The ONLY review of the 3D abilities of this projector. Thank you! I use a 14 year old Sony 30ES and it's 3D sucks. I sit 9 feet from a 138" screen. It's great to get a review from another close-screen viewer. I was worried 3D wouldn't work that closely, as it doesn't on my Sony.
I have been shooting 3d everything since the 90s, and have been shooting 4k 30fps per eye 3d for many years with many different cameras. The only reasonable 3d thing is using a head mounted display. I still have the HP reverb 2 and it really is incredible. The standards all stopped after avatar at 1920x1080 at 24fps was the max due to the tech back then. For a movie, its not bad, because movies generally are all 1080p 24fps. When you shoot your own stuff and watch it back on a good HMD, its incredible. I am using twin z camera E2 cameras that are cinema cameras. I have many other rigs, but they all can do 4k per eye at 30fps. The zcam can do 60fps with virtually no compression because its a cinema camera. Projectors just are not in the remote ballpark of being able to do this. So, if you like 3d movies, I guess these projectors are fine, but being able to easily shoot home movies in 4k per eye, which is basically 8k which is 7680x2160, which is twin 16x9 4k videos... its unreal. Super sad that simply nobody gets this. What blows my mind is, the HMD got cheap, but NOBODY builds a decent 3d camera. NOBODY. Its unreal. Tech now should easily be making a normal 3d camera that shoots 2 4k video clips at 30fps. Not vr180, because that is a crazy weird different thing, just normal 3d. No maker does this, its stupid. Many years ago gopro released the hero 4, that was over 10 years ago. With some electronic syncing, you can sync 2 of those up and its totally fine. google mewpro gopro and you can see the electronics to do that. That puts 4k per eye in your hands for around $500 all in. We all have 2 eyes, but NOBODY wants to make a camera that sees in 3d???!?!?!? Seriously?!?!?! I am the only one doing this?!??!?!?! what is going on
What is the minimum Ansi lumen to enjoy 3D movies when using active 3D glasses. I have a Benq HT5550 with a maximum of 1800 lumen and it is not enough. In 3D it is like the movie is always in a night seen. I am thinking of buying a HT4550i would it solve my viewfing lack. The room is dark using shades so light is not an issue. Thank you for your honest review
I just subscribed because your very interesting to listen too. I am a big fan of 3d. My 65 inch E6 has burn in so I need an alternative. So I'm just messing with the projectors. I have 5050ub that I haven't opened because I realized that it won't do 110" at the throw distance I am limited to. I have the 4550i coming tomorrow which will work. Are u happy with the 4550i
I'm also ps running a sheild. I finished your video. Great Video! I don't think I'm even going to open the 5050ub and just run the 4550i that's coming tmrw.
Great review..

Many thanks for this!
I love 3D, even on my old w1070 , thank you for he great review! Thinking of 4550i as a replacement since w1070 accumulated too much dust inside.
Are you still enjoying the Benq? May I ask which 3d glasses you are using with the HT4550i? Thanks!
Very much... Ended up getting the AWOL, but always open to even more "pro" pair.
Nice! Thanks

If 3D is not needed would you consider the Epson ls1200 over this Benq?

You can brighten your 3D viewing experience by brightening up the settings if you are connected to a Laptop and your 3D movies don't have to be dark.
BenQ 5800 is way better (5k)
