I've tried for years to get a 1982 straight arm Zap without a broken thumb but all of them our very expensive. Also, if you push in a 1983 backpack into a 1982 Zap then you risk breaking the back as there seems to be a size difference in the back peg. Great work as always Kevin! You're a great asset to the GI Joe community!
I've had experience with that type of degraded plastic. The only thing you can do is to not touch the figure and hope. I bought a 60s era Johnny West cowboy figure at a thrift store that was made mostly of a plastic that had weakened from age, it would just crack apart like wax. Gluing it didn't do any good because it would just break again. I finally salvaged the head and accessories and sold them to someone who deals in Johnny West toys, it just wasn't worth the hassle to try to keep it intact.

Zap falls into the original 13 curse of coming first, but getting overshadowed by guys like Bazooka or even Backblast for not looking as unique.
I didn't know about the gun variant. I will keep an eye out for it. Thx!
