Vic Damone (born Vito Rocco Farinola) was indeed an outstanding talent. He was every bit as talented as Sinatra or Benett. I was blessed to have seen him in concert with my father; both men passed away in 2018. Rest in Peace, Pop, and Mr. Damone/Vito Rocco Farinola. ❤❤
"C. Kirchhoff" made this reply and then deleted it, I thought it was worth saving: "Many popular singers at that time were first-generation born in America children from Italian immigrants. Their parents worked their fingers to the bone and so their children were extremely ambitious to be successful, assimilated into and were proud of their country and they achieved the American dream and they made their parents proud."
It's from Schubert's "Der Erlkönig", the text of which is a poem by Goethe. I knew that I knew that melody, but it took me awhile to think of what it was. The song "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" is by Rodgers and Hart. Very nicely sung by Vic Damone. I guess the orchestra was crouched under the desk.
@nicolekat8758 Father Knows Best was famous for always kissing his wife passionately after announcing "Margaret, I'm home!" The three kids lined up on the stairs and giggled.

My mom dated Vic Damone for about 3 or 4 months. She became pregnant. When this episode aired in November of 62, I was born 8 months before this in March of 1962. I never got to meet my father.
Some people don’t like this episode but I think it’s classic Sally. We’ve all been or known someone like her. They’re witty, funny, gorgeous, talented ... but they have a little bit low self esteem and bad taste in men (notice she always picks the bad bois not poor Herman who worshiped her). She always suffers for her strong personality. I thinks that’s why Sally is my fave character and always will be. ❤
@@garyfrancis6193 Actually Sally (Rose Marie) was gorgeous when she was young. Google her when she was in her twenties. She was in her 40s at the time of this episode. Also smoking and drinking that was customary at that time took a toll on your skin.
@@garyfrancis6193 Granted, by design, her character on this show, has her always dragging her net for male companionship, and certainly here with Vic "Get the fastest tan that anyone can, tan don't burn, get a Coppertone tan" Damone.
I think that it was terrible that Rob interfered with Sally's date with Vic. It's so out of line to put yourself in between two people when they are both adults just having a good time and who knows what could have happened if he would have minded his own business. He wrecked it before "it" had a chance to turn into something or nothing. It's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all!
Idk I think Rob was just trying to protect Sally knowing how badly hurt she would have been if she knew Vic was just having fun. Esp since Sally's been so desperate to get married and all for as long as he'd known her.
@@esmeraldagems9487 She's also a grown woman and Rob is a buttinsky. This episode was annoying as hell due to Rob's behavior, and his inability to mind his own business. Like with the hissy fit he threw when Sally and Buddy were performing at the weekend resort and he got a big case of hurt feelings because they were not telling him what they were doing.
Yeah. It was very stupid of him, to go to all that extremes. They would have sorted it without him. Besides, he could have seriously hurt the guy's reputation. Even Sally shouldn't have acted so submissively unless she already knew he was pretending. And Buddy and Rob with their last line - there's a difference between a wife and a girlfriend. I don't know about Pickles, but Laura would certainly have taken Rob home and comforted him even if he got drunk and acted like a jerk.
Even with talent, a good body but just not that good looking. Ole Sal's script was written and she accepted the part. Something we might all come to terms.

6:58 Boy that Sally Rogers could play a mean piano. She even got drums and a few other instruments out of it.
😁😁😁
Rob too. LOL
🤣

Too funny!!!.... I noticed also and got a kick out of it... Lol... The Dick Van Dyke was is the best situational comedy show ever made!!
it's Schubert, Erlkonig usually sung by male voice.

who's playing the drums??
5:11 and 6:20 is the only time on the entire show where Rob and Laura hold hands like that.
4:52 Rob and Laura and Morticia and Gomez were probably the first to ever be remotely intimate on camera, as far as sitcom couples go

Did Mel say "Rick Valone"
Laura dressed like a typical house wife in 1964. They all looked like that.
Heaven forbid that Rick just tells Sally the truth. Mind you the episode would have been over in about 10 minutes.
Moral of the story; stay out of other people's business. Good ending.
This was just twisted and uncomfortable. Sally's ongoing loneliness is seldom funny.

They did a nice job showing it sensitively on her birthday episode. Not for yucks.

Buddy sometimes can say the most terrible things 😳
Rob smoking!
Ultimately, when you get right down to it SALLY was a real TURNOFF
Somehow I think Steve Lawrence would have had more fun in the role.
Rob needs to learn to mind his own business. Sally is a grown woman.
