Dan and Mazzy thank you for the trip down memory lane, from my black doll and silver Cross pram,to the mirror above my parents fireplace. Lol that was a man's string vest and pants. Fish and chips were wrapped in newspaper, you ended up with ink of the print on your hands 😅. Life was simple, but it was HOME SWEET HOME. Xx Safe journey home , enjoy your well earned chill out time.

I remember putting two shillings in the tv it was the only way we could afford a tv, you got three hours viewing, we used to work out what we wanted to watch and if there were adverts which lasted three minutes so we switched the tv off and back on after the three minutes. When the man from the company came to empty the meter they took the payment for the tv and we got back any extra. Changed days.

I love Beamish, haven't been since they added the 50's section on. I was born in 1950 and remember all the cookers, tv's, fridges etc. Doesn't seem that long ago. Things were built to last then and even now i can't bear to part with a couple of kitchen items that belonged to my parents. Great vlog, happy memories and glad you found it fascinating too. I remember going round to my old aunt Morna as a young teenager and she had all the really old kitchen appliances like the old enamel cooker with grill tray above and a wangle washing machine with big rollers to wring out the water from clothes. She was born in 1901 so she saw both world wars and served in WW2 as a wren.

The cinema used to show 2 films. The main one and another support film. You could go in anytime and sit and watch as long as you wanted. It appeared to just continue rolling so if you timed it wrong you would see the end of the film first. There was also Saturday morning pictures for kids. 6d for about 3 hours. Kept us out of our parents way for the morning and we took ourselves and back home again. We knew not to talk to strangers or take sweets from people and to use the zebra crossing to cross the road. Lol

Hi Dan & Mazzy Loved your Trip round Scotland and iv been watching all your Ireland trip again but i miss the one when you was in Co' Louth first time round, I was so looking forward to it, I though you would have gone in to Drogheda to see, The severed head of a 17th-century Irish martyr lies within an intricate golden shrine. it's the head of St. Oliver Plunkett's, its in St Peter's Rome Catholic Church the church is Beautiful also St Laurence Gate and beautiful Magdalene Tower, Then Millmount Fort This castle was used to defend the town during Cromwell’s, Muiredach’s High Cross Standing at 5 metres tall, the High Cross is the work of a master stonemason and Monasterboice round tower was used as a watchtower and refuge by monks during times of Viking attack Battle Of The Boyne.William of Orange was the son-in-law of King James II. As a protestant young man he married Mary (the daughter of King James II) and therefore secured his place as the successor to the throne. After receiving pressure from England's politicians, William built up an army and invaded England in November of 1688. The Battle of the Boyne in 1690 was one of the most significant events in Irish history, part of a wider struggle for power across 17th century Europe.
The Battle of the Boyne was fought between King William III and his father-in-law King James II on 1 July 1690 (12 July according to our modern calendar). The kings were rival claimants to the English, Scottish and Irish thrones. Protestant King William (who was also the Dutch Prince of Orange) had deposed Catholic King James in 1688. James went to Ireland where he rallied his mostly Catholic army (know as 'Jacobites' after James' name in Latin, Jacobus), making a stand on the southern banks of the Boyne outside Drogheda.you would have loved Newgrange it's one of the most prominent passage tombs in the world and there's free a bus from the Visitor Centre to the tomb and back, all my Mother's family come from Drogheda,me and my husband are go back to Ireland next year to do the wild atlantic way we have watching you and Mazzy for 4 years now we the old one at 70 & 68 been married for 50 years this year,, this one is for Mazzy Love your Irish jokes can we have some more please, appreciate the time and effort and hard work you have put all your blog sharan and graham x

Ferguson telly rented from Rumbelows😄 I remember going in with my parents in the '70's to pay the rental & we were the first ones in our little area to get a colour tv😄 I don't remember the cookers looking like that either, so must have been before my time. I did have a Silvercross pram like the ones there & I got my sisters roller skates, that looked like the ones Mazzy pointed out. I think everyone had one of those kitchen cabinets with the drop down working area too. I know ours was put into the cellar to house my dads tools. My mum told me there was a doll doctor in Manchester & Liverpool. When we went to visit their friends, their daughter, who was about 10 yrs older than me, had a black male doll & she used to pull his pants down to show me😱🤣🤣 It had been her mothers doll before hers. I was only little & sworn to secrecy so I wouldn't tell my parents🤣🤣 I'm like you two & remember bits of things, but don't recognise others as I must be too young😄
What a great place to visit. Its a shame you felt rushed, but thank you so much for showing us. Hopefully you can go again & do it at your own leisure & get to see more.

That was amazing I would love to go there so many memories. My grandad was a miner the reason the sink was separate was because they would come home from the mines black from crawling around in the pit they could wash before going into the house. My grandad sink was in a small outhouse in the back yard. My mum's younger brother died in the mine at 18 it collapsed on him and others and they couldn't get them out in time. Did you no they used to take little bird cages with a canary in it in case they struck gas. If the bird died they new they had to get out quick. As kids we used to play on the coal banks chasing newts it was a brilliant childhood kids today have it hard. I had a black doll and a white one and a big silver cross twin pram. We had a rented furguson t.v. And you had to put 20ps in the lecky metre. There is so much in that video I can remember it brought wonderfully memories and a teer to my eyes lol. Thank you xxxx

What an absolute treat to see Beamish and how it has expanded since I last went there. These type of museums really are the best, so much to see and explore and, as you said in the video, it really does feel like your actually there - timing traveling!
Here's the weird thing for me though. All the 1950s stuff reminds me of my dads house and shop from my youth, used to stay with him every weekend. We had so much of the stuff shown on the video and the same kind of lifestyle. But here's the punchline - I was born in the 80s and these memories took place in the mid 90s! He just never bothered to keep up with the times, and looking back on it, it probably wasn't a bad thing.

If you're 29, I'm 39; shhh yourself, lol. Celery is yummy. The 50's were still a wonderful time, it's after WWII and before all of the drugs took over in the late 60's. Really nice video, great town. Thank you.

We also had golliwog dolls which aren’t allowed now, we used to collect golliwog badges that came with jars of jam, the advert had a wee song, Look for the golly the golly on the Jar.
