People think he is called Slow Hand because of his effortless guitar style. In fact, it's because in his early days, he spent so much time on stage changing guitar strings that the audience would get impatient and start a slow clap to hurry him up.
Graffitti around most walls in London around 1968, over 50 years ago..........ERIC CLAPTON =GOD........................bot, literally, but along with Hendrix/Gallagher of the guitar.... 1
He sadly succumbed to alcohol and drugs bigtime for a looong time but somehow got through it. The music made me just well up and cry at 10 min 30, thanks Mr V., he's a British national treasure!
Bro, ya he is a cool dude, after he got off of Heroin, and coke, he found out that Stevie Ray Vaughan was i n hospital in England, he went to visit him and offer him help, they had never met before, SRV got clean, due to Eric's help. they became friends, the Night that SRV died in the helicopter crash At Alpine Valley, , Eric was supposed to be on that helicopter, but he gave up his seat to SRV because he told eric, I need to get back to Chicago and do some business, Eric did that, otherwise Eric would have been killed that night, it is you never know Man, this is a true story , check it out, r.i.p. to all, and the Music will be heard forever, Cousin Figel
The, Clapton giving his seat up for SRV and the they had never met, portions of your story are not true. The only truth to any of this story is that Stevie died in a helicopter crash and that Clapton beat dope and visited Stevie in rehab(they’d known each other for years prior) and provided motivational support. I don’t know if Clapton is cool? I don’t make assumptions. Sounds like you were told the Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Big Bopper story. The SRV story is that Stevie, Jimmie & Connie Vaughn were told that 3 seats had been reserved for them on one of the four helicopters being used that day. When the Vaughn’s got to “their” helicopter, Claptons agent, body guard and asst. tour manager were inside buckled up, with only one seat vacant. Jimmie & Connie are still with us today. How the story ended is self explanatory, tragic and now history. During the deposition of the wrongful death lawsuit the Vaughn’s won years later, we were told that Stevie had offered Robert Cray the fourth seat. Whether the Cray story is true or not, I don’t know. I do know it’s irrelevant and it’s what we were told.
Eric Clapton was at the Crossroads of Rock and Roll. He played on a Beatles track, then married George Harrison's wife. Great guitarist who had an Allman play on this, probably his most famous song. Probably helped a lot of people discover Bob Marley via his version of "I Shot the Sheriff". Never wanted to be a front man, just loves the music. Major problems with drugs, and has said some very controversial things. A good example of how people are complicated and capable of amazing, and sometimes awful or sad, things.
I wish I could go back in time and tell her “Girl, don’t do it. The grass ain’t greener on the other side. It’s gonna get real dark after the romance of the song wears off.” Still love me some EC tho. Smartest man in music.
The guy who played the "Layla riff." through most of the song is Andy Fairweather Low. He fronted a band called Amen Corner in the 60s, and is a great guitarist .
My mom took me to see him a few times, every concert before this song the place goes dark, EC lights a joint and puffs a few times sticks it in his guitar strings and than they play Layla. This song was originally Derrick and the dominos song( Clapton band). On a side note smoked my first joint at an EC concert😁
My top 5 guitarist list has at least a few dozen players in it these days, there's just too much goodness. The original studio version of Layla features another young guitar legend that didn't make it to 25. Duane Allman was an incredible slide guitarist for the Allman Brothers, whom I'm betting you'll get to at some point. It's awesome getting to see someone learn about the greats!
He's my favorite guitar player & the very best. His nickname is 'Slowhand '. He's a very humble, soft-spoken man. He wrote this song for Patti Boyd, Geo.Harrison's wife, who he was madly in love with. He wrote 'Tears in Heaven' for his 4 yr.old son Connor, who was killed in a fall from a highrise. He makes that guitar sing ! You might like Jeff Beck, another virtuoso on guitar, may he R.I.P.
Music unites... it's everything, it has no colour, it makes you sad, it makes you happy, it makes you sing, it makes you dance, it makes you think, it's bringing back memories, makes you think about life, makes you fall in love... Hearing this song is a mix of feelings, very powerful! Can't imaging life without music!
read the wikipedia article on this song - lots of trivia - who layla was, who it was written for, who was credited as writing the second half of the song, and who really wrote it. --- also, the original studio version had TWO top 5 ever guitarists playing on it. also, check out the "unplugged" version of this song. complete redo.
Eric is a cool dude. This is my favourite Clapton. Other good ones are: Lay Down Sally After Midnight Wonderful Tonight Cocaine There are lots more! Clapton was good in Cream, too. White Room Sunshine of Your Love Spoonful
Pale imitation of the original when he was a young man. The band who created (Derek and the Dominos) this song had another virtuoso guitar player, Duane Allman who died in a motorcycle accident shortly after. 24 years old.
Clapton aka GOD to many guitar players including myself. :) Check out the original Layla with a band he was in called Derek and the dominoes. Duane Allman is his guitar dueling pal on there. That one gives me goosebumps. Especially when we lost the young talented Duane Allman soon after that was released in a fatal motorbike accident.
This song took Clapton to the next level of greatness and solidified the fact that his guitar playing was among the greatest. I tear up everytime i witness greatness too.
E.C. is a jammin artist to say the least, he's got pile of hits in his career, very distinct sound&style, now about LoverBoy's Lovin'every minute of it, 😀 when you gonna get to it?
The Blues took a strong hold in the U.K. post WWII because many could relate to the genre due to the devastation & poverty of the war. It resonated with them, they could relate, & it was a genuine medium for them to express their reality, their experiences.
Clapton is god and he always has the best band backing him up.....more clapton songs to listen to... Change the world, lay down sally, cocaine, after midnight, nobody knows you...and def his version of somewhere over the rainbow
You should check out "Something" by The Beatles, written by George Harrison about the same woman. Frank Sinatra called it the best love song of the 20th century
15 or 20 years ago Rolling Stone magazine came out with an article that ranked Clapton as the greatest guitar player of all-time, and not Jimi Hendrix, which is what most people thought! We all knew Clapton was top 3, that's undeniable!
Gotta hear the original version with Duane Allman... also find the video of a 13 year old Derek Trucks slaying the outro of this song, 4th of July 1993.
Undergroundwalker Isback it just doesn’t sound the same like on the radio..... I like the live version.... but I think sometimes you should hear it the way they played it back in the day... and the remastered ones take out certain instruments.... add more of something else.... 🙏

There is a valid reason he has been called "SLOW HAND" for many decades my friend.
People think he is called Slow Hand because of his effortless guitar style. In fact, it's because in his early days, he spent so much time on stage changing guitar strings that the audience would get impatient and start a slow clap to hurry him up.
You can feel the passion he had for Patti, it lives through the decades!
Mr. Slowhand himself 🎸🔥🎸
Graffitti around most walls in London around 1968, over 50 years ago..........ERIC CLAPTON =GOD........................bot, literally, but along with Hendrix/Gallagher of the guitar....

Eric "Slow Hand" Clapton has been inducted into the Rock N' Roll hall of Fame three times! He is Awesome!
Hells yeah, I requested this lol I KNEW you would dig this lol
I highly recommend Bon Jovi - "You Give Love a Bad Name"
Yes!!! And “wanted dead or alive!”
THIS STORY still gives me chills,
Eric Clapton was at the Crossroads of Rock and Roll.
Here come the comments about George Harrison, and Patti Boyd.
You called that one...lol
That's like someone telling you they are making spaghetti and you saying here comes the spaghetti sauce...very insightful, I guess?
@@andrew348 Lol.
I wish I could go back in time and tell her “Girl, don’t do it. The grass ain’t greener on the other side. It’s gonna get real dark after the romance of the song wears off.” Still love me some EC tho. Smartest man in music.
news flash: Not Everyone knows who this song is about and the backstory.
Not just Eric Clapton, but the whole band... such a full and well-balanced sound!
The guy who played the "Layla riff." through most of the song is Andy Fairweather Low. He fronted a band called Amen Corner in the 60s, and is a great guitarist .
" Amen Corner" is in Tooting, S W London.
I am from that era but S E London....
Amazing the way that the two Stratocaster in perfect time switch the melody back and forth....
My mom took me to see him a few times, every concert before this song the place goes dark, EC lights a joint and puffs a few times sticks it in his guitar strings and than they play Layla. This song was originally Derrick and the dominos song( Clapton band). On a side note smoked my first joint at an EC concert😁
Sounds like you had a pretty cool mom with great taste in music!
Inspired to listen to Eric’s entire catalog! You must! If you love music, you gotta know Eric Clapton! 💚✌️
He wrote this song for Patti Boyd,
Geo.Harrison's wife, who he was madly in love with. He wrote 'Tears in
Heaven' for his 4 yr.old son Connor, who was killed in a fall from a highrise.
He makes that guitar sing ! You might like Jeff Beck, another virtuoso on
guitar, may he R.I.P.
EC🎸❤️
He had Duane Allman play beautiful slide guitar on the original.. ✌️❤️🎼
Duane Allman
Both versions are amazing but I had only heard of the acoustic version before this this one recently and I'm almost 40 lol
@@Blackmjc I'm 60. this was on the radio when I was a teenager.
Love this song. My favorite is the end with the music just riding out... still gives me goosebumps.
Eric is a cool dude. This is my favourite Clapton. Other good ones are:
Lay Down Sally
After Midnight
Wonderful Tonight
Cocaine
There are lots more! Clapton was good in Cream, too.
White Room
Sunshine of Your Love
Spoonful
BELL BOTTOM BLUES IS almost AS GOOD...JUST BEAUTIFUL...
Yes, yes, yes....you want to tear up! It's that good!
And yes,... it truly is beautiful. You just don't want it to end.
The original guitarist who played that with Eric Clapton was the great Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers Band.
This song took Clapton to the next level of greatness and solidified the fact that his guitar playing was among the greatest. I tear up everytime i witness greatness too.
hes the only person to be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame 3 times. twice as part of a group and once as a solo artist!! LEGEND!!
-Eric Johnson Cliffs of dover live. This is what you need to see!!! 🎸 #1 for me
Ps: love Eric clapton
E.C. is a jammin artist to say the least, he's got pile of hits in his career, very distinct sound&style, now about LoverBoy's Lovin'every minute of it, 😀 when you gonna get to it?
He'll love every minute of it!
@@johngammon7891 I think so, if I can bug him long enough to review it and I will 😀😀😀I'm relentless 😉👏🙌
The Blues took a strong hold in the U.K. post WWII because many could relate to the genre due to the devastation & poverty of the war. It resonated with them, they could relate, & it was a genuine medium for them to express their reality, their experiences.
His nickname is "slowhand" because he is so cool and calm when he`s playing his guitar. "Slowhand Clapton"
The Legendary Mr "Slow Hand" Eric Clapton, A Blues Man from his ❤.
You need to do his song he wrote for his son.
Tears in heaven
He already did.

My mom introduced me to Clapton when I was in grade school. I fell in love! Love your reactions! Try some Cheap Trick! Huge fan of you!
Cat Stevens bro. CAT STEVENS BRO!
Clapton is one of the best guitarists in the world. He's amazing.
Got to hear CREAM " Sunshine Of Your Love" !!!
Prince play “My guitar gently weeps” at Rock n Roll hall of fame .. LEGENDARY!!
He is an amazing singer and guitar player..... now you gotta do the song Cocaine by him....not the live version... please and thank you 🙏
Great shout 👌
Idk man I like the 1978 civic auditorium
Undergroundwalker Isback it just doesn’t sound the same like on the radio..... I like the live version.... but I think sometimes you should hear it the way they played it back in the day... and the remastered ones take out certain instruments.... add more of something else.... 🙏
Tim Billings ok I give up
That's the worst song I've ever heard!!! Just completely stupid 😑. Anytime I was in a bar and the band started singing this creepy song id just walk out, actually I would literally run for the door!!
Slowhand will always be my ult OG #1! ❤️ he always have the cleanest riffs and solos uggggh ❤️
