Damn a companion who isht edgy, skimpy or straight up sexy, just a normal companion with a great VA, this mod is too good to exist, excellent job!
"Hoover Darn" gave me a hearty chuckle
SAME it was just so cute!
I tried this mod on my most recent playthrough and was impressed with how well he fits into the vanilla game. I also liked that he wasnt op in combat.
Is that a problem with a lot of companion mods? I don't have a PC, so I wouldn't know.
@@hermos3602 from my experience with companion mods has been that either that they are useless compared to villna companions. Or they are a Swiss army knife that can 360 no scop god
@@hermos3602 It depends on the companion mod, some are more tailored to non combat centric roles which is cool if you want a more rpg like party where you have other characters with you who are good at skills you are not. But some can be op with end game weapons and steal my kills all the time lol.
He's one of two mod-added companions whose backstory ties directly into your own (the other being Delilah, Mojave MD). He's also one of the more wholesome mod-added companions, comparable to Hope Lies.
At the same time he's not jarringly wholesome, like Hope is; while Hope Lies feels almost hokey, Molerat seems more morally flexible; if you play an anti-hero (his 'Outlaw' option is probably meant to cover this) or even an outright villain, he seems to be written to roll with those choices.
He definitely feels more like a product of the wasteland, as well, although I actually experience the palpable sensation, at some points in a playthrough with him, that factions like the Great Khans and characters like Russell would be a bad influence on him, in a way that I don't with other 'wholesome' characters like the aforementioned Hope Lies or Delilah -- simply because their wholesomeness often comes across as two-dimensional, while Molerat feels more realistic in the sense that he regards you as a role model -- for good or ill.
The Robin to your Batman.
I like the younger brother/father figure vibes this has going for it. Not an angle you see that often.
His voice acting sounds like a normal person, which is missing from most fallout companions, across all the games. I think that's why i like sunny smiles so much, she sounds the most like a normal person.
I'm team Betsy the Brahmin from the uncut mod, for not saying anything and having a lot of inventory space. Plus she has a tendency to run away instead of getting herself killed.
I've never seen one like this before. I like the idea that you were travelling with someone and that you share a history. It goes against the usual RPG trope of a stranger in a new land. PCs rarely know NPCs at the start of RPGs, let alone companions. I'm sure there are exceptions (Geralt knows people no matter where he goes), but it's not something I've seen a lot of.
it's not even that lore breaking either. you just met up afew days prior to running into benny so you had not been traveling that long.
i would argue that it's an intentional design choice, rather than a trope; for RPGs where you are intended to fully create your character (Unlike Geralt, who is an already existing character with backstory) developers will usually give the player a vague backstory to allow players to imprint their own history, and therefore share the experience with their character as they learn things and meet people for the first time. You kind of see this in lonesome road, which uses the courier's previous actions in the divide as a plot device - one of the weaker parts of FNV imo, although admittedly still very entertaining (which this mod looks to be as well!)
Molerat and Hope Lies are the two mods that reached 'studio level'.
No love for Tim the Tumbleweed? The man the myth the legend? The fastest tumbler in the Mojave and btw can cure cancer?
Russel has always been my go-to companion for NV, I love the look of this kid though, can't wait to travel with him.
Maybe travel with both.
@@Commrade-DOGE I may. I just may.
Russell my beloved 😍
Russ, and especially Bradley. Two hard mother fuckers with great skills that take no shit.
Russell is an absolute staple in my load order, and I've played with Russell and Molerat both. Their characters gel surprisingly well, particularly in NCR-aligned locations, as each has been left with a bad taste in his mouth by the NCR in their respective pasts.
Man he feels like L4d2 Ellis and I love it.
That would be either Niner or Vincent Vincent.
I was just thinking.
It reminds me quite a bit of a mod for Skyrim that adds a companion named Lucien Flavius. During your adventures he gradually gains stats similar to how the player does and you can even train him and his stats. He also has an absolutely absurd number of events and locations he can comment on and is absolutely full of personality.
Mods like this, when done this well, breathe new life into a game you've played a thousand times. It reminds me of playing the game with a friend or partner who never has before. I'm playing it more for seeing their reactions and their story than I am for myself.
Great spotlight dude! Giving it a download noe
Joe Baskin did an amazing job voicing this character! It's some of the best, most believable, most realistic voice acting I've ever heard. Even though I don't use companion mods (I don't even use companions much in the base game), I couldn't not drop a comment and voice my support for the team who made this mod. I like how he's integrated into the DLCs. Mods that alter things about the DLC locations are few and far between.
Really can’t rave about the voice acting enough. Someguyseries has cool voice acting but I can’t help but feel so many characters sound like they’re in a movie. But Molerat genuinely feels like a real person. Perfect balance of acting while not over-acting
Looks very inspired by Inigo and Lucien from the Skyrim modding scene, nice to see something like those two made for NV.
I remember when this released on nexus. It got so popular so fast, it had an unofficial translated version in less that 2 days
Molerat is absolutely adorable
Im pretty sure any companion mod that isn't an uber-sexualized female companion, op companion that oneshots everything, or Willow is a good companion mod
That's definitely the keys to a good companion mod
Tie between this and Hope Lies for me, especially in terms of voice acting and quests. They probably could've been base game companions and I wouldn't have noticed
I liked Hope a lot. She had a clear personality, a quest arc and didn’t have too much or too little. The same amount of content as a vanilla companion is best imo
Underrated mod, the VA of this mod was taken by Bethesda i think as a professional VA or they took the modder for their development department, can't remember well
"Should I call it the Hoover Darn?" this mod looks so rad, lmao. Funny to me too that TriangleCity is the kinda guy to seem like he doesn't swear, but does sparsely and it always catches me off guard. Don't let the kid hear you!
I just love the idea of my courier having a little country kid following him around that I will die to protect kinda like how Joel is with Ellie
What I love about New Vegas, really love, is just the wide variety of companion mods from the silly to quirky to the serious and beyond. Molerat here hits a niche you don't really see with many other companions.
Downloaded this mod when it came out and it instantly became a staple in my load order. Great spotlight on a great mod, excellent work TriangleCity!
FINALLY MY BOI MOLERAT IS GETTING SOME LOVE! Been my favourite companion for months now
Also him having dialogue for the DLCs is insane! I can't wait to take him everywhere now!
"The Hoover Darn"
I'm going to be calling it that when I play FNV xD
These are great man. Keep it up. I've been starving for good New Vegas mod content recently
Looking forward to giving this a try my favorite companion mod has always been Niner but this looks amazing.
"Just like the "unstoppables huh?""
... and the unfuckables...
The best companion mod is Melissa Lewis Great Khan companion.
Reactive features; sits when you do, draws her gun when you do, strips down when swimming, and fidgets while standing around.
- Actively comments on the locations you visit, some of your actions, and some of the items you give her.
- NPC interaction; she'll flip off and cuss out NCR troops, some generic NPC's react to her presence, and she can banter with Veronica or Cass.
I love the being able to teach your companion if your skill is high enough !!
absolutely love your content bro, ill watch it for hours
Excellent work as always, Sir! o7
The mod that actually made me avoid being a murderous psychopath, can't have my heir to the Big M.T be a mass murderer like me, I hope that if my Courier ever dies, he'll continue to help the world begin again and rebuild itself.
Hey, thanks for finally covering this mod. The creator deserves the exposure for how much well-made content they‘re making for free.
And Molerat is still an on-going project! It‘s planned that he will have a complex interaction system with the vanilla companions, even more commentary in DLC areas, new companion equipment based on how you complete his initial quest, as well another major quest to expand his lore.
What I‘m most excited for is the evil path after a certain resolution in his quest. According to the author, Molerat‘s cheery demeanor will take a much more sinister turn if you influence him to take a darker path.
I think its going to be a really interesting experience that will add some spice to bad karma runs, and it fits Molerat‘s character as a naive, impressionable kid.
I saw this pop up many months back, but glossed over it thinking it'd be low quality.
Thanks for proving me wrong, looks great! Can't wait to fire up a new save with Molerat.
What a coincidence lol
I was checking out this follower yesterday for modlist i'm working on.
I’ve been using him as my main companion with FCO on my current run and I love him. His dialogue is so funny and he’s a nice counterbalance of innocence compared to the rest of the wastes. James Tyler has done and is continuing to do amazing work. Easily one of the best companions that has been made in all of New Vegas
Probablg the best voice acting I've ever heard in a mod.
I wish he had a story to himself, like a quest, he has holotapes you can listen to but they completely lack a story, of him going back and connecting with the other children mentioned
I should delight you to know that Molerat is only half finished. There are still tons of content -- both lore and functionalities -- that the author will intermittently implement. Even a new major quest is planned.
So there‘s still a lot to look forward to in Molerat‘s story.
loving these modding vids
Thanks bro 🖤🖤🖤
I don't know this kid but he is my brother.
My dream NV companion is FO4 Dogmeat. For all its flaws, the game absolutely nailed the “you and your dog against the world” vibe. Piper and Nick were great but it’s a lot more immersive for me to play open world RPGs with just a dog.
Rex is fine but man, Dogmeat instantly stole my heart in FO4.
Psychotic courier 6 and a cheerful little bro they're dependent on
Ohhhh, I remember this mod
Glad this mod is getting more exposure! NV is lacking companion mods in comparison to Skyrim.
Good ones, that is. Besides Molerat, there‘s only Russel, Niner, Eliza, Hope Lies, Vincent Vincent, and probably Draco who I can put in the A-list.
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 don't forget Charlie she is one of my favorites.
@@megamike15 I haven‘t gotten around to Depths of Depravity yet, but I‘ve heard only good things about it.
Oh my God he's the FNV version of Atreus from the newer God of Wars!
Love this. Very creative and works well with a lot of roleplay playthroughs.
I would say that the SomeGuy series has the best followers as well as the best story content in New Vegas mods but this one is up there some where among the ranks of the best.
So this is what its like to have a younger brother.
My favorite bit of dialouge is the "The Rat and his sidekick" bit because it feels so...natural. Like two brothers having a normal, dumb conversation about superhero names. And I always get a kick out of the "Deadeye sounds like a villain, call me Big Iron" choice. Its stupid, funny, and a great callback to the meme that essentially made New Vegas.
Molerat is prob my fav. Top notch
I normally have nothing to do with companions and hate games that force them on you but this looks really well done. I’m going to give this one a try on my Christmas holiday playthrough.
Reminds me a lot of Inigo for Skyrim
Well like Inigo from Skyrim molerat is gonna be in my every playthrough
So he's Willow, x10, without the "uwu wafiu" component. and even joins you in Dead Money? I'm starting a new playthrough tonight, not even finishing my current one.
Not since the new California mod. Has there been a companion that knew the player, before the prologue of the main game. That I can recall anyway.
Wish you could unlock a weapon with 1 shot which lets you tame any animal
i am really indifferent to companion mods in new vegas as besides russel, eliza and charlie i find them mostly not that great.
but this one seems interesting so i might try him out my next run.
I wonder how Mr. Molerat would react when I gove him power armor.
BTW what is ur load order?
Doesn't it break anything in the game? I will install it, willow companion mod was somewhat bugged with the weapons, they disappeared from your inventory, thanks for the tip
I didn't have any issues during my playthrough and was running 100+ other mods alongside it
@@TriangleCity - maybe it was some other mod that was causing the problem
Install a Tribe of Two on top of it and you've got your own "nuclear" (wink wink) family XDD
I’d imagine it doesn’t, but does anyone know if this would work with TTW?
With the way TTW reworks FNV, I doubt it would be compatible
Now all we need is a tutorial on how to get him to work
You just install, talk to him, use the option to hire him, then done.
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 you mean to tell me I've spent 3 days trying to get him to work and all I had to do was this
What do you mean you can have diversity of quality content? Your job is supossed to be inducing cronic depression with more cut content from our favorite game that the content from our favorite game God damm it!
Has anyone tried this mod with Tale of Two Wastelands? Would it work?
Pretty sure there's dialogue for F3 actually
@@TriangleCity Thanks!
i love molerat
They made him so cute why caN'T I PET HIM
Willow is still my favorite
Down bad
Down bad
We all know the best companion is vincent vincent
No argument there. I really wish the *incident* never happened, so Vincent could‘ve been developed instead of being scrapped.
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 they planned on revocieing him but nothing ever came of it.
who is he
IDK really...
Willow and Russell are still on the top in my opinion
Willow's VA's mic ruins it for me
Everyone Knows the Best NV companion is Fisto
Take off the mask, Willow.
I prefer to travel alone honestly.
250 lines of dialogue is very low. Are you sure you didn't mean like 2500 or something?
Let me try it: FIRST!
Nope, It still feels stupid
He seems like the male version of Willow in a few ways. A good alternative coomer companion!
Chris Hansen would like to have a word with you.
Ayo
While this one is good, nothing will ever beat Willow when it comes to NV companions.
If you‘re down bad, that is.
@tephra_ I'm curious, what do you like about the willow mod as a whole? I did a recent playthrough with her as my main companion and didn't find her all that good tbh. She doesn't fit into the games world, story or themes whatsoever. Her voice and personality is annoying, her quests are dumb that feels like it was originally a script of a kid's cartoon and most importantly, she has that "uwu waifu girlfriend simulator" thing going on which is cringy throughout. I could go on and on about the things I dislike about the mod(hello kitty necklace??? Dog biscuits??? Teddybears???) but I would like to hear what made you think that it's the best companion mod for the game.
Easy Pete is still the best companion mod.
I feel like it would trivialize the game unless it also limited him to 1% of his true power.
Peter Griffin Companion mod? 🤔
Difficult Pete as a companion would be cool.
"The Best New Vegas Companion Mod?"
This isn't Willow, so...
Best is subjective lol

Molerats VA and his name itself fit into NV, but the fact mod tries to imply that you have to have history with that guy is cringy and his personality itself is cringy, not lore breaking mind you, but still cringy
Also is it just me or Molerat sounds too young? Which is also kinda weird since all companions clearly sound adult while Molerat sort of sounds like a teen? Duno if it's a good idea to take a teen to fight Legion 😅
Doesn't look good to be honest.
You should.try it out.
might be one of the best companion mods, other companions are either all personality or are just able to anything or are your customizable doll
Molerat starts off with very little and you're about to cater him to your own gameplay style
Now if the Niner mod remake/update comes out it'll have some competition
