      The painter's name is Kasimir Malevich (the painting is called the Red House)! And his friend, the man who wrote The Fourth Way, is George Gurdjieff.

      That sounds transcendent. Honestly, a lot of it could trace back to the origin of BBA in the series. She admitted later on in season 2 that OA had shown her how closed off she had become. That she couldn’t handle the weight of the world anymore, that it was simply to much to bare.
      I think we ourselves can often come to that conclusion in life. We go through enough pain, our skin becomes withered, and we figure that vulnerability is a weakness; it isn’t. To be vulnerable is to allow yourself to feel and to be one with the world rather than separate from it. I too hid myself, wrapping myself in the depths of a cocoon in where I thought the outside world could no longer harm or faze me.
      This series, among many others, remind us that “the hurt is good”. It means that we’re alive and that we’re no longer in that cave we placed ourselves in. The world is so very vast and full of beautiful and horrific things. To experience life truly is to know how to navigate through the channels without hiding from the uncertainty of what may come next. Be open. Be honest and sincere. Be gentle and loving to the external world. In turn you may find freedom from the traps you set for yourself before coming here. Perhaps then when the light calls, you’ll drift into that invisible river. To begin anew in a dimension waiting to host you. To another world of bright colors and infinite possibility

    This woman is absolutely incredible! Every role she has ever performed in, written and/or produced has been absolutely breathtaking. Her creative vision, as well as Sal and Mike have truly been a breath of fresh air in this age of boring, non-inventive and repetitive Hollywood dribble. They all bring forth the much needed inspiration, creative imagination, and intellectual dexterity that so many of us crave. I hang on to every word like a sponge, every avenue of every role in film and in real life Brit Marling expresses. She is an absolute joy to listen to and watch and I truly cannot wait to see more from her. What a strong but also delicate beauty with a beautiful mind!

      I mean, it's almost parallel to Stranger Things, which is better by default because there aren't any unnecessary bad words, drug references, or sex scenes. Also, you can't top Wynona Ryder!! But I was thinking of Stranger Things throughout watching The OA, and they even had one of the kid's siblings watching Stranger Things in one episode. So there is an obvious inspiration there :)

      You guys are both insane. The OA is so much more intellectually and emotionally stimulating than Stranger Things. If you really like the metaphysical aspects of Stranger Things, go watch Fringe or 12 Monkeys, they both topple Stranger Things. The OA is a work of art that can’t be compared to!

    • @bryan-cv2ew
      @bryan-cv2ew 4 года назад +11

      It’s insane to put the OA and Stranger things on the same level. Stranger things is a show that might appeal to the general audience, but some things are just so stupid that it makes me want to question why the show has so much popularity. Spoiler: how the fuck does no one notice a 100 foot monster destroying an entire mall on the 4th of July? How do the characters survive the scene where the monster attacks hoppers house? The monster could’ve literally stepped on the building but instead he sends out 3 little arms.
      The OA along with a few other shows are the pinnacle of film and writing. Stranger things is not one of them.

    Regardless of whether or not you like the show, you have to respect her immensely. She created the show with Zal, and co-wrote it with him, and the fact she could create such a complex idea and relate in a way that wasn't entirely weird and confusing is amazing; the show's way of storytelling is genius and the direction is amazing. Not to mention she stars in the show and does a great job of it too. She is definitely not an actress just trying to get famous and become a movie star: she's smart, she's ambitious, and she obviously knows what she's doing through her experience.

    I like the theory that it is all exactly as we see it: the flashbacks to "Prairie"'s Russian childhood, Hap's prison/lab, the NDE visions of a goddess or entity of fate, the movements that unlock interdimensional travel, the purpose of the OA fulfilled when the shooter is obstructed from his intended mass murder, and so on. It's all real, it all happens, none of it is symbolic.

    Just gonna put this out there. The books from the last episode are not the OA's books. They are brand-new and not in braille. As a child, she learned to read in Russian. Her adoptive parents also taught her braille, but not english reading. There is no way she learned to read english in the timeframe of the first season. Maybe the FBI agent who was also in the house planted them there? OA didn't trust him from the beginning. I bet she had a reason to.

      I always thought that it was strange they showed us a scene of the OA in Walmart holding closely a sweater that reminded her of Homer. I believe that she went through a phase in her recovery where she bought items that reminded her of her past, as a way to solidify her memories... But you're right!!! The FBI councilor was in the house when he found the books and, truly, unless she learned to read certain words during her imprisonment?

    Another insterestic think about the last theory it's that in fourth way talk about the WILL and how the man as a machine need to increase his will to be capable to "do" beacuse all his actions are guided by external situations. And in the last episode of the OA homer ask the old lady how they can escape and she say (i don't remember exacly) "All you need it's will, it's always a matter of will." And OA after being shoot she says "don't you see it, I have the will". Excuse my mistakes English it's not my native language.

    OK - the wife and I just crashed coursed The OA series 1. We both thought it was original and outstanding and gripping TV.
    Here is our Theory :
    When Prairie (OA) jumps from bridge she dies and goes to another dimension = Home (now no viewers thinking this) they thinking literally - NO.
    She jumped to die and go to try and find the other 5 which took her to what seems her home town, present day but its not its another dimension. A one were the other 5 have been taken by Hap and they no longer know who they are or were.
    So its a case of who is who ??? And OA being shot at end means she is going back to her real life (she chose to live) but now she knows where Hap has went and hidden her friends - she can go back.
    Plus by teaching them the movements its helping/making them remember who they are. I think BBA is August, French is Homer, Stevie is Scotty, singer is the singer, fat kid is guitarist woman and Hap is the FBI councillor.
    That OA will come back to life from jumping off bridge through being shot in other dimension. Then she has to die again to go back.

    • @painisrealbutsoisjhope2484
      @painisrealbutsoisjhope2484 6 лет назад +6

      I find your theory very interesting, but how would you explain that August is one of them ? She was already dead when Prairie arrived, and that should mean that she made the choice not to come back, right ?
      As they need five of them to travel, so the five ( four boys + the teacher ) have to represent the five in the cage ; like maybe just as a symbol to open the gate ; French would be Homer ( sports, popular, needs to take care -homer is son - French, his mother and brothers ) Jesse would be Scott ( plants, drugs ), Steve would be Renata ( feisty personality, sex-drive kinda ), and BBA could be Rachel ( brother plays an important part ) and Buck would be Prairie ( transitioning + the fact that their parents don’t see them as their true self and are very protective )
      I also feel like Buck and Alfonso have a connection, like Prairie and Homer do ( romantical or platonic, doesn’t matter )
      I completely agree with you that the FBI agent represents Hap, that is almost certain ( like the way Prairie trust him, but she totally should not )
      - im gonna stop, elsewhise it would be too long + sorry for the mistakes, english is not my birth langage

    It's been years since I've seen it, so I could be wrong, but did she play the main girl in the movie Another Earth? Could also have the title wrong lol but it also dealt with alternate realities/universes etc and the ending still haunts me to this day

    • @easycomeeasygo4865
      @easycomeeasygo4865 7 лет назад +3

      That was her yes, but "the other earth" was only to be used as symbolizing the possibility of true redemption. So, the story had nothing to do with what life was like on earth 2, but was more like a "what-if" if we made a huge mistake and had a real chance to redeem ourselves. It would involve sacrifice on a whole new level. She could of gone to the other earth to have a new life for herself, but sacrificed her own need to let the mans life she destroyed go to the other earth where his family was still alive. Talk about true redemption! Another Earth was one of the best movies I have ever seen!

    No one has said anything about the cell phone that starts and ends with the show. Kid records O.A. plummeting to her death and than French puts his cell phone to record the cafeteria because it seems to be the last day of school. French records the OA being shot and the whole dance unintentionally.

    I just think she was actually with the 5 other prisoners and actually trying to save them and the movement didn't stop the shooter, but they caused the shooter to shoot OA so that she could have another NDE and travel to the other dimension and save homer and the others. like when you see the show, it was a precise shot, so I think that was directed by the movements. another theory that's probably not true is that she's just somebody who is depressed/has some kind of mental disorder and goes to commit suicide and when she jumped off the bridge in ep 1, when she hits the water, that's when the NDE starts and she's imagining everything after that and to us what seems like days or weeks is actually a matter of seconds while she's underwater.

    That philosopher she talks about is Gurdjieff, born in Armenia in the mid 1800, and his movements are in fact all about transcending the physical experience, being in total awareness... Gurdjieff was the man that continuously "remembered about himself". The "I AM" of Gurdjieff was always present in his life... kind of that affirmation "I AM THE OA"

    Ok, so I am betting all of them have some musical talent. This is about the Law of Seven, its a law of vibrations. Musicians know the octaves. To raise an octave, you must increase the energy or vibration. These people already know how to manipulate the physical world by increasing vibrations. That is what music does. The Dr. does not let them have their guitars or anything else. They are learning to use their bodies as their musical instrument. They are learning to increase energy to create a quantum jump. There are ways to step outside yourself so that your true self is present, like during an NDE or dancing. She is in the process of becoming who she really is. Remembering one's true nature is very powerful. The clue about the Russian painting that led to Gurdjieff's 4 th way explains alot. There is an Ennagram that Gurdjieff made. I am going to research the 4th way for more clues.

    • @barbaro267
      @barbaro267 6 лет назад +3

      I mean, the music thing takes it in a different direction than what the show intended. The idea of 5 separate but equally powerful "movements" is paralleled to the sensation of a stream of water. OA said that being transported through the portal opened up by the 5 movements felt like being pulled along a powerful stream of water. And OA desired being "surrounded by something that isn't darkness" when she said to Scott, Rachel, and Homer that she wanted to swim in water one day. And lastly, the OA "felt" the memories of the others when she washed in bathwater at home. So, the connections of the 5 individuals, each with a separate movement, have more to do with water than music.

      barbaro267
      Yeah, but you’re taking this too literally. The water is a metaphor for vibration and reality. If you understand anything about Quantum Physics, then you know reality is mostly made of vibration and light. When the person posted this comment, I think they meant vibration in the terms of Quantum Physics, so by raising one’s vibration, they can manipulate the environment around them because it’s all made of sound waves. Check it out!
