PWARGaming. I was just wondering if you think that cb need a nerf i just want your opinion i see a lot of ppl online talking about it. Thx for reading and keep up the good work
Thabks a lot - great video, great voice and great tips for the most complicated weapon in the game. It forces you to actually study the monster behaviour before doing your moves, and looks cool af as an added bonus.
This is so good! I'm a new player and decided to main Charge Blade so this helped me out a lot. I wish I could get a written combo list though. Makes for easy practicing.
8:15 f#@$ing THANK YOU! Been through 8 videos now and yours is the only one showing the overhead cancel slash. Been trying to learn how to do this for Nergigante knows how long.
This is what I’ve been waiting for lol I always assume the tank roles in my group but I love that I can still have very good damage output with this weapon
Sup man new to your channel I started using the charge blade last night, your tips seems real helpful and explained a lot, also see you explained other weapons going to check them out thank, from a new follower.
Just got done watching my boy fighting cowboy and he said u had the best weapon vids out there, he wasn’t lying!! Def has helped a newb like me out a lot, keep up the great vids man channel is awesome!! Just subbed looking forward to more great vids👍
One very important point, when you have successfully landed a hit on a monster and you pull off a slide slash, you're attack will always reposition your character to face the enemy instead of attacking the same direction you've been facing. Essentially, it's the only way to turn while attacking in this game without having to reposition manually post-attacks.
L. Bowgun, Switch Axe and the Charge Blade. With these three I'm 100% sure you can take on anything. I've mastered L. Bowgun and Switch Axe and now it's time for this beast of a weapon. Thanks PWAR.
I'm so glad the SAED is actually better than the AED this time around. Not losing your shield charge is a game changer and a much needed boost to my favorite finishing move! HYPE!!!
I’ve only used the axe mode on CB not knowing the shield sword thingy cause it seemed to complicated and thought I was decent, still managed tempered nerg under 6 min. With this new knowledge I’m very excited tnx man!
Good stuff! Would love a hunting horn guide next as that's the only weapon I've never mained, so I'm probably gonna give it a shot on my first playthrough
Strider Roshin use those runs with a grain of salt. In the beta monster stagger points were reduced so I those runs, charge blade cam molest a monster while they're on the ground much easier than say great sword
BladeChild top CB speed runs against Nergigante are around 3'20" (with the fastest being 3 minutes flat). The fastest non-CB melee weapon times are around 4'26". Considering on average it takes around a minute before engaging Nergigante after prep and travel time, you're looking at 2-2.5 minutes of fighting time with the CB; whereas as other melee weapons are taking 3.5 minutes. Not much of an exaggeration there.
Duc Vu I hear you bud, which is why I mentioned in my OP that I hope the balance isn't as bad in the full game. I know it was just a beta, and it's not a true assessment of weapon balance, but it certainly made me nervous. I think and hope we'll see a more even playing field in the full game.
I still don't understand the charging the shield thing but I'm going to try the charge blade and git gud with it. Your guide will help thanks. My copy is coming tomorrow I think, a day early. I can't wait. :)
The same exact attack that does the super/amped discharge (triangle+circle), can be cancelled by pressing r1(r2 if default controls) as soon as you see electricity or whatever around your shield, which puts your phials into your shield. So doing combo 1, but just pressing r1 right after pressing triangle+circle, will put those 5 phials into your shield instead, giving you the buff. You need the shield buff to be able to do the super.
and that's why my DPS wasn't so great in beta. i was fighting with old pattern attack and practically wasted my time done weak combo like morph axe and endless circle spam with final AED, and never done the SAED. i have spent 400 hours in mhGen to cancel SAED in normal AED (and i'm usued to it) and now i must do exactly the opposite! lol like GS, CB have a completely different play style now. well, it's time to learn this weapon again. BRING IT ON!
Man I loved your nioh stuff I’m already loving the mhw stuff and it’s not even out yet 👍👍 I’m torn right now for charge blade or gun lance for my first weapon keep up this awesome guides
LMAO subscribed I see a yamcha reference I am in XD. Amazing video btw now I feel I can take monsters down quick for a lot of this stuff I did not know about!
So tu use the final blow , j need all the phials? Now I get it but to me it doesn't work .. my phials are elemental not impact , maybe for that? I tryed a lot in the training room
I disagree with the statement the normals are poor. If you have full phials and a charged shield you can perform Forward+Triangle for a overhead swing that hits for about 50 damage. Then hit circle for a double hit whirlwind style phial attack, it spends one phial and hits two times. It might not do as much burst damage as SAED but those combos are only useful under the assumption that you can actually land it.
This helped me a lot trying to figure out how to do that new charged sword n Shield mode slash. Though I wish they kept the phial laser blade special move they gave in Monster Hunter Generations. That move was sick
It's muh weapon. I didn't know about the Super after being knocked down. That's pretty cool. When I load up the phials after charging the shield, I like to charge the sword as well, since... you know, super spam. So you'll be spending a decent amount of time in sword and shield mode to build up phials, then super, then back to sword and shield. Might get some extra DPS with it. I've always loved CB's animations. It's so fasincating to watch the shield change and spin when you switch modes or use discharges.
I found after storing the first phials, you build up to bright red phials so the sword bounces. Do the shield store at this point. The phials are now regular red. At this point did the sword store move. Now toy have charged shield, charged sword, and full 5 white phials now the sword does element damage abd has minds eye so won't bounce. The shield is ready for super once an opening is there.
Maybe you already have a vid on it but I was curious if you could do a vid on armor as I have no idea what armor skills really matter. I am new to the monster hunter series and trying to learn more.
Same exact move to use the super, only you CANCEL its animation instead by pressing R1(R2) instead. So do combo 1 exactly like it is, only you press R1(R2) as soon as your shield starts electrifying to cancel the super. that uses phials to buff the shield.
Please do a video on the Heavy Bow Gun! I've been using it all throughout the beta and it's SO much better. Having a breakdown of the different ammo types, their differing reload times (since reloading isn't a fixed time now, it varies by ammo) and their potential uses would be cool imo. Plus Wyvern Heart is damn fun, but I objectively think Wyvern Snipe is better (but I don't know). There's so much more nuance to the HBG now, it's AWESOME!
TheShadowToast wyvwrn snipe is amazing on large targets (can you say diablos). if you line it up right you will hit crazy numbers, but wyvern heart is more consistent damage for smaller or faster targets, as it doesn't rely on piercing to proc.
Feircy Yeah, though depending on the terrain and the monster Wyvern heart can be hard to use. Especially if you can't use the rocksteady mantle on every use to avoid being knocked down. And while it does good damage, I found it left me open to attack if I get too carried away daka-daka-daka-daka-ing xD Plus, with the short recharge of snipe I found myself dealing more consistent burst.
TheShadowToast oh I love snipe, I think it is arguably the better ability, but the fact that wyvernheart has places it shines is what I call good game design.
Feircy Exactly! I love them both, but I found Snipe more useful in the beta fights (3/4 were large monsters), but having a video on this would be great :D
I really enjoyed it, but gonna have to wait for full game to see all the ammo types/mods/types. Will have a guide for every weapon, but that might be the first range wpn I cover since it's rather simple enough, and of course, a lot of fun.
In MHXX and previous MH games with CB on it, the mini SAED was more useful and more efficient use of phials than the full SAED. Less vulnerability period and doesn't use all your phials.
If you transfer a full 5 phials into the shield, it will last 2 and a half minutes. Doing the elemental discharge doesn't effect this from what I've played.
Wondering if you could do a best KO combo for charge blade. As O,O in axe mode does a total of 3 hits using 2 phials. Wondering if this helps KO faster than charged sword or super. Also what’s your favorite weapon?
Hey thanks again for the insight. I've been testing out the Charge Blade so when I start my second save I can use it right from the get go. Still going to rock the Switch Axe on my main. Its really too cool not to.
i used to do exactly this but now i am often puting in a axe duble swing since it easely does another 200-300 dmg on top of the 400 dmg a full super hit does at the cost of 1 phile. yes it is slightly longer but against mobile monsters it is more consistent since you gain a 2nd spot where you can cancel out of your combo into a guard point aswell.
You should explain the regular axe mode techniques aswell. It's not just about using the ultra charge though theres nothing wrong with using only that when you're building up phials.
Is there any point to using the normal Triangle combo if you have the sword and shield both charged, or should you just go for Shield Poke + Charged attack until you can do the Super Discharge? Or conversely, any point to using the axe form attacks at all besides the Super?
thanks for this, If not for this I still would have no idea how to charge the shield or sword /laugh not that it was stopping me from killing things, just slowing things down
I wish you would explain what buttons to hit for the combos. I hear something like "just charge your shield and go into a slash for the super elemental discharge" I have no idea how to do this.. That's why I'm looking at guides. I don't know the combos or how to do any of that
I explain it in step 2, but forgot to mention that you need the shield buffed in order to do the full super. it's at 6:10, I even slow it down, but you basically cancel the animation of the super with R1(R2), that buffs the shield, now when you get 5 phials back, you'll do the actual super.
I suck ass with it, so going to have to learn and practice it a ton before making a guide. From speed kill times, it doesn't look too good for it in solo play compared to most wpns, but in multiplayer it's a real great addition and makes annoying things less annoying a lot of the times. For the full game it should be fine solo however, and with each horn being custom with certain songs, each horn will feel a bit unique to play unlike most weapons which will usually play the same way from beginning to end. The song buffs can act like armor skills which sorta makes up for lack of any big attack combos other weapons have. That's my basic understanding anyways.
i dont like how when you do the sword charge your not doing the second slash when you charge up for the sword burst theres two slashes if you hit triangle again
I don't get why every Charge Blade tutorial is pushing the SAED so hard. Yes, it looks cool, but it's just not worth the extra effort and preperation most of the time. It does it's amazing damage only if you can land it to full potential very consistently, meaning landing the initial hits AND the explosions, which are entirely seperate from the initial attack. A little positioning error or some irregular enemy movement and you're blowing 5 vails for basically no damage. Look at 6:40 for example. That hit was hardly any better than a "regular" amped elemental discharge (AED) because almost non of the explosions landed. For the SAED you have to: - charge the blade - load the vials - charge the shield - charge the blade again - load the vials again (+maybe buff blade) - wait for the right opportunity - get into position - time the attack's long ass wind-up - land the initial attack - land (most of) the explosions Compare that to: - charge the blade - load the vials - start spamming AED The SAED is great for fighting a slow and/or big monster, but when facing something nimble or small it's usually better to not buff the shield at all and spam the AED instead. It keeps you more mobile and the shorter wind-up makes it much easier to time right, the added damage is an on-hit effect, and it's not a big deal if you miss because it only sets you back one vial. Also considering that SAED "only" does 2-3 time the damage of "AED" at the best of times, it's really only worth using when you can also make use of the shield and sword buffs.
how do I unleash all 5 vials at once?? if i do the triangle >triangle+circle>triangle+circle is only consumes 1 vial and dont give that many explosions?
3 basic sword attack into the shield bash and repeat basic sword attacks is the fastest way to gain phials. If you wanna get fancy you can do 3 basics into shield bash into charged double slash back into basic attack and spam lmao
For those who don’t get the part when your sword starts bouncing of its hits. Look at it like a gun. When your sword starts bouncing. Reload the sword (R2 + Circle for PlayStation. I don’t own a Xbox) (also you’ll know you did this right when you see some object drop from your sword/shield) and you’ll be able to start slashing again.
The reason why I loved using the charge blade is because of crowmeda and did not download mhnow to pick a favorite sword so I just used an advanced sword (or axe boi)

Basic/New Mechanics: 1:14 (see edit on how to buff shield by clicking "more" on this)
Combo 1: 4:25
Combo 2: 5:27
Combo 3: 6:52
Because the CB is fairly complex to grasp for new players, I'll reiterate once more on your gameplan:
Step 1: Use combo 2 (to build up to 5 phials, buff shield using those phials, then build back to 5 phials again)
Step 2: Use combo 1 and 3 to destroy everything. Repeat Step 1 after using the super to gain back phials toonce again, use combo 1/3. Repeat this cycle till the monster is dead, sprinkling in guard points and buffing sword occasionally in-between. Practice makes perfect.

Nice bro. Love the music. What's the name of it?
Great videos! Btw, for those who seem to be having trouble with the commands to store shield energy. A simple one is, PS4(triangle+circle) x3 then R2.
thanks broddyyy

Yus!!! Ive been waiting for this!!! thank you man!
np enjoy ^^
I really hope the Charge Blade isn't this OP in the full game. In the beta it's dishing out 50% more dps than any other melee weapon.
I'm basing this off of speed run times btw.
50% is an exaggeration.
Strider Roshin use those runs with a grain of salt. In the beta monster stagger points were reduced so I those runs, charge blade cam molest a monster while they're on the ground much easier than say great sword

This is the Best weapon video Ever! Great job explaining everything.
U can also block at the end of the morph from axe to sword and not only sword to axe. It's just a little more touchy

I disagree with the statement the normals are poor.

hey, thanks for the video. very well put together, appreciate the tine stamps. keep it up.
I've seen people use regular discharge with red shield. And that's what I'm here to figure out
That last bloodborne addition was great
thanks for this great video. And which tree do you recommend for charge sword?
4:18 am i seing right? did the shield not loose its charge after the super amped elemental discharge?!
If you transfer a full 5 phials into the shield, it will last 2 and a half minutes. Doing the elemental discharge doesn't effect this from what I've played.
Holly crap! that sounds super OP! I haven't played any titles after mh 4 ultimate, that attack crazy powerfull in that game.
Finally, Charge Blade! I am a girl who loves explosions and this weapon does not disappoint! Neither does the gunlance.
You’re not a girl
Wondering if you could do a best KO combo for charge blade. As O,O in axe mode does a total of 3 hits using 2 phials. Wondering if this helps KO faster than charged sword or super.

4:02 i immediately liked the video and subbed!!!
Which combo gets you airborne so you can mount? One of the sword ones does a rising attack but I always do it by mistake and can't replicate it
´ve been waiting for that video!
8:44 Nooo! Yamcha! How could you unleash a Super on him dude?!? You killed him!!!
Oops, well we always have the dragon balls ^^
Hey Pwar, any thoughts on hunting horn? Especially for solo play?
Awesome video! Keep up the good work 😁
JVILL my friend streamed the beta and the hunting horn made everything easy as hell lol just knock them out then put them to sleep and repeat
I would like to know more about the insect glave Haven't seen much gameplay of it
i dont like how when you do the sword charge your not doing the second slash when you charge up for the sword burst theres two slashes if you hit triangle again
Are there only certain Charge Blades that you can't charge the sword or shield?? I can't seem to charge my current charge equip.
REPLY
Will the electric effect change depends on my phial? Or it is fixed for all phial? . (want to ask the same with switch axe)
For the SAED you have to:
- charge the blade
- load the vials
- charge the shield
- charge the blade again
- load the vials again (+maybe buff blade)
- wait for the right opportunity
- get into position
- time the attack's long ass wind-up
- land the initial attack
- land (most of) the explosions
Compare that to:
- charge the blade
- load the vials
- start spamming AED
The SAED is great for fighting a slow and/or big monster, but when facing something nimble or small it's usually better to not buff the shield at all and spam the AED instead.
Where did you get the voice clip for the "combo 1 or combo 2 and 3?" it's oddly satisfying to hear
think i just used one of those text to speech things for female voice, then edited to sound more futuristic/robotic, with echoes of course.
I usually use
R2+triangle ->O -> R2
&
Triangle -> O(hold) -> triangle+O
how do I unleash all 5 vials at once?? if i do the triangle >triangle+circle>triangle+circle is only consumes 1 vial and dont give that many explosions?
Bro. Whats the name of the soundtrack that you're using bro. That music in the video sounds good. Let me know the name of it..
Great video 👍🏻. Dat yamcha tho😂😂😂😂
3 basic sword attack into the shield bash and repeat basic sword attacks is the fastest way to gain phials. If you wanna get fancy you can do 3 basics into shield bash into charged double slash back into basic attack and spam lmao
should've thrown in some axe mode combos since you wont always be going straight into the super due to positioning and whatnot
Would the super element do more damage if my phials were filled and red along with a charged sword and shield?
No, only shield buff and phial count would effect it.
Great video.. was wondering why sometimes the super has that explosion and sometimes it did.. cuz I din charge the shield :) thanks
This is very helpful. I just subscribed
The reason why I loved using the charge blade is because of crowmeda and did not download mhnow to pick a favorite sword so I just used an advanced sword (or axe boi)
How did you map r2 as r1. I can't seem to find the option to map buttons.
When I do the combo it only consumes 1 vial I dont know why i cant manage to do 5
Hi there. Is blast type charge blade good?
Is this game any good ? I;m a NEWB and looking to start gaming ?
How do you transfer the phials to the shield?
Can you do a guide on the bow? Plz
Does the charge blade still have guard points and other mechanics that monster hunter 4u had?
its in the video so yes. guard point after roundslash, and from morphing into axe or into sword i believe.
Whats the lore behind your channel icon/character?
Yes this is very helpful but how the fuco do you the weapon thing to glow pink mine never does :/
