    Something to note about Scarlett is that while woman can serve in the early 80s, they were never given combat roles. So realistically Scarlett would be struck at a desk doing counterintelligence stuff instead of in the field.
    Of course, she wasn't just picked for the Joes because of her counterintelligence specialty, but also her skills in hand to hand combat...

      That's why the girls (Scarlett, Covergirl, Lady Jaye) were standouts in the show. Maybe they should have been named "Hawk's Angels". LOL

      @stanleyteriaca2184 I'll definitely be mentioning the prohibition on Women in Combat Arms roles, but I've got some ideas on that which I think viewers may be pleasantly surprised by!

    I admire the research put into your videos. Out of curiosity, are you a real doctor or is yours just a name like Dr. Dre? If the latter, I am surprised you did not give yourself a military pseudonym like Captain Animaction or the final rank you had in the armed forces. You seem to really love the Joes. Thank you for your service.

      @adimafilm Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm actually a mid-dissertation doctoral candidate, so theoretically will soon be a real doctor lol

    Still think that "Zap" be better for the laser rifle guy. BTW, did you know that Larry Hama is back to writing for Joes over at Image now? Can't wait to see your writeup for Sgt. O'Hara. If you don't mind, could you let me know why someone who made it as far as a Master Sarge take a pay cut and become a butter bar 2nd Lt? In the Navy, it is very rare to see someone who makes it into E-7 to E-9 land go Mustang and start over as an Ensign. I think IDW now has Scarlett as a Colonel now. I guess with non-Army writers in charge, they don't think Enlisted can be any good?

      @TenNoZeorymer72 Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen someone past E-6 take a commission either. I'm not sure that it really happens all that much even in the Army. I did know an Air Force officer one who'd been prior enlisted in both the Army and the Navy at earlier points in their career, and I knew a 1st Lieutenant who'd previously been a W-3 and an E-6 before that, but those are the closest I can think of to the senior enlisted scenario. Looking at the pay tables though, that pay cut would only be while they're an O-1, as an O-2 makes more than an E-8 with the same time in service lol. Maybe that would be a valid reason, since getting promoted (and hence raises) as a junior officer is a whole lot easier than it is as a senior NCO!

    • @TenNoZeorymer72
      @TenNoZeorymer72 Год назад +2

      @@dr.animaction I can definitely agree with that last statement as that put a halt on my own promotion because there were so few billets for E-8/E-9 in my field that (many end up abandoning their NEC just so they can get promoted) that there was a huge bottleneck at E-7 so you get a lot of long-term E-6 who can't go anywhere. I only served with one Mustang (a QA officer on my cruiser...hell of a guy) although he'd tick other officers off because he would wear his silver (enlisted) warfare pin above his gold (officer) one. :D
      The whole reason I ask is because comic writers have progressively promoting Scarlett over the years. As you will find out in your own research, she was an E-5 in the original '82 line, promoted to E-6 and offered a field command by '97. By the 2001 Devil's Due and Image line, she was an E-8. Then, imo, the enlisted shaming began and when Renegades aired, she was a 2nd Lt. At least the movies moved her back down to E-5 (although making Duke an officer...ugh). But then, she's a Major in the Snake Eyes movie (which I refuse to count as canon). I just have this secret loathing of Hollywood writers too lazy to do their homework and research (and abide by) established canon.

    • @dr.animaction
      @dr.animaction  Год назад +2

      @TenNoZeorymer72 That's why in my head canon they're all around the same ranks as on their original file cards, and they have a static existence that just shifts to current date/time lol
      For Scarlett, I honestly think that due to her secondary specialty being classified it's likely she ended up in the DIA and doesn't even really have a rank anymore, rather being assigned one as cover appropriate for her mission. Because honestly, I can't see any other reason for them to do what they do in continuity. Also, making the line-ups so officer heavy is just proof that none of the writers have any military experience whatsoever anymore!
      Oh, and the Snake Eyes movie is definitely not canon. It's barely G.I. Joe. Snake Eyes will only ever have one origin, and it's best summed up with C.M.!

      @@dr.animaction I agree. Having come from multiple generations of Navy, I knew most work was done by E-4 to E-6 and officers only as necessary (pilots, doctors, etc). And Duke will always be an SGM and would never accept that next step to CSM as it would put him behind a desk. An officer? Never!
      Yeah, Scarlett's a level or so past TS/SCI in her secret agent job. I always thought of her like Steve Trevor in the 2nd season of Wonder Woman. Mostly civilian but still in the reserves to maintain proficiencies but everyone still refers to him as Colonel. Would have been real cool if she was like Adm Rickover. Not only the head of the military side of her field but also the civilian side.

      Strangely, the man who wrote the bios on the cards was a 'Nam era Army (Larry Hama) who did a 3-year stint in firearms and EOD. Recently, I have been thinking that some of the out-of-date stuff was trying to tie in the original 12" GI Joe line in look and backstory. Then again, not all entities followed the cards. Look at all the personality differences between animated and comic Transformers from their original Bob Budiansky bios.

      @TenNoZeorymer72 Yeah, that part of Mr. Hama's background is why I believe so many Joes from the 80s had Small Arms Armorer listed as one of their specialties and Ordnance school in their training.

      True. Sadly, I couldn't make a character from my background...too much hush hush.
      And why didn't any of the anti-tank guys use a 20mm peashooter (like my favorite the Lahti L-39) with tungsten rounds (DU are bad for cleanup). I have always used one as my "sniper" rifle in Fallout 3, FNV, and Fallout 4. :D
