@CoilyDiaries Yes, in the past it has got to a certain length and then began to break off. However, I am now realising that I made numerous mistakes. Blow drying too much, inappropriate treatments. This whole thing about hydration is completely new to me. My hair is now going grey, and so I need to be especially careful.

Hi. I never commented on anyone's videos before. I happened across yours today and what you said about retaining length is correct. I grew my hair from 2 1/2 inches long to my waist in 4 years. I am at 8 years now and am at my middle thighs and butt in length. It's now 33inches long. The first 4 years I always kept it in individual braids, washing at 3 weeks and taking down at 6 weeks( my hair grew fast) and braiding the same day. It grew 17 inches. Then, I locked it and it grew 14.5 inches the next 4 years.
I keep my hair covered most of the time and don't do styles. If I do a ponytail I take in down after 4 hours. Good information, keep it up.
I'll try to send pics 😊

Girl i just wanna thank you for all these gems you shared with us. You really make a lot of sense from being a twisted natural, recycling parts, the mad moisture routine all the way to the length retention tips. I implemented all of these for myself and my 5 year old. Hair care has become self care and we are living our best lives deeply in love with our hair journey. I love you my beautiful sista. This challenge is good because now it's like having company along the journey! 😊 I bought glycerin, and my hair is currently in braids using your suggested LOC method. I'm going to try keeping them for 3-4 weeks before redoing them using the same parts! I might be near waist length by next December with this routine 😆Thanks for sharing. Hair challenge! I am in but unfortunately I don’t have anyone around that I can trust to gently cornrow my hair on very hydrated stretched no heat hair. Most people prefer heat stretched hair so they can get perfect parts. I think having someone else in my hair will set me back each time. So I guess I will do the braid method on my own hair and try not to touch them for at least a month. Now that I know what is causing breakage (single strand knots) I will also use oil rinses on wash day and as needed using olive oil.

    • @CoilyDiaries
      @CoilyDiaries  6 месяцев назад

love your strategy. I agree about some else in your hair is an almost a guaranteed set back. I’ll be doing mainly twists as that’s the easiest way for me 🌺

    • @malachiredeemed1990

Hey Annet, you can stretch your hair without heat. You can use threads or Brazilian wool. Look out for videos of ladies that stretch their hair with threads. I believe it will be helpful because it has been for me. I also don't like heat so that method is my go to always.

Thank you so much for vlogmas!!! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. I am very familiar with mini braids, I was on a long-term mini braid challenge this year. It took me from about neck length to... just under armpit length after a trim. I did fail, quite horribly, to take care of my ends though during that time, so I had to trim off a lot of hair. I'm not making that mistake again in 2024. I think for this challenge I'm going to do medium-sized braids with my own hair, then lay them flat under a wig cap and wear wigs,... at least for one half of the year. I've stretched my mini braids for 3 months without rebraiding before and lived to tell the tale, so I know it's doable. I've never worn wigs consistently for a long period before so that part is going to be very interesting.

    Thanks for sharing your vlogs.
A simple hair and scalp routine has been very helpful for retaining length. Glycerin has been vital for my hair care routine for years.
Best tip I've learned over the years is to not expect my hair to do what it's not genetically able to do even lengthwise. Loving my hair and giving it what it needs inside and out is key.
Keeping the ends tucked in is so important to retain length and moisture.
Wigs can be fun when chosen correctly for face and eye shape, coloring and lifestyle. No stress no mess 😁.
Would like to see you interview other natural hair RUclipsrs.
Take care and peace love and blessings to you and yours CC.🙋🏾‍♀️🙏🏾💐💜😀

I don’t trust braids, I feel like my hair breaks when I put it in synthetic braids. (Partly because I neglect moisturizing it lol) and my braids won’t last this long because I tend to them loosely. They’ll look crazy within a couple weeks. I guess if I were to join this challenge, a better alternative for me would be crochet hair or wigs.

Definitely looking forward to the length retention challenge

I fear cornrows and prefer to do braids instead.

Yay, you made it to the end of vlogmas!! That was a lot of work! I enjoyed watching pretty much everyday. ❤
I won't be joining this specific challenge, as I need to be able to detangle more than that, also because I like changing up my hair and it still grew pretty good this past year with all that. Also I can't stand adding anything synthetic to my hair for the long term, and human hair freaks me out. (From where and whom was it sourced, and why? 😐)
But I do want to be gentler with my hair and trim a bit less often.
Good luck with the growing! Here's hoping you'll fully retain at least 6 inches, and maybe even have a growth spurt that unexpectedly gives you more! 🤩
Also, MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Please enjoy this time with your lovely family❤🎁🎄

@i3abikay That’s great! I actually was convinced to put my hair into mini braids and I just did them today…well, medium size I guess, but they’re mini to me! 😆 Corn rows and plaits worked so well on my hair this year, but I’m thinking the mini braids may be even better!! Girl I’m too excited to see what my hair looks like at the end of 2024! Hope we all get good results from diligence and consistency. 🌸

Do hair in August, December, March, and May
Wash, Deep condition, Protein treatment, Moisturize (Leave in, Glycerin, Castor Oil--lots of products because synthetic hair is drying..use applicator bottle for braids/twists)
    Stretch hair
Do these styles-cornrows&wig (band wigs, afro wigs, pixie wigs, wigs that mimic 4c hair), braids/twist (added hair)
Moisturize (with heat)/Hydrate (with steam from shower) every 2 weeks or monthly...hair might not last if you do it every 2 weeks for braids/twists.
Once at 3 months, wash as usual and take down hair.
Then reinstall hair after moisturizing again.
Repeat until you get to desired length
*rinse braids fortnightly, can't deep condition*

Way ahead of you sis. Currently, my hair is straight. I wear it straight for an entire winter. For spring/summer, I do medium-size flat twists and wear them for 2 weeks. In the warmer months, I wash my hair every 3 weeks. Let my hair rest for one week before installing a protective style. I do my medium flat twists on blowout hair and refresh my scalp with rose water every week. 2023 I retained the majority of my length and growth. 2024 I'm looking to do the same. Also, I've keeping up with my internal health.

Right now Inhave twist , however, on the 20th of this month, I'm braiding my hair down for the 3 months at a time challenge. Lol, being honest, I have almost 100 wigs literally. I have both human hair and synthetic lace fronts, Glueless wigs, and headband wigs. I have been wearing wigs for over 13 years now. However, it never dawned on me to just braid my hair down, thoroughly moisturize it once a week or every two weeks, then wash it after a month while keeping the cornrows and repeat it for 3 month intervals throughout the year lol. I swear things that seem like common sense aren't really at times to some of us, lol. It's cool though. we all have busy lives, and at times, I know some things just skip our minds to do.

Hunni you did an A+++ on your videos!!! You encouraged me to add more glycerin to my mix, which has been helping a lot. Your wash routine was also plus! plus! Now I know when protein comes into play. By the way, the music only clip was awesome 🤩 I think one music genre works great (jazz or your fav genre) 🤭I’m going to miss the daily clips.
I bought this electric heat cap on Amazon; I use it once a week during moisturizing, session and girl let me tell you it works wonders. I also bought the aveeno hard water shampoo and it’s pretty good. Actually, it has a few of the same ingredients as the Malibu C you recommended.
Finally tried the boar brush and it left my scalp feeling amazing!!! only thing that worries me is the bristles on the sides, seem like it will pull my hair? Could it be the angle I’m using? I was considering cutting both sides and only having the middle line bristles.
Doing a live would be fantastic, it would hold us all accountable, we could share our personal experiences and ask questions regarding hair as we go through the challenge. Just saying hahaha Currently, I’m at bra strap length and wanting waist length. I’ll be doing the challenge just no hair added. Thanks again for sharing your time, patience and knowledge with us. 🥰

Love your hair natural hair goals and the gems💝❣️💝 please keep them coming. Just a suggestion, since you asked, to maybe plan to do a vlog whenever you like after the year and just give it another title, so maybe not neccessarily a vlogmas at christmas next year, or not necessarily a challenge, but call it whatever title you want and do it for say 30days in a row, just so we’re not waiting till next December for a 30 or 20 or 15day vlog. Also consider letting us see more of how you wear your hair day to day or how you manage your hair journey besides styling it and washing it, Im thinking of things like storage of everything to do with your hair, what are some of the things you consider about your hair in your daily routine and show us how you manage them or talk about it. Your location is great and you’ve given it a lot of thought and consideration and care about presentation and to add to that another suggestion is maybe switch it up to showing us more of what’s happening with your hair when you are out and about your day in your environment, e.g as your hair is getting longer and bigger, do you find that your styling suits sitting in the car or am I the only person who finds car ceilings not fro freindly, they’re rather low for a fro😂 safety aside🤷🏾‍♂️

I know it’s a ton of work 😅. I think one of the things that drew me to your channel is the level of detail and the passion for hair, of course it comes with tonnes of work but well worth it I hope and trully, I think you’re building something big on your channel too sis.
I watched your video where you were talking about how you settled for being a nurse when you wanted to be a doctor. That was me at some point in life. I have the drive and energy and passion which now also goes to my hair and forgot about medicine but very diy sort of person (my sister is always encouraging me to start my own hair care line because I experiment a lot with natural ingredients much more than youtube combined 😂😂but I do it for my hair and thats good enough for me) oh and my fridge has a compartment for my DIYs. Same for bathroom, storage, handbag bedroom, car etc so my hair care is pretty much the one part of me that I occupies every space where I go.
So, I’d definitely watch anything about hair from a youtuber who’s put in the work.
No pressure though sis! It’s easier said than done which is why I’m a keyboard warrior and never ever a youtuber myself😊but seriously thanks for the hard work, it’s been fantastic looking forward to your vlog everyday, and you did not disappoint❤
My point is I just think it would be great to see someone talking about all other spaces in their life influenced by their hair care. Also, maybe research/join the debate about swimming caps for afro hair and the Tokyo olympics swimmer, and how you can influence change as a youtuber for the next olympics and or in other areas that don’t have space for our natural hair yet, like my car where my fro keeps brushing the ceiling 😂😂😂,

I'm going to watch the new year hair event coming. Unfortunately I don't have type 4 all around I have very fine hair and it will lock if I don't detaingle . And fake hair is toxic for me . I'm allergic . I'm also not. Wig person, never have been. So I will be doing some revisions to your plan . And then share the results.
Thank you for these inspiring vdos. !!❤❤❤❤✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
