None of the other Pokemon-likes plays remotely anything like Palworld does: most of them rely on Pokemon's tried and tested turn-based battle format with capturing and raising. Palworld does all of that in a fully real-time world: you're not waiting your opponent to make their move, then you having to do the same out of menus, you see your Pals attack and move around in in real time while you're also contributing to the fight via your firearms. As many people point out, it's more of an Ark clone than a Pokemon clone, just replace the dinosaurs with cute cartoony creatures.
Honestly its not even Ark because Ark has perma dino death, stupidly long tame timers, is a PITA to properly setup and balance for single player, doesn't have the automation loop like Palworld, and then after you build everything up 1 alpha carnotaur comes along and destroys 60 hours of work. and that's single player, which is not real ARK. Real Ark is griefing disguised as PVP, picking up naked players off the beach and dropping them into shark infested waters, finding a solo player with a bow and a spear with your 20 person end game guild and rolling up on them with space age weapons and taking them prisoner and refusing to let them die while you pelt them with Charcoal. No, Palworld is its own unique experience unlike either Ark or Pokemon. And its all about the pals. At your base, in the wild, and even the best personal damage builds to buff player damage are pal reliant.
We need a Helldivers 2 video, pleeease. I think you both will love it. It's one of the most fun games that i have played in a looong time, proper "rule of cool" fun.
I REALLY enjoyed this video. Don't get me wrong, Matt's multiple-day edits are amazing, but it's just as fun to see you guys chatting and joking with each other in a setting like this. And if that means you can stress out a little less while doing it, that's even better! Now let me watch that ad-read again so y'all can get paid the big bucks.
Depends how you play the game tbh If you expect the game is good before even play it. Well yeah. the game is bad. but if you actually playing the game, you will find the fun, the good, the ugly part out of it.
I hope someone at Gamefreak and Nintendo watch the videos of the fans of pokemon, listen to what we all like and want, and make a game we all can enjoy
they don't care, pokemon is one of the most profitable franchises in the world with minimal effort involved. why would they invest more than they need to and take risks ?
even in the dogshit state that the games are released in they're selling in millions day one. They're not gonna fix what's profitable enough. That's the problem with blind brand following and lack of competition.
Loved your oldie where you reviewed the indie games that struck that special chord in your heart (except for Dead Cells bc of all the diarrhea Christmas lights). Do some more indie reviews like Cocoon, Pocket Beasts, and Dave the Diver.
It seems like a lot of the main complaints are lag (and the AI) related. Traversal is much better when not playing on a server. One of the big positives that they mentioned without realising is the world settings. I like a bit of the collection and crafting loop, but it is amazing they gave players they way to adjust the game to what they want from it right off the bat.
My first base was set up on the exact same place as yours, and my raid experiences were all the same as well AHAHA with every invader getting stuck on that little slope. Great video as always, guys
This game is great, the exploration is top notch, they just need to fix the AI, its rage inducing how dumb your pals are at base, whenever you build something slightly narrow, or at the edge of your base, they can and WILL get stuck and starve, and good luck making them help you on your assembly line.
They already released one major patch quickly that massively reduced this and made pals also teleport often if they get stuck. I'm sure they will continue to do more. TBH this is not bad for the first blush early access state of the game. This appears to be their "minimum viable product" released as early as they could to start getting feedback to patch it up with. Also, alot of the issues in multiplayer are because server providers oversold themselves to capitalize on the gold rush. Hosting solutions we've used for years were running horribly. And that's not Palworld's fault.
Forget to mention its not even 1month out and its still in Early Access And its still performance and bug wise much stable than scarlet and violet after 1 year xD (and all other switch poke games)
Because people are too busy trying to force everything to be a pokemon and giving GameFreak credit for mythology and basic animal designs. Gamefreak does not own "basic fox, basic penguin, basic monkee, basic wolf, etc". That's not copying pokemon, that's basing your design off of real IRL animals. Like a big chesire cat is Gengar? Or people saying chillet (and ice ferret) copied dratini (a water serpent). Really its all so incredibly stupid.
Also another one: Grizzbolt has nothing to do with Raichu or Electrobuzz or etc. If he resembles anything he's electric Totoro, from the same movie as the Cat Bus.
On top of being a fun game, here in Brazil there is one thing that makes Palworld even funnier e famous: the word 'pal' has the exact sound as the word 'pau', which is one of our many words used for 'd*ck'. Needless to say, there is a lot of memes and stream clips revolving around this.
So here is my opinion on Palworld, it’s a good game, not amazing, but good, it basically keeps your attention until you get to the end game, and you have fun along the way even with the bad experiences and glitches. Especially when you know it’s in Early Access ALPHA. Not even beta or full release. This is the very beginning of these Devs journey. There are things that big the game down along with the legal shit with Pokémon, but all in all, I think the game will do well and should do well, especially after full release.
You guys are awesome! I do miss your initial style of editing humor, lots of references and quick witty asides and such. But it's always a pleasure. Be well 🤟🏻
You didn't include one of the important parts of the game and one that would have taken care about one of your problems, I also didn't see it in the video. Base automation. Your pals have different abilities - some are good and crafting, in fact find a lv.2 crafter and they will be 2x as fast as you when working on the bench and so on. Once you have your base set up, you only come back to collect what is crafted and to enhance it. Basically the base is what you set up to automate your food needs and crafting requirements and not something you actively work in yourself. Also, Nitewing is intentionally low on stamina. It's the worst flying mount you can get. I also didn't see you getting to the second area, where there are 2 new flying mounts you could get (one only appearing at night). Which are much faster and have way more stamina, making it feel great to upgrade to them. In fact, other than the AI for humans, most tedious stuff is part of the progression that makes the game fun once you find out what the strengths and weaknesses of your pals are but you completely missed the main gameply loop of the game...
For a lot of the problems you describe there is a solution implemented in the game. I used my pals to craft my items. Travelsel is way easier with mounts, so it was fine for me the moment i unlocked one. Yeah pals sleep, because they are tired. Just do smt different in the meantime or go to bed yourself ... The only real problem for me is jank, but its an Early Access title and the core gameplay loop feels good. So not a major problem to me...
Aye, they're trying to play it like a survival game with pokemon. But its an automation game with pals that uses survival game mechanics as a foundation for its automation. They prolly didn't even skill into work speed (which gives a massive 50% per level, tripling your personal craft speed with only 4 points spent) while also complaining about craft times lol. And then rather than just go do one of the 50 things on your list they said "I have the patience of a squirrel" and then stayed to craft something themselves lol. There is almost never a reason to craft or build something yourself.
@@Ralathar44 Yup, the game should tell you to find a pal that is good at crafting, because seeing people say it's boring to craft things is kind of a waste. Like, don't and let your pals do it and come back later to collect it. Or even better, find a pal that is lv.2 at it and it doubles the crafting speed, which it does for every level.
There are definitely some pals that look like pokemon but the ones that are brought up the most are just generic animals. The ones they brought up were just a beige fox, green monkey and, blue penguin.
Its wild seeing all the glitches you guys are getting. I wonder if its more common from the multiplayer aspect (Oh hey, something else they ahem borrowed from Pokemon). I never had single crash or stutter before installing mods, weird how the experience can be so different.
Having played just by myself and on a server, yeah, multiplayer makes things much laggier. A bit of a shame, since it also makes the game way funnier too. I hope the game continues to be bug fixed and optimized to mitigate that jank, but I suspect a part of it may just be inherent to multiplayer games played online.
Yeah that video of her climbing and warping all around 100% sums up the multiplayer experience. We have a private server and jesus christ it adds a 10x jank multiplier
Yeah its the multiplayer. I played about 10 hours solo, and then had my partner make a server and joined her game, and its crazy how different it is. Grappling is straight up broken, climbing is glitchy at the best of times, if you jump while climbing you get teleported downward, Pals often just teleport out of existence, and projectiles go through solid objects lol. Still not enough to ruin the fun stuff, but definitely put a damper on the experience.
Note that some of this is due to server providers overselling themselves. We have some server solutions we've used for years that were giving us terrible latency and running poorly. And that makes multiplayer issues far worse. That's really not Palworld's fault though. Once things chill out a bit and server providers get back down to the amount of customers they actually have the resources to support we'll see how Palworld works on a proper dedicated server.
@@Ralathar44no, I hosted my own server and it ran like dog shit. if any other open world multiplayer game hosts fine on my machine, that is definitively "Palworld's fault" lol
My hint how to have fun in palworld: Whatever you do. Do not, and i repeat: DO NOT. PLAY. ONLINE. OR ANY MULTIPLAYER. The game is simply not made for that and its so much better in offline single player.
nothing to do with the review in fact im not even a full minute into the video but doing an impression of anime Ash so well and then immediately replying with 'save it for the bedroom' immaculate content guys pls keep it up
The edge of Pokemon has over Palworld is that Pokemon has in depth mechanic like what kind of moves your pokemon potentially has and more strategy overall, Palworld is just mostly action game, but when they add PvP there will be a massive spike increase on Pal World player
Palworld also let you control your Pal's moves, with the extra depth that you also need to consider how the skills functions in real time instead of just a damage number.
Breeding is it'd whole other mini game especially because you can use random Pals like a Beakon and a Carprity to get a god damned Anubis. And Anubis is like the best Pal to have for mining and crafting and building. I stick like 3 Anubii at each of my bases and they take care of all the Pal Gear, all the production lines, and they even repair walls after raids 😂
Palworld is a 10/10 early access game, however the devs have said its only about 60% done so that makes it a 10/10 game. After bugfixes, content additions, and mechanics overhauls, itll be a 10/10 released game. Act man said it best, its rhe polar opposite of the day before.
At the end of the day it's a somewhat decent, properly open-world monster catching game. I think that's the real appeal for it. Well, that and you can catch humans with pal spheres (that's not a bug, that's intentional).
Honestly, for a game that is still in prerelease, that is not too bad. Like, if it were an actual Pokémon game, those would only be some of the more minor bugs on full release.
Wow I didn't expect you guys to be one of the many people just comparing this to Pokemon, and completeling missing why this game is so good: the gameplay loops.
How dare you lump slime rancher with the copycats XD also bc the game is explicitly a preview, I give it a lot of slack, honestly it works pretty well on console so far, also the sound is a bit crunchy but i love it lol
one of the most wholesome reviews. also as I'm typing this matt said two in the pink and one in the stink. it is janky but also early access somewhere = a beta version at best
this is Red/Blue jank, i love the fact it is jank, I love the bugs, and I am glad to experience it as a fresh player. I was like 9 when i started blue. honestly no idea what i was doing, but we did the thing. Palworld is that feeling.
I think Palworld's biggest strength is using the "Gotta catch 'em all" novelty as the primary way of character progression in a survival-craft game which, for me at least, is so intoxicating.
The emotion of the pals is also what gets me. The monke goes full monke when he fires. Depresso is a depressed lil guy. It's everything I wished Pokemon would lean more into but has trouble doing... Since they're a small company on a tight budget, I'm sure. Plus the lack of turn based is what also makes this feel so good.
You two are so funny, such a sweet couple! (By the way, if your Pal is exhausted it won't work, it will go to sleep. That is why that pal kept going to bed when you were trying to get it to craft for you.)
No, I ran into this issue as well. There is a bug if the stations are close together they will 'assign' to the nearby one instead of the intended, beds included. I had an Anubis who with 100 Sans 100 food who instead of assigning to the pal tool bench assigned to a bed behind us. Same with the ranch, a Vixie (same stats) and a nearby bed. They would rest for 5 seconds and then jerk off somewhere.
Palworld itches many scratches for various game types. You might say it’s like two games you know very well smashed together (Pokémon and whatever) There are also many bugs and glitches, to which we must remember, this game is early access. I have had more than 3 updates nearly 20 gigs each. They are literally rewriting this game weekly to improve. And the potential for expansions is insane. New pals, new islands, more levels, new crafts, crossover, PvP… unless Nintendo tries reeeeally hard to get a slice of that 8mil pie (atm of this vid) this game has the Potential to be a new Pokémon franchise

Depresso: "mine rocks for 16 hours and what do ya get?"
"You load 16 tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt."
Depresso's are not really the best work force 😊
We need to talk about how you not only know what a Rolodex is, you have one as a prop. 🤯
Do we? What's wrong with knowing what a rolodex is?
I REALLY enjoyed this video. Don't get me wrong, Matt's multiple-day edits are amazing, but it's just as fun to see you guys chatting and joking with each other in a setting like this. And if that means you can stress out a little less while doing it, that's even better! Now let me watch that ad-read again so y'all can get paid the big bucks.
Thank you so much! Glad to hear that 😊
the funny part is that Palworld is still in early access and yet it is fun ass hell compared to AAA games nowadays.
Depends how you play the game tbh
If you expect the game is good before even play it. Well yeah. the game is bad.
but if you actually playing the game, you will find the fun, the good, the ugly part out of it.
then you sir are playing the wrong aaa games
I hope someone at Gamefreak and Nintendo watch the videos of the fans of pokemon, listen to what we all like and want, and make a game we all can enjoy
I, too, have completely unrealistic fantasies
they don't care, pokemon is one of the most profitable franchises in the world with minimal effort involved. why would they invest more than they need to and take risks ?
sadly youre absolutely correct T_T @@danilooliveira6580
even in the dogshit state that the games are released in they're selling in millions day one. They're not gonna fix what's profitable enough. That's the problem with blind brand following and lack of competition.
Game Freak doesn't want fans, they want customers.
Loved your oldie where you reviewed the indie games that struck that special chord in your heart (except for Dead Cells bc of all the diarrhea Christmas lights). Do some more indie reviews like Cocoon, Pocket Beasts, and Dave the Diver.
palworld is an indie. dave the diver however was published by people who made maple story and vindictus, i wouldnt call that indie
Shelby's Ash impression caught me. She will really catch them all.😂
Save it for the bedroom is the funniest line ever. I’m stealing it
I love these kinds sit down reviews and you guys kinda riffing and making each other laugh. More duo reviews!
A lot of my qualms with the game also boil down to jank, maybe a new area would be cool but other than that this game’s great
They already released one major patch quickly that massively reduced this and made pals also teleport often if they get stuck.
"two in the pink, one in the stink" absolutely perfect summary
"two in the pink, one in the stink", not even 10 seconds prior to the ad-read was wild.
Forget to mention its not even 1month out and its still in Early Access
And its still performance and bug wise much stable than scarlet and violet after 1 year xD (and all other switch poke games)
0:47 😂 That impression! 😂👏
“Are you talkin’ ‘bout your cat bus?” - HOW HAS NOBODY MADE THAT CONNECTION UNTIL NOW
Dude right?! I already thought about the torodora connection… can’t believe I didn’t see the catbus until now
Totoro… just finished watching toradora lol
Literally everybody has LOL! 😂 Where have you been?
10:05 I never connected Shelby to Molly Shannon before this exact moment, and now it's all I can think about.
Wow that is the greatest compliment, thank you.
On top of being a fun game, here in Brazil there is one thing that makes Palworld even funnier e famous: the word 'pal' has the exact sound as the word 'pau', which is one of our many words used for 'd*ck'. Needless to say, there is a lot of memes and stream clips revolving around this.
X in the pink, y in the stink sounds like a great way of rating games in the future. Similar to the moist meter.
Fun fact: in portugueses "Pal" sounds like "Dick", so we all hear "Dick World" when someone is talking about this game.
The ash was sooooooo clean 😭😭😭😭
You guys are going to be the cool grandparents that people wish they had. Keep staying strong guys! My girlfriend and I love your videos!
Pokemon + Beeg Guns + Indentured Servitude = Stonks
So here is my opinion on Palworld, it’s a good game, not amazing, but good, it basically keeps your attention until you get to the end game, and you have fun along the way even with the bad experiences and glitches.
Especially when you know it’s in Early Access ALPHA. Not even beta or full release. This is the very beginning of these Devs journey. There are things that big the game down along with the legal shit with Pokémon, but all in all, I think the game will do well and should do well, especially after full release.
babe wake up! new GFR video dropped
You guys are awesome! I do miss your initial style of editing humor, lots of references and quick witty asides and such. But it's always a pleasure. Be well 🤟🏻
I love that most of the gripes you had on this game can be easily fixed, since it's still in Early Access
Most fun gaming related channel I've seen in years. Keep up the good work!!!
Where is should your boyfriend play Helldivers?? I need it now!!!
Honestly. Your channel is the most authentic reviews of games out there. And I appreciate honesty.
Thanks.
Its in Early Access, I wanna see another video once its fully released ❤❤
I was waiting for that "They're the same picture" moment
I love you guys so much, and I love this new format for your videos too with both of you reviewing it from your different perspectives! :)
Palworld only is so great because Nintendo made us believe that a Pokémon game with half of that features wuold be impossible.
There are definitely some pals that look like pokemon but the ones that are brought up the most are just generic animals. The ones they brought up were just a beige fox, green monkey and, blue penguin.
Grappling hooks have been the best thing in gaming ever since Bionic Commando came out for the NES way back in 1988.
Those thighs plus Ash's voice DAYUM
My favorite off brand product I have seen was at a state fair, and it was off brand permanent markets.
Skerples, they were amazing.
The game is simply not made for that and its so much better in offline single player.
nothing to do with the review in fact im not even a full minute into the video but doing an impression of anime Ash so well and then immediately replying with 'save it for the bedroom' immaculate content guys pls keep it up
Ok Al Pacacino is legit THE greatest name someone could give to an alpaca.
What is the name of the guitar music they put in the beginning of the video?
Considering how good this game is in early access i honestly can't wait to see how it improves when the devs are done with all their roadmap stuff
"save it for the bedroom"
haha-.....wait WHAT?!
You guys are so funny even after graduating from girlfriend to marriage status.😂 Keep up the good work.🎉
I'm not your pal, guy
I'm not you guy, friend.
@@ckhayne2I’m not your friend, dude
Play Helldivers 2 together :D... Matt will need a new arm after deploying stratagems and firing while reviving Shelby.
Pokemon Breath of the Wild. Come on Nintendo, WE'RE WAITING
I love how many people review this game and have obviously never played an early access game before 😂
The edge of Pokemon has over Palworld is that Pokemon has in depth mechanic like what kind of moves your pokemon potentially has and more strategy overall, Palworld is just mostly action game, but when they add PvP there will be a massive spike increase on Pal World player
Should've mentioned its in early access when discussing the bugs/jankiness
Nah that would be semi responsible for a game reviewer to do.
You didn't expect game critics to act like 100% generic games critics?
Your Ash impression is spot-on!
Pokemon with guns
I love love love that purple Pokemon jumper Shelby is wearing.
This game got boring really fast. I hope they add more on the final release version.
Average Rust/Ark experience
I am thumbs up 👍 for Shelby's Ash impression!!
Why did she randomly just pull out a genuinely good Ash impression out of nowhere
How dare you lump slime rancher with the copycats XD also bc the game is explicitly a preview, I give it a lot of slack, honestly it works pretty well on console so far, also the sound is a bit crunchy but i love it lol
People are trying so hard to force it to be as much like Pokemon as possible that they've completely blinded themselves.
Now do Helldivers 2 next! I would LOVE to see your take on that one with your humour. Love the vids keep it up!
Shelby: why are you so mean to the chicken.
Me: because it’s not Zelda
😂😂
one of the most wholesome reviews. also as I'm typing this matt said two in the pink and one in the stink. it is janky but also early access somewhere = a beta version at best
this is Red/Blue jank, i love the fact it is jank, I love the bugs, and I am glad to experience it as a fresh player. I was like 9 when i started blue. honestly no idea what i was doing, but we did the thing. Palworld is that feeling.
Holy shit that Ash voice was on POINT.
Shelby your ash voice is on point.
That save it for the bedroom line almost killed me
I think Palworld's biggest strength is using the "Gotta catch 'em all" novelty as the primary way of character progression in a survival-craft game which, for me at least, is so intoxicating.
So here in Brazil you can read Palworld as Dickworld so everytime you both kept saying Pal Pal Pal i was spitting my coffee all over my computer
Couldn’t care less about palworld. I’m here for your commentary and interaction with each other! Your content is awesome!
Oh god the fear of getting stuck in grapple flight every time i used it is real, glad they fixed that so you can cancel out of it now.
Holy crap, Shelby's Ash is SPOT FRIGGIN ON.
