I'm legitimately shocked at the general lack of people suggesting that the C doesn't stand for anything lol. Past consoles have had C buttons, and it didn't stand for anything then; why would it now?
I think because of the position. If it were "just another button" for games to use then this would be a very inconvenient place to put it. So the theory is this must be something unique
It just doesn't make sense when you consider the fact that the system will be shipped internationally. Would the letter on the button change to match the language for whatever region it's being sent to? If not, then the C won't mean anything to a lot of people lol
@@NattyWheat the mystery and assumption is that the C on the button IS the special symbol. Also, it's just a fun thing to theorize, "what does the new C button do, there MUST be a reason!?"
It obviously stands for Carl. The name of Nintendo's new AI assistant. He runs through the parts of games you have trouble with, like when you can summon Luigi to play Mario levels after you die too many times.
Hm. I remember reading that an issue with the Wii U was that the method for switching between dual screen and handheld was wildly inconsistent across games. Some put the option in a menu; others used the minus button. If the Switch can wirelessly dual screen via the dock, this might be Nintendo attempting to head off that issue by giving it a dedicated button.
I think the “connect” one makes the most sense. Having your switch screen in your hand while letting it be on the tv screen allows for more Wii U and DS games to properly get ported since you can pull of the whole “dual screen” thing
This could possibly lead to DS, 3DS, and Wii U games through NSO. I freely admit that this just piles on my hopes for GC games on NSO with the new console.
Oh my God, I just legitimately laughed like Mark Hamil's version of the Joker crossed with a Hisuian Zoroark. I know what this is a reference to as an American myself. MEET LOCAL SINGLE TARGETS STRAIGHT FROM [my] . NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO GET [[shot]]. 🤣
@ at your discretion or maybe some combination? Like you get butch Greaseball (Girlball if you will) and Hydra but you also get CB and songs like “call me Rusty”. The funniest answer may be the Bochum production so it’s all in German regardless of if you speak it - but I do like considering the merits of the broadway run and London revival next to each other. I love them both so dearly-
my personal theory is that it is a new sort of local system connection, where you and a friend can press c and connect your switches for certain game functionality (pokemon trades/battle, local multiplayer, etc) in places without available or strong wifi
Oh hey, now this is an actually interesting original idea, making LAN parties less of a hassle certainly sounds like something nintendo would want to do
This is the most sensible theory I’ve heard thus far in terms of a reasonable function, however I’m not sure it makes a lot of sense to have a dedicated button for this on the controller as opposed to just using in-game menus.
I like that, that makes the most sense. That would also explain the lettering, because c would stand for both calibration and centering. The ability to instantly calibrate a gyroscopic controller by pointing it at the center of the screen and hitting a button would be important if they planned to bring Wii games to the Switch 2.
my problem with that is it just doesn’t need to be a button. for VC DS/3DS games, surely it’d make more sense to start casting when you open the respective app? same for potential new games that use dual screen functionality. a new button on a controller is a HUGE deal, with how standardised they’ve become. it would mean a whole new chance for misinput to happen too, so it would have to be tested v e r y thoroughly. i really hope it’s not a cast button, that seems redundant and doesn’t feel right
C is kind of a rotated U, which would fit with the idea of the switch having the same functionality as a Wii U gamepad. The idea of ‘you previously could play handheld or docked, now you can play handheld AND docked!” being the sort of gimmick that they’d just love. I’d honestly guess that it’s gonna be called the switch-connect or something if Kinect isn’t/wasn’t already a name of a thing. I mean I could totally imagine a 1-2 Switch type tech demo showing the “hey look guys you can play that marble maze minigame on your handheld screen AND the big screen” where it still displays the maze on both screens but lets you have the fee of moving the maze with your hands while still paying attention to the TV if you want
My idea is that it’s a recording or “Capture” button that lets you record gameplay. You press it once to start a recording, and again to end it. This would replace the method of holding down the screenshot button to record, since it would let you have more control over how long your clips are
A while back, there was a RUclips survey that included the name “Switch Attach”. I wonder if that was a mistranslation from the original Japanese, and the real name was meant to be “Switch Connect”. So the “C” button really could stand for “Connect”, and Connecting the Switch to not only the dock, but to other devices, could well be the core functionality of the device.
Or "cast" so you don't have to dock the switch to play it on a TV screen. That could be why they also have the top charging port so you can hold it in your hands and charge it but also play on a big screen.
When I saw “c button” I immediately thought it was just going to be an extra button option for games. There’s been a “c stick” on Nintendo controllers before and to my knowledge that c didn’t stand for anything and the x, y, a, and b don’t stand for anything.
Accept, Back most games use Y & X to attack or to use a more specific move. So the X doesn't have a word tied to it but could be a symbol for "Fire" (the X represents having it a target) i can't think of anything that makes sense for Y (maybe because Y fits with X because you see those 2 symbols together all the time in math)
I was thinking that, but the C stick on the Gamecube was generally for controlling the camera position, so it probably stood for "camera." But with two analog stick on the switch, now, that's not necessary, so it's probably not that this time.
If it was a button meant for gameplay it would be near the top right with the ABYX buttons. It's at the very bottom and is impossible to push without lifting your fingers away from the ABYX buttons and pressing it.
I just realized something this would explain why they have 2 usb port. Cause playing on cast mode would drain the battery fast. So having a usb c port at the front would be very convenient like the Wii U gamepad
I think the "C" button is probably just a customizable button. Nintendo let us change buttons around in the later lifespan of the switch, and it’s probably not "C" for customizable; it’s probably just follows "A" and "B" and they’ve had the C Stick before.
C probably stands for "controls" and opens up the menu for connecting controllers to the system. It is one of the most cumbersome parts of the current Switch.
@@NmMindstorm So then at least be original than copying the comment telling you off lol. So you spam and you're a robot, guess that's great in your -CPU- er, mind! 🤷♂️😂
I don’t understand why everyone thinks C stands for a word. On Nintendo controllers, letters are for game control buttons, while symbols are for non-game control buttons, like the home button or the screenshot button. So the fact that this button has a C on it tells me that it is a new option for games to use as a control in game.
My theory is that you hold the C button with your right thumb and that turns the left joystick into the old GameCube C joystick while held. It opens up the possibility to control two completely different functions with the left joystick.
I don't think that checks out, considering the positioning of the button it's very out of the way. more out of the way than the home button, which is not a button you have to press very often. It's basic ergonomics, the more frequently you have to press a button, the closer you put it to where your hand naturally rests. it has to be some sort of system button. or, if it isn't, it's at least a button you don't have to press very often.
C stands for “you’re Cool,” and Mario will jump out of the Switch to pat you on the back and tell you you’re cool. It only works one time per system, so you have to make sure to use it properly
Seriously though, I would say that C might just be a placeholder for a different button, since these are preproduction images. The button C might interact with the IR sensor somehow, like a center button to recenter the pointer on screen
C is for "connect" which the new system will be called. And you use magnetic features on the new system that will allow for dual screen playing like the 3ds. That is why we don't have 3ds games in the online library yet.
It's actually a pictogram of a boomerang and activates "frustration mode", so when you keep dying on that one level and throw your Switch 2 across the room, it floats back to you safely.
I REALLY hope its the cast/connect idea, cause now you've put that theory in my head and I've thought about it, it just sounds SO cool and I want it to be a feature.
Something that come up to my mind. What if the C button is for Change. A button to toggle the other buttons functionality. So we will have even more buttons when needed, so rather than just A, B, X, Y buttons we will also have CA, CB, CX, CY buttons. Of course the games have to handle it properly as you don't want to have to toggle too much, it needs to be something that you switch between modes.
I think the biggest problem with the Wii U was that the console was on the TV and it wasn't on the gamepad. It was way too limiting. While you could play some games just on the gamepad, the limited range made it not really worth while. Some double screen games work insanely well. If Nintendo does a reverse Wii U and lets you cast to the TV with optional 2 screen modes in some games, I think it would alleviate the biggest complaints of the Wii U. No big, bulky gamepad, you still get the 2 screen setup, and you get unlimited range.
9:45 I could see people wanting to cast/connect if we get back some WiiU funcionalities like the double screen. That would make porting DS, 3DS and WiiU much easier!
Are we sure it's a button? Remember the New 3DS XL had a tiny nub that was a second joystick. And that nub shared a name with the right stick on the Gamecube controller, the C-stick.
its all coming together. the codename for switch 2? OZ. the shortening for ounces. there are 16 ounces in a pound, and 8 fluid ounces in a cup. the nintendo switch 2 is going to be pushing more social interaction as its gimmick. 8 person local multiplayer, 16 person online multiplayer, and the C buttons stands for community or connect to some service which makes this whole ordeal easier, so that switches can connect to each other like how the DS did with download play (although id be surprised if download play came back)
It's the "Call Luigi" button. If you press it, he appears and beats part of the game for you.

I think because of the position. If it were "just another button" for games to use then this would be a very inconvenient place to put it. So the theory is this must be something unique
@momzwrite Right, but if it had a singular dedicated function, why wouldn't they just use a symbol like they always do in those situations?
It just doesn't make sense when you consider the fact that the system will be shipped internationally. Would the letter on the button change to match the language for whatever region it's being sent to? If not, then the C won't mean anything to a lot of people lol
gen z didn't grow up with n64/gamecube so a C button is a big mystery to them
@@NattyWheat the mystery and assumption is that the C on the button IS the special symbol.

I would be so disappointed in nintendo.

"Captain Toad" you push the button, and it automatically closes out of your current game and opens Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker!
I think the “connect” one makes the most sense. Having your switch screen in your hand while letting it be on the tv screen allows for more Wii U and DS games to properly get ported since you can pull of the whole “dual screen” thing

Maybe it stands for Costco and it orders whatever you want specifically from Costco
I’d like premium seeds from Costco then
You can order pizza from Costco
Double chunk chocolate cookie
So the button is exclusive to consoles sold in countries that have Costco only

That dual screen capability is the most likely imo. That's such a great idea for backwards compatibility and opportunity for dual screen gaming.

I love them both so dearly-
It will also boot up Choo Choo Charles, if you have it on your switch
my personal theory is that it is a new sort of local system connection, where you and a friend can press c and connect your switches for certain game functionality (pokemon trades/battle, local multiplayer, etc) in places without available or strong wifi
Oh hey, now this is an actually interesting original idea, making LAN parties less of a hassle certainly sounds like something nintendo would want to do
This is the most sensible theory I’ve heard thus far in terms of a reasonable function, however I’m not sure it makes a lot of sense to have a dedicated button for this on the controller as opposed to just using in-game menus.
when you were listing the words, I thought about "calibrate", just to make it easier to calibrate the controller, but the cast idea is actually great
Yep
I like that, that makes the most sense. That would also explain the lettering, because c would stand for both calibration and centering. The ability to instantly calibrate a gyroscopic controller by pointing it at the center of the screen and hitting a button would be important if they planned to bring Wii games to the Switch 2.
This would be such a letdown. Two things. The original didn't need it and it worked... decent enough. Also, why wouldn't the other controller have it?
@@dualie-dude-42 because the joy-cons can "communicate" with each other which makes a second "C" button redundant
my problem with that is it just doesn’t need to be a button. for VC DS/3DS games, surely it’d make more sense to start casting when you open the respective app?
same for potential new games that use dual screen functionality.
a new button on a controller is a HUGE deal, with how standardised they’ve become. it would mean a whole new chance for misinput to happen too, so it would have to be tested v e r y thoroughly.
i really hope it’s not a cast button, that seems redundant and doesn’t feel right
C is kind of a rotated U, which would fit with the idea of the switch having the same functionality as a Wii U gamepad.
This might be it!
this
I could see that, given that 接続 could translate to either one if the word of origin related to that, つなぐ, or similar
Or "cast" so you don't have to dock the switch to play it on a TV screen. That could be why they also have the top charging port so you can hold it in your hands and charge it but also play on a big screen.
@@QuesoCookiesI’m taking this statement from a Reddit argument so take it as it is
“People who still think the c stands for cast should get lost”
When I saw “c button” I immediately thought it was just going to be an extra button option for games. There’s been a “c stick” on Nintendo controllers before and to my knowledge that c didn’t stand for anything and the x, y, a, and b don’t stand for anything.
Accept, Back
most games use Y & X to attack or to use a more specific move. So the X doesn't have a word tied to it but could be a symbol for "Fire" (the X represents having it a target)
i can't think of anything that makes sense for Y (maybe because Y fits with X because you see those 2 symbols together all the time in math)
The C buttons on N64 stood for Camera cause of Lakitu
@@QuesoCookies Lol you’re probably right. I just think of Smash on the GameCube controller so didn’t even think camera.
I just realized something this would explain why they have 2 usb port. Cause playing on cast mode would drain the battery fast. So having a usb c port at the front would be very convenient like the Wii U gamepad
oh my god i think you're onto something
The second usb port I'd for tabletop charging.
the 'C' stands for "Croatoan" and makes your entire colony disappear
I think the "C" button is probably just a customizable button. Nintendo let us change buttons around in the later lifespan of the switch, and it’s probably not "C" for customizable; it’s probably just follows "A" and "B" and they’ve had the C Stick before.
Back in my day, we had four C buttons on our controllers!
It stands for Crazy Frog and is best used when you don’t know “What’s going on?”
C probably stands for "controls" and opens up the menu for connecting controllers to the system. It is one of the most cumbersome parts of the current Switch.
Nahhh.
That would be an incredibly silly waste of an entire button, when they could simply place it in a quick menu like PS does it.
I was going to comment this exact thing. Not necessary though, it can just be a menu
I agree with you.
one of the most cumbersome? it takes 5 seconds max to go from the game to that menu lmao

I don’t understand why everyone thinks C stands for a word. On Nintendo controllers, letters are for game control buttons, while symbols are for non-game control buttons, like the home button or the screenshot button. So the fact that this button has a C on it tells me that it is a new option for games to use as a control in game.
Exactly. Why is Arlo freaking out over this
My theory is that you hold the C button with your right thumb and that turns the left joystick into the old GameCube C joystick while held. It opens up the possibility to control two completely different functions with the left joystick.
you'd expect a Z button as well if that was the case
@@tonymoore78 I think it's achievements... and they just have a fancy word for them. cant use trophy bc that's sony imagery.

Seriously though, I would say that C might just be a placeholder for a different button, since these are preproduction images. The button C might interact with the IR sensor somehow, like a center button to recenter the pointer on screen
I haven't seen anyone else mention that! That's a good idea!
C for Center, makes sense to me
Honestly, a placeholder sounds like the most reasonable idea I’ve heard so far.
C is for "connect" which the new system will be called. And you use magnetic features on the new system that will allow for dual screen playing like the 3ds. That is why we don't have 3ds games in the online library yet.
Maybe you hold/toggle it while pressing other buttons? Like turning the (not-really) D-pad into C-buttons?
And what if it's a LED instead of a button?

Sounds good to me

10:07 Oh, you said the same just right after 😂😂😂😂
Are we sure it's a button? Remember the New 3DS XL had a tiny nub that was a second joystick.
And that nub shared a name with the right stick on the Gamecube controller, the C-stick.
I was kinda thinking the same thing!
its all coming together. the codename for switch 2? OZ. the shortening for ounces. there are 16 ounces in a pound, and 8 fluid ounces in a cup. the nintendo switch 2 is going to be pushing more social interaction as its gimmick. 8 person local multiplayer, 16 person online multiplayer, and the C buttons stands for community or connect to some service which makes this whole ordeal easier, so that switches can connect to each other like how the DS did with download play (although id be surprised if download play came back)
or it stands for cast that makes more sense
