    I've had my PRS Silver Sky for about a month or so and have done several shows with " her ". One tonight as well. The point is I have become addicted to the instrument and I am a professional musician songwriter band leader who has owned many " American " F's and G's along the way and many many Indonesian or Chinese instruments which have all been very good. I did a lot of research before I bought my SE Silver Sky but when I thought I was ready I went to my favorite retailer and locked myself in a practice room for an hour and forty-five minutes. Half that time I was not even plugged in. I fell in love that day and I can't stop the urge to play, practice on this terrific guitar. I have only one critique - changing strings is a bit of an issue as the string-through the body design needs a little fine honing in the string tubes as it gets a little hung up trying to get the dead string out of the hole. Wonderful instrument in every other way!

    Paul Reed Smiths are *ultra* stable, man…I’ve had a core custom 24 as my “number one” for over 20 years and I’ve set it up five MAYBE ten times, tops. PRS does a lot of stuff right but their stability (both tuning and holding a set up) is absolutely top notch. My CE24…same thing…it just never seems to need a set up.

    I never liked PRS until John Mayer had the Silver Sky's, I love my Player series Fender for different artists, but on average I prefer the silver sky for tuning stability, rosewood and those bird inlays, I love that Mayer went with exotic colours, I'm usually a purist for vintage colours but I loved the ever green finish, the only complaint for me is wishing they were alder and not poplar. I really fancy the Mayer pick up's

    Have one incoming from Zzounds. Figured with the recent discount it was time. Have never been able to bond with a strat, but played a few of these and the felt amazing. This will be my 4th SE, and the only other PRS i regret letting go was my SE Soapbar. Hope i love this as much as my Gibsons.

    It is! The rosewood fretboard is amazing as well as the satin neck. The piano black color is super elegant as well. I didn’t wanna get one at first cuz im a legacy company fanboy (i only buy gibson or fender cause their the main companies used in rock history) but my brother convinced me. Im glad I also listened to my mom. She was the one that told me to get the silver sky se in piano black and let me tell you, once it arrived and i opened it. I felt a connection to it. Almost mystical. You’ll know what i mean if its happened to you. It was great out of the box. But the way it played and felt was amazing. I have fender strats and les pauls in my collection and this is my favorite guitar. Its the only guitar in my collection that brings out the best in me. My improv, chord progressions, etc. are on a whole nother level once my fingers touch my SE. it’s weird and i hope u guys know what i mean

    I wasn't a hater but I always had a hard time bonding with PRS in the past. Took a chance on a DGT SE and couldn't be happier. So versatile and easy to play. Makes me wonder why anyone would buy the US version. So that guitar has led me into checking out the Silver Sky SE although I'm not sure I need it being the DGT SE can get some of those in-between sounds. Thanks for your vid!

    I bought Silver sky SE in December 2023 and at least on my guitar the action was over 2 mm. the frets had to be sanded before the action could be set right, and since I live in Finland, the first winter and summer are a tough challenge for the instruments due to the changing weather, dry in winter and humid in spring, summer and autumn
    (the temperature varies from -30 degrees to +36 degrees) . The frets lived in first year and they had to be sanded once more. But a really good sounding guitar and comfortable to play even though the radius is 8.5 My Silver sky se is first generation model with laurel fretboard.

    I have two core Silver Sky's and haven't really had any issue with them either. I wish I had waited to buy my maple fretboard one because now they offer the SE version with maple. I have always said that one of the best things that PRS could do to make their SE's better, is just offer them with locking tuners off the bat. At this point, the cost wolud be minimal and they make string changes so much easier. Great vid.

    I've posted this is multiple places. I've had my dragonfruit for over a year and a half. Out of the box, there we some QA issues. A wire was looped over the contact in the leadcord jack, so you couldn't insert the cord. It took me a few minutes to fix it. No big deal. BUt it obviously had not been checked at the factory. More recently. (3 weeks ago), the winding on the neck pick up came apart. It's not soldered. It's crimped into the "cardboard" base material. The crimp let go. I squeezed it all back together and everything works again. I do enjoy the guitar. I play it often. But it definitely isn't top shelf quality. (as the price would indicate)

    • @shawnmcginnis2508
      @shawnmcginnis2508 6 месяцев назад

      Idk how old you are, but I think a sad truth I've had to remind myself of is $1000.00 is no longer "topshelf" price. It's still a lot of money, at least for me, but these days top shelf guitars are really 2-5k. 950-1500 is like upper mid level these days. Now you can get a really nice guitar for 650-1000 which is great, but looking at Gibson or Fender for their top shelf guitars your well over the price of these.
      Now for PRS specifically I do feel like the specs have improved since switching to Indonesia, but the QC seems a bit more hit and miss. I personally think you can get a really good life long guitar out of the SE range , but I also think one should go to a store, look several over, and pick the best one because sadly they aren't all created equal even if they should be.

    Good to see 8.5 radius instead of flat necks. Just wish they could make guitars without the volume to high its write in the way. I have to change scratch plate and move the volume down other than that nice guitars

    About tuners on the SE - I have wondered if mini Gotohs with "keystone" buttons will retrofit without ANY reaming/redrilling, and are the button shaft length long enough. Anyone know? I hesitate to make ANY alteration to new guitars. I thought the stock tuners looked "suspect" but I haven't actually had any problem. Of course, changing to sealed tuning machines will leave holes from the originals. I hesitate to make ANY changes to something that seems to be problem free. Cosmetics is a stupid reason a mod a guitar in my opinion. As a former luthier/repairman, I came to the philosophy loooong ago. If if isn't broken, don't mess with it. And never try to change a guitar designed to be one thing, into something it wasn't. Either build from scratch or buy the model you're trying to replicate. My other thing - I'd never spend more on an instrument than it will pay for itself gigging for a month. My other main guitar is a Martin 000-10e. The neck radius and nut width are similar enough that I can change from one to the other without a radical "adjustment" in left-hand feel. I think this may finally be the last S-style guitar I buy, and I have had over a dozen Fender and Squire Stratocasters!

    I got the stone blue se, really like it, a lot of people are throwing off on them. Iv had a lot of diffrent guitars through the years. I will say the quality on the se silver sky is impressive. A lot of guitar for the money, especialy like the tone in the variouse 5 way switch positions. I dont like the size ten strings, and i want to put some locking tuners on it like you said. But over all very impressive.

    I don't understand all the hype around the Silver Sky. Isn't it just a Stratocaster, but with a different head stock? If it were not for its association with John Mayer it don't think it would have garnered as much attention as it has. People seem to have very high opinions of this guitar. I haven't seen even one negative review of it. How does it differ from a Stratocaster, beside the head stock being a different shape, and the branding?

    • @dmanguitar
      @dmanguitar  9 месяцев назад

      These guitars are obviously very similar but the Silver Sky's have a character of their own. The differences are mostly in the details I suppose. (Neck carve, pickups, controls, etc...)I love the neck carve. It's the pickups that do it for me. For what it's worth, I haven't played a ton of Strats, but this is the first S style guitar I've played that I have truly liked the pickups. To me, they sound how I would want a Strat to sound in every position. They are vintage voiced pickups. Output on all 3 of mine is just over 7k. I like that there is a tone control for the bridge pickup and one for the middle/neck. I think traditionally, Fender's have a tone for the neck pup and a tone for middle. Although, I'd imagine they probably have offerings by now with similar wiring to the PRS. That helps make the bridge pickup usable for a wider variety of tones other than ice pick treble.😆
      Mayer's name attached to it probably helps, but, one could also argue that PRS wouldn't have even made a "strat" unless John Mayer wanted it. Of course, the best thing to do is get one in your hands and see for yourself. PRS has made a very solid version of a classic guitar design. If you like Fender, there's nothing wrong with continuing to play Fender. Likewise, there's nothing wrong with liking the Silver Sky. To each his own. (or her!) 😎🤘Rock on!
