do the curve on the top of the gate?
I bought it with the curve. The alternative is using a tubing roller which I didn’t have at the time.
What size of square tube is frame and to center square bar what size thickness of wood u using and where do u get curved square tube
1.5” and 1/2”. What wood? Most metal supply locations have a tubing roller to curve it for you.
Dope Gate ! What gauge did you use for the 4x4 post I’m making a similar one and need to know what gauge will be good
I believe it was 1/4” wall thickness. Good luck!
Noooooo all that good work for jbolt hinges? Come on.!
Eduardo Cruz right and for a heavy door, come on.!
Eduardo Cruz A couple of flaws, but using jbolt hinges is the first thing one notices, also it looks like the gate needed to be a few inches wider, big gap between the posts and the gates, but to money on labor looks good.
What’s a good hinge for that kind of application?
Can u make a video explaining?Nice work tho
It’s in the works, it’ll probably be a separate channel though.
Did you create a new channel???
Do you want a helper
Nice work. I know the video is old, but do you remember how many inches that arch was? Im building a 15' wide by 6'6'' gate & I don't know how much arch to put in it.
I have no idea. I had the client go with me to the metal supplier and decide which arch he liked best.
Great job....
Does any one know the job cost of labor rate and time frame for a job like that?
Parts, labor and supplies needed for an average price range?
Thanks and love the nice work.
Supplies were around $600, labor cost depends on location, timeframe is around 24-100 man hours depending on how efficient your setup is. He was quoted $3-4,000 for that same gate by local gate builders.
Thanks a bunch for the info....very helpful.
Awesome work! Keep uploading!
+Josh Denney Thank you!
Nicely done gates, they look awesome. By chance do you know the wall thickness of the main square tubing posts?
Thanks for posting this video, very informative.
Came out good. They make privacy metal mesh that is light weight and you can see out but no one can see in. It’ll take some weigh off
I suggested that but customer wanted solid steel.
Thank you btw.
HERMOSO TE HA QUEDADO ESE PORTÓN METALICO. UNO ASÍ COMO ESE QUIERO YO PARA MI COCHERA( GARAGE). DESDE CHILE....BIANCA ANTONELLA DI VANNI DI BIAGGIO.
Worth waiting for your next project !!!!!!! I admire each and every one that makes wonderfull projects out of wood and i have to admit i m a little jealous for those who know to make such amazing things with iron ! Congratulations very nice piece !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you +ΚΑΤΕΡΙΝΑ ΠΙΤΣΙΟΥ Very kind!
Ok, but why would you attach the solid plate, before painting the back of the pickets and gate. It works better to paint or powder coat gate itself and then screw the Sheetmetal to the back after you coat it separate.
Good good work: lucks easy is not thanks for share ;
Thanks!
Gorgeous gate turned out. Skillful fingers.
+Юра Thank you!
I love you project. can you help me were can i buy those sheet metal?
Nice work! I could use one of those for my driveway but i want spikes to roll out for the undesirables.
Haha. Great idea!
What about spring loaded 4 ft blades????
Good im gonna make it soon to make people subscribing me dont go to my house
very nice just look for different hintches so it wound have those holes not good.
Really good stuff!!
Thank you +Derek Conway !
you do good work in this video thanks for share.
Thank you MOUNTAIN EAGLE, much appreciated
Nice
Looks good but why not use a barrel binge with a grease zerk
+BIG HUNk Thanks. We wanted the adjustability of the J style hinge.
A Modern Maker that's bad ass either way bro props
Thanks BIG HUNk, I appreciate it.
I wondered if it sagged if any? That’s bad ass.
I agree, this is top notch. Details on how you made the arches?
+Troye Stonich I thought about building a tubing roller but found a metal supplier who will roll it for free. So I went that route haha. I may still build a tubing roller anyway for future projects. Thanks for watching!
@@AModernMaker where should i get the materials cheap? live in northern CALIFORNIA
@@infoinfo3594 how far north
Nice work man! Can you give me a rough idea of how much a 10ft gate this style go for with installation included?
Thanks!
I have no idea. I don’t build them for a living and never looked into having one built.
What was the cost on material thanks?
Hey if you look up the Rogue Fencer I can help you a little bit on figuring prices. Entryways are more preferred job. Prices will vary due to your area my area but can give you an idea of what to expect.
Nice gate what was the cost of material thanks
Impressive work! What was the weight of this beautiful, sturdy looking gate?
What is the name of the tool you used to cut the metal plate @3:06?
Thank you! The long end probably weighed a couple hundred pounds.
That’s a plasma cutter at 3:06
Can you put a list of the tools and materials if you can and how much everything is please
Tools are shown in the video and materials will vary depending on the gate design. Cost for this gate was around $600 in materials.
can you make me a gate like that?how much would it cost?16 ' long by 6' high.
No, I’m sorry. I’m not a gate builder.
Dude that's freaking nice
Thanks!
Excelente serviço.
Thank you!
where should i get the materials cheap? live in northern CALIFORNIA
Any location that sells bulk metal materials
You should look into using rotabroaches or even holcutters from Blair equipment for hand drilling into tube steel. Way better and faster than bits or hole saws.
+JWB671 Thanks I'll check them out
I ended up buying a set of rotabroaches from Blair. So much better! Thanks for the recommendation!
A Modern Maker... Ha... I commented on your current video about them without realizing I was the one who told you to use them!
Haha. Thanks again!
Saiu melhor do que encomenda!!!
Thanks!
hi can i work with you i also do this work
Can I come work for you? Ive got about 15 years of experience as a welder/fabricator. But I never get to weld fun stuff like this. Your video makes me want to start my own fab shop just so I can build cool stuff like you did with that gate.
+Edmund Squid Haha thank you! You definitely should!
Then you should. Lol. Lot of inexpensive welders out there now to get you going. It is addictive. Lol.
@@tomallen100 best thing I ever did.
I hate to be "that guy" but what is wrought iron?
+1500lego It's a special type of iron commonly used to make decorative gates and fences, etc. Its much more expensive than the mild steel I used.
Been in the gate business for decades, wrought iron is rarely used anymore, people associate scroll work and intricate metal patterns with wrought iron so they generalize everything into it being iron and it is not. Sadly even some of those making these items don't even know the difference and their clients either. Most gates and railings being made nowdays are from steel or aluminum. They can closely resemble wrought iron but definitely are not.
Thanks Tom Allen. That’s how I️ understood it as well.
Nice gate! well made.. keep the videos coming.
+Eamon Walsh Thanks!
never seen wrought iron made into square tube before
I just did a modern privacy with 1.5 square tubing.
What welder was used? I can see it is a L.E., but a 200 amp? 180?
+rmartuszewski It's the MP 210.
I like silent videos
Nice. Why do you put weights in it?
It’s been a while so I can’t remember exactly. Probably to keep it square or in position.
Great work! What size of tube did you use? 2×2×1/8?
Thank you! I believe it was 1.5” .120 walled square tube. Recommended by the steel yard specializing in gates.
Where did you get the scroll inserts?
I bought them at the local steel yard where the metal was purchased.
What type of cutting torch is that?
A plasma cutter. Hypertherm Powermax 45
Super!!!👍👍👍
Thank you Roman!
Excellent work buddy I hope one day I can do that
I hope so too 👍
What gauge metal for the frame?
11 gauge
@@AModernMaker Shoot, I just ordered 14 gauge...
Are tacks sufficient?
Enough of them are depending on where they are.
Was the a 35 dg cut?
No idea.
What size posts did you use?
+DF5152 4x4 or 5x5. Can't remember.
awesome work! what would your price be on a gate like that?
Thank you! Probably $4k or so. It’s not something I do often though. The guy I built it for was quoted $4-6k.
@@AModernMaker damn just for the gate? or the door too??
nice work! what thicknes is the plate are you using?
+N Franco Thank you! Which plate are you talking about?
the back plate of the gate
+N Franco I think it was 18 or 20 gauge
sheet steel has a thickness up to 0.25 inches (3 mm) above this it becomes plate
Nice work!
Thanks!
i love this work
Thank you!
good job....
Thank you Henry Sanchez
Awesome 👏🏼
Thanks! 👍
excelente!! saludos !!
+Pablo Fernandez Thank you!
gr8 stuff unlike the shit i got installed ...
+realf1rme Ah the sucks
How did you bend the square channel at the top? Did you use a bender? Did you do it yourself? I thought it was almost impossible to bend square metal tubing without the sides bucking out.
The company I bought it from bent it. They used a tubing roller. I plan on making a build video of one soon.
I ended up making a tubing roller as promised. Here’s the link:
