  • We explore one of sailing’s most sacred stops and leave our mark! We also anchor by drone, feed sting rays stranded in a decaying resort pool, witness the migration of butterflies, avoid military target practice, sail into the Whitsunday's and Pierce turns 8! It’s a jam packed, sailing packed, episode to bring 2021 to a close.
This will be our last episode for 2021 so we can spend time with our family over the holiday season. But don't worry, we will be back in 2022 with more adventures in the Whitsunday’s and beyond!
We want to thank everyone for supporting us during 2021. Our little channel went from 30,000 subscribers to 66,00 in just one year! We’ve loved reading your comments and meeting viewers along the way. Many of which have now become lifelong friends (you know who you are!).
So, Happy Holidays world! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you in 2022!

ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes every Tuesday!
OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston area of the United States and sailed south to the Caribbean and then west through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia.
OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via RUclips and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids.
FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode:

Seth makes me smile. His love of sailing is obvious and he is proud of his sailing skills and repeats “Its fun, its cool” several times….LOL…His enthusiasm makes me feel good . I like the man and hope his boys learn to love sailing.

I find myself laughing at Seth quite a bit because he so often talks about the speed and performance of Archer - kinda like a teenager boasting of having the fastest car.

Merry Christmas Sailing Family. And a BIG Happy birthday Pierce . Your children are at the age when it is the most fun to do things with, so quickly they grow up. The Best times I've had with my children was when my boy's were 5-12 years of age. At that age You are their hero and the purvier to adventures untold. CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS Steve h.

Great episode as always. FYI. The native pine trees to the area are Hoop pines. They are very beautiful I think, and its a great pity they wete so heavily logged on the islands to be replaced with non indigenous palm trees just to please our "idea" of how the tropics should look. Yes it naturally looked like the Pacific Northwest, but warmer weather. I remember also being shocked approaching this area for the first time in the 1980's that it did not look how it was sold to everyone on the brochures. ( especially the Whitsundays). Australian developers can never seem to be able embrace the natural beauty of Australia, they want to change it into something else. Anyway its still really gorgeous and looks like you are loving Australia 🇦🇺 💕

I love the birthday enthusiasm. Happy belated 'Eights' Pierce. It's gonna be the best year of your life! Hey, you almost did lose that drone. I have the same one - and several other DJI copters. It is always better to hand launch in that situation. I'm actually surprised you did not get magnetic compass interference by launching off the solar panels, buy yeah, practice hand launching a time or two on dry land, and you'll find it's a snap - almost like they were designed for it actually. None of my copters have ever made contact with Terra Firma. For me - a land dweller - it's about keeping dust and whatnot at a minimum, while for you, it's about not losing the drone. Otherwise, great flying by the way!

I'm surprised that nobody has uploaded a video where they used a submersible drone to "dive" on the anchor. You might want to look into that as you get up north in the crocodile infested waters. See you guys in 2022!!

How cool would it be to draw a track on your drone controller screen whilst you are flying the drone overhead and have it download onto your boats Navi / autohelm system! The boat then follows that track. DJI and the big three or four marine electronics makers should collaborate on that one. Are you listening B&G? DroneHelm!

I love your stuff, not sure who told you Oatley developed Hamilton Island (perhaps just beause it fitted the narrative :) ). It was bought originally by a guy called Keith Williams in the 70s. He did pretty well all of the development (marina, Resort you are sitting in, Airport, infrasture etc etc) in the 80s and 90s. Bob Oatley bought it in 2003 and has developed things further like adding a golf course on Dent Island, however very little of what you actually see Oatleys developed. Areas like the main resort amazingly havent seen much love since Williams. Just saying. BTW, its our favourite place in the Whitsundays.

If cruisers took the plastic beach wreck eye sores, and melted it down with a hot metal grill they could make letters, and signs, or art work that would last , and be beautiful. Also bird baths. and bird houses. I saw a man making bar stool tops out of bottle caps on the internet, and another man was making colorful bowls that gave me the idea. These camps could be every where.

Hi sad to see you go....i'm 70 and a little late for to venture out like all of you have done. Something i would like to know is why the boating industry often hides their prices. They should have a packaged complete boat. I'm wanting a monohull or catamaran or trimaran. reasonable docking is very hard to find here and after hurricane Michael destroyed most all the boats. I can't travel much on a boat i cannot sleep traveling in any kind of mode really. Docking will decide for me the sailboat i end up with. i hope to afford a condo or house with deep water dock and then my last years i can get sailors to take me with the on my sailboat or theirs. I sold my boat just before the hurricane so i hope to get back into sailing.
