Thanks for creating this video!! Building my first SAB RAW 500 with Hobbywing 120, iKON2, and Spektrum NX8. This video is really helpful and great the a video you created almost a year ago is still helping heli pilots navigate this stuff.
@@westhobbiesrc8051- When you built the SAB RAW 500 with Hobbywing 120A, what "flight mode" do you set the ESC to? For this video looks like you are using "Helicopter (Elf Governor)". Thank You!
Thank You! I have been waiting for you to do this video for months now. You are the only one that have done this in this much detail. I now have to go back to my Helis and rework the wiring. You make the most informative, how to, heli videos out there. Keep it up. Thanks again.

It's always good to have these videos, had to do factory reset and one thing I missed out when going back through the config was selecting ESC type, "very annoying" went flying & no telemetry, got home checked everything and watching this reminded me I hadn't selected Hobbywing ESC 😁
I'm building a Steam AK420Pro right now and using the Hobbywing Platinum 80amp V5 ESC connected to a Brain2. Had some issues not getting telemetry and thought it may be a compatibility issue but on the V5 ESC they moved the P port to the left. It used to be in the middle. So after I adjusted my cable, it's working!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 It's my favorite heli so far. The head is massive. Only a few complaints on how things are but over all I really am loving it. Hoping to have a maiden this weekend, all depends on if I have everything 100% setup. Don't want to fly prematurely like my 470L where I flew with just an SRXL2 telemetry receiver and not an additional satellite, and lost signal and crashed. Then on the Goosky RS4 Venom, I had the GTS FBL backwards where the gyro would correct in the same direction the heli would move laterally which caused a take off crash on the maiden! So trying to take my time and do it by the book and based on what I learned from past mistakes. Really loving how this kit is and how everything is coming along. This is my 3rd recent build and everything is so much smoother than the first two. I will be making a video of the AK420 of my thoughts on how the build went and tips to look out for when others build it
I love the video, followed everything in it very helpful. I have one question the RPMs in my transmitter are extremely off. Have any idea as of why I have checked all of the ratios and they are correct.
When you was talking about the BEC power back up cable with the 2 plugs, you said you tie both up,it saves a port. Do you mean you put the single yellow into the red+brown plug?
Question: I have a 200amp Hobbywing HV OPTO ESC, on the package it says it's for a 700-800 size heli. Purchase it about 2 years ago not knowing a lot about electric helis. Now I just finished a Specter V1 700 heli and will mount the OPTO ESC in it along with an IKON FBL and a XNOVA motor and 12s lipo. I'm almost certain that all I need to do is plug the ESC Red, black, and white wire into throttle channel and the single wire into the governor port of the IKON. Then add a 2S lipo battery to power servos and FBL system. Just want to make sure I'm not going to smoke my ESC on maiden. Thoughts on OPTO ESCs.
Yes OPTO is no BEC in the ESC. So you will wire the ESC like normal, into CH1 and Yellow RPM wire into the GOV port and run a 2s Lipo for your RX/servos. You got the wiring right. So OPTO ESCs are great for helis that needed a big power load or like a speed heli but on any regular 700 a Regular Hobbywing ESC is better and less wiring and no second Lipo for servos. Years ago the BEC in the ESC where not strong enough to supply the power needed and that’s when OPTO ESC became popular. Now the BEC Are great.
Super Helpful!! Thanks for taking the time for these Videos. By the way, how to hook up a KONTRONIK KOSMIK 210 HV-I ESC to the Brain 2?? Supposedly the Telemetry is compatible. Any input or links would be greatly appreciated!
hi man . 1st thanks for the videos its helpful for us . 2nd do u have an idea about if ikon with hobbywing v4 esc if i can make the telemetry work or ikon dose not have a telemetry like ikon2? i have ikon2 with hobbywing v5 and i fallow your video and every thing work perfect .
So I have a HW 200 did everything you have shown. However my RPM is not showing on the transmitter which is a IX20. Everything else is, temp, voltage, etc. just after spooling up the RPM reads zero. This is on 2x HW200 ESCs. My 120 and 150 are showing the RPM just fine.
Hmm! That’s strange. Try going under the RPM telemetry page in the radio and re-find the packet and see if that fixes it. Is it showing RPM in the software?
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Yeah I tried rebinding as well and no luck. But I haven’t tied spooling up all the way yet. Just turning it on for a couple of seconds and switching hold back on. Just on the 120 and 150 it showed the RPM as soon as I hit throttle hold off. What do you mean rpm in the software? The ikon software?
Great video! I would have never come up with this. I thought we had to use the single rpm wire from the ESC. What is that good for? you haven't connected it to anyting. We only use the throttle wire and the special single cable from the P port... Edit: Correction: the rpm wire of the esc goes to the Governor input of the brain 2
The single rpm wire is for governor. So that will plug into the RPM port. If you’re not gonna use the FBL governor, you do not need it but you will lose your RPM telemetry so it is always good to just plug it in.
I calibrated first time, then by mistake I connected the 6s while the stick on the top position, then the calibration I think messed up, now every time I connect the battery doesn’t giving me the same tone counts I used to hear 4 tones now only 3 Is there away I can recalibrate the unit? How to factory reset? Thank you
Thanks brotha for the video! I have mine all set up correctly according to video and get Receiver volts and rpm but no main battery voltage. Bummer maybe because my radio is a DX9 Black series which is older than the NX ? I do get pack voltage on my airplanes though. Is there a place in the Brain software you select what telemetry you want or is it all always provided?
Thank you for watching! You should definitely get telemetry pack voltage on your DX9. I just set up a Kraken 580 with a hobbywing on a DX9 and got all of it. Try rebinding and seeing if it picks up that telemetry packet. You are running a SRXL2?
I just made up the same wire and hooked it up just like you did but my IX14 still isn't showing me the pack voltage, the only voltage it will give me is the BEC voltage.. I am using a Avian 130 esc with a Brain 2 on my RAW 580.. Any tips or anything? Thanks
Excuse if I’m wrong but Avian esc aren’t exactly like god made for the spektrum radios? I have seen in other creators videos that spektrum radios (well at least the new ones haha) have an already design page for avian esc telemetry. I don’t know if you also need to use smart batteries
