    Aaliyah was a smart cookie. She sang soft strictly for stylistic purposes in her songs on albums and what not, but saved her true range for live performances. That's why she sang much 'heavier' and in her lower register a lot.

      Terrell James I don't think it's because of her vocal range etc. I think it's probably because of the uniqueness of her voice. That's why I like her voice at least. People seem to think you have to be a powerhouse to be appealing but even though her voice wasn't all Mariah or Whitney her voice was still calming and smooth and different. This is just coming from me though, not an experienced singer or anything.

    • @neyoswifey42
      @neyoswifey42 9 лет назад +36

      ***** I agree 100% about not having to be a powerhouse singer. I feel that if everyone sang the same, there would be no originality. Aaliyah had that angelic falsetto, and an awesome low register. She could dance, act, and was very sweet. Another example is the singer Sade. She doesn't belt tunes like Mariah, but her voice is very soothing as well.

    People need to stop saying that if Aaliyah never died that Beyonce wouldn't be what she is now. Have you guys ever heard of co-existing? Look at Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, the fans were split down the middle between those two whether people like to admit it or not. I believe that if Aaliyah had indeed lived through all these years, her and Beyonce would own the top of the music industry TOGETHER. Aaliyah had her fans and Beyonce had her fans, both of them were owning their own career paths, both of them had two different sounds that appeal to two different groups of people, and both groups are LARGE and love them to death. Aaliyah's voice was smooth, soft, and silky that was capable of pulling of Whitney-belts and Mariah-falsettos whenever she tested herself, Beyonce's voice is strong and fierce but also sweet. If Aaliyah had lived, I truly and honestly believe her and Beyonce would be Queen A and Queen B TOGETHER.

    Aaliyah's performances were a bit hit and miss for me. I think it was that her style of singing didn't always translate into live well. She had a beautifully soft and delicate style, that was not her only style but she approached a lot of songs in that manner. The problem with that style though is that you have to have a very good live band and audio managers to ensure that singers voice does not get lost but it has to be loud enough for the audience to hear the beat. She did seem to struggle with the some of the notes as well I don't know why because she has shown that she can do those notes before, maybe it was her nerves she did say she was shy. Anyway RIP BabyGirl you are very much missed.

The ones who always sound perfect are lip synching to pre recorded live vocals, especially Beyonce. Some of her live performances really weren't good but also keep in mind she was dancing as well as singing, and that's very difficult to do. Most if not all artists now don't sing and dance at the same time in their live performances. She was courageous and real for that. But her voice when she wasn't dancing was incredible. She truly had talent and was beautiful and amazing. So sad she's not here anymore, she would surely be better than Rihanna and all the other auto tuned talentless artists we have now. RIP angel ❤️

      Yes some ppl can walk and chew gum but it doesnt take away from her voice. But if she is singing standing still of course she going to sound better. Singing and dance takes time for some and for others they gotta.

And yall comparing singers that are out now to amyoung girl who was still developing her voice in 2001 ...can u imagine how better she would have gotten by now in 2022 ....let's judge fairly!!!! Whenever got a chance to discover everything with her voice !!!!

    Something about timbaland track are just HARD! The beat hits so hard it's hard for a vocalist to find their place.. but Aaliyah, without ego, fell into the song where it required her . The music was 50% and her voice was 50%..which is why they sound better on the album, to hear yourself live without studio settings to hear yourself properly.. Forced her to sing deeper, which she was great at, but also took away from what some expected from her. But if they want that live.. they need to simply look up her damn ballads.. All on RUclips.. and accapellas

    She wasn’t a powerhouse vocalist but within her range she really went all out. Songs like “We Need a Resolution” show that the most. Nice vibrato, great vocal runs.

    tone like no other & the timbaland tracks are hard to sing to period. she murdered Journey & One I Gave Heart To... real compositions really showed her turns & timbre to her voice.
