he said it was inspired by 'Home,' the only similarity i can think of off the top of my head is the Phrygian Dominant scale (used commonly in middle eastern music, featured in both 'Home' and 'Bleak')
its also worth noting that Home, in turn, was clearly inspired by 46&2 by Tool

Opus Eponymous Way back in 1993 I went to see Dream Theater play a set of covers at Ronnie Scott's in London. As well as Steve Howe and Barney from Napalm Death, members of Marillion were special guests. Of course, Portnoy's always made his fave bands very public both in musical suggestion as well as in tribute or homage. So it was very clear that night, the way he enjoyed playing Marillion songs with them, that he was obviously a big big fan.

As a lifelong Metallica fan, Mike's take on the Metallica albums was a really good review! I disagree though a little bit on Hardwired. I think that album is more uncompromising that Death Magnetic. DM had the pressure to be "the comeback album" and I feel they repeated themselves a little bit, which is something they've always avoided. Hardwired is just them playing and doing what they want, as they've always done. It's an angrier album and you can feel that on the title track and Spit out the bone, which are two tracks I really dig. Anyway, Mike's review on the first 4 albums was great, those 4 are Masterpieces.
P.S.1: I totally agree on Load and Reload, but they still had some great tracks like Outlaw Torn, Devil's Dance (so heavy), Unforgiven II
    P.S.2: Mike, you're a legend!
