    Great video and very helpful. I used a spring bar tool from a watch battery and band replacement tool kit to push the hand spring into the correct position. These can be bought very cheaply on Amazon.

    Thanks for the inspiration. If you’re not using a little vise you are just trying to do it the hard way. I used a flathead screwdriver bit the same width as the space to push the spring up. Like you said many ways to skin a cat.

    Scott THANK YOU! First while taking my 586 apart the (unknown then!) hand spring did a belly flop on my chest! Spent 2 hours looking...then found it 4 feet away in opposite direction. Made a V on a small screwdriver. Installed...NEVER to be touched AGAIN!!! (2 days total)

    Thanks for taking the time to do this - I noticed the "extra part" (spring) as I was putting my Model 64-6 back together and had to look at a schematic to figure out what it was for - I would have never figured out where it went and how it went together - thanks very much!

    Scott,
    Thank you so much for the video. I had been wanting to brown and blue my mim hammer and trigger after I put a radius on the trigger and polished out the lines on the hammer the mold left. They turned out better than I had ever hoped. I used one application of express brown and 3 coats of oxpho-blue. I would have never tried it without this video. I had the hand and spring back in in less than 5 minutes. I made my own tool and it worked great. I understand about not sharing your secrets, but thanks a lot for sharing this one.

    Thanks for putting this video on The tube!! You saved my rear!! I just got a 629-7 and the short part of the hand spring isnt into a hole it is in a trough and it’s easier I was looking for a specific hole for it to be stable but with all the gear you have I popped it in there!! Thanks again!! I have been a GS for a little over 40 years and it’s just a hobby but since all the gun work started coming in small stuff get put in the back at the big stores so I get their leavings!!

    Brother, thanks so much for this video. I'd have never gotten the hand back in without seeing you do it. My Model 49 thanks you too.
    But I did find a cheaper alternative to your dental instrument that you don't have to make. One of my hobbies is watches, and for less than $10 on ebay you can buy a watchmaker's "Spring Bar Tool". It has different sized replaceable split ends that screw into the tool. One of them was the perfect size for pushing on the spring!

    I'm used to working on older Smiths. I just picked up my first modern version and was unaware of the change in how the hand spring is fitted. I was stoning the internal parts and fitting replacement springs. All went well until the fourth reassembly when the hand spring fell out of the trigger. I figured it had to go into a notch, but where and how? Your video spared me a trip to the local gunsmith to find out. Amazingly, I got the spring to go back in on the first try! I did a little reconnoitering first with a dental pick so I knew where the hole was, then switched to forceps and pick. Thanks for the advice.

    DUDE! Where were you 3 days ago? I was doing a "trigger job" on my 686 and I managed, much to my chagrin, to separate the hand from the trigger assy. Shortly thereafter, the spring fell out. With no luck finding a youtube video, I farted around with that spring for the next 3 hours. Two hours to figure out how it installed, and another hour discovering an allen wrench just small enough to fit in the slot was the ticket to compress the spring while installing the hand. All that to say, I discovered you in the process and tip my hat to your most excellent videos. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video, I took out my trigger and went to set it down on the table. Well needless to say I dropped it and it hit floor. So I looked around on RUclips to no luck. I found your video by googling looking for an exploded view of the firearm. Prior to your video I found people saying what a pain it was. To install but in my mind I envisioned it going together differently. Well after finding your video I had the gun Back together in about 5 minutes. Unfortunately during my trying to put spring in by the wrong way. I relaxed the spring to much. Have new springs coming for it. Thanks again.

    Thank you Sir! You come off as friendly and talented. Small but funny story: I was taking apart my 686+ -6 yesterday and the one part of the tutorial I had going that I did not pay attention to was the part which recommended not removing the arm from the trigger because of the tiny spring inside. Luckily I have experience with basic watch repair and jeweling so I knew I could get it all back together (after I spent time searching for the spring, struggling to find it online, ordering it, and then watching it loosely fall from the trigger that it never actually flew out of). However your video makes getting it back on much easier. Long winded comment but eh, when else would I talk about this? God bless!

    Thanks for the video. Very challenging for the average guy to get the hand tension spring back in! My local gun smith charged 45 dollars to do it and refused to let me see how he did it. I need a new local gunsmith!!

    • @vdcfirearms3609
      @vdcfirearms3609  6 лет назад

      $45 is the what I would charge and I don't let my customers watch ether. So don't take it too hard. Gunsmiths spend a lot of money to become a gunsmith $22,000 to $30,000 so we tend not to share that info.

    It all looks so simple accept that part about getting the spring to seat. Seat in what? Where? It's about as clear as swamp water to me. The rest of the installation is simple. I guess what's needed is a bright light and a blow up lens to video the process. Thanks any way for the effort.

    You saved my bacon, many thanks, now that I realized there’s a hard to see pocket for the short end of the spring then the spring coil sits in a pocket of its own and snap she’s together, yee Haa.
    Any tricks to keep that sharp end of the hand arm from scratching the blued part of the gun as you slip the trigger off its stud to remove it?
