This is the video I need! Literally crying rn, only got 3 and a half months till GCSEs start and I have no clue how to get 7+for some subjects like maths, (currently getting grades 5s, 6s and some 9s in topics I'm confident in), I need that grade 7 and above desperately! especially for science and maths 😭
yea i really want an 8 in maths but im at a 6 right now but im going try practice those harder topics, we can do this !
@@ayodele5373 sameee
i got 103/240 that is crap!! I want a grade 7+ for maths desperately too 😭
@@szcretac that's still really good you can def get a grade 7 I believe in you ✊
@@ayodele5373 SAMEEE! For some reason I NEVER get above a 6+ in maths and my teacher wants me to get a 9
How to improve grades
Step 1: Know everything you have to cover (write down all my topics)
Step 2: understand the content (basically go through and learn everything to a level of solid understanding)
Step 3: Take mock exams seriously and use them as a reflection of your strengths and weaknesses
Step 4: use past papers and replicate exam conditions when doing the past papers
Step 5: ask for help
Step 6: test yourself to see if you truly understand
I feel like my school has rushed us into our mocks, like we've done BOTH rounds of them before February with literally 3 weeks in-between from the last ones. Like they expected us to memorise new topics, topics from year 9 and other irrelevant parts just for the mocks along with HOMEWORK. I hope I did okay but I can't help but feel like I did so bad. Ugh now that they're over I'm definitely going use all your tips and try doing my best in the summer!
I totally know how you feel! Mocks can be really stressful especially when they are thrown at you last minute. It's important to remember that whilst they are a reflection of what you currently know / your stress levels at the time, there is still a lot of time for you to progress before your real exams. You've got this!
lool i go to a prue and we did mocks last month wtff
literally for the mocks we've been doing paper 1 only , and these last mocks we've done paper 2 without even learning all the content💀 89 days till gcses start man im scared but imma use this video!!!
@@kuhinde trusttt I actually underestimated gcses, wish we had a couple more months 😭
Frrr also like ur jk pic
TYSM i got really bad grades in my last mock and got SCREAMED AT. Its been super hard especially since im struglging with depression by myself and revising 24/7, its just hard to feel good about anything to see a report card with 8s in two subjects and 4s and 5s in the rest
So glad you found this helpful! Be sure not to beat yourself up for bad mock grades, it's unfortunate but it is a step for improvement as I've said in this video. You've got this, keep going and I hope things get better for you ❤
same 😭
Update?
thank you so much for this! i'm in yr 10 and currently getting 5s and 6s but I really want to aim for 8s and 9s! i'll definitely incorporate more of these tips into my revision sessions
Girl I’m being generally being honest I took two pages of a4 paper of notes from this video.
I’m in year nine and our GCSEs have sort of started and I want to give myself a lot of preparations until year eleven and this video really helped a lot ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love you girl
I got a 3 in English lit for my end of year 10 mock, I worked so hard but my hand cramped up and I physically couldn’t finish, I got a high 4 in maths and 5-5 in both phys and bio. I was so disheartened by my English grade and I had no idea how I was going to turn it around. This video has opened my eyes and helped motivate me to work so hard over the summer thank you so much
For reference my grade in my English assessments were 5+ and 6s and I would have probably got that if it wasn’t for my exam technique however I still was sad

06:00 getting a bad grade in your mocks is far better than failing the actual exam
only discovered this channel today - but in my year 10 mocks, i had gotten grades of 4s in both english papers and maths papers, 5s in history, CS, 6 7 in science and an 8 in r.e.
from my recent mocks, i had gotten 7s in both english papers, 7 in history, 7 in CS, a 4 in maths (w/ one mark away from a 5, foundation btw), 66 in science and 5 in re (the timed conditions they had for r.e was wrong; that is not a joke).
i went from a U in Business to 6 (should've been a 9 smh)
i did way better in some subjects, some only a tad bit worse but i know where my errors are.
note: my highest target grade for subjects is a 5, with 4s in maths and science (i'm in higher for science).
i'm proud of it, and i'm still continuing my revision from the advice you've described in your videos from what i've seen.
i've got to thank past papers and past questions to help a lot with that ... and mindmaps. seriously without mindmaps i wouldn't be able to memorise and understand the content.
thanks for these videos, i will continue to watch them throughout these next 3 and a half months.

Needed this! I got a grade 4+ in Maths in my last mock after getting a U. And this time around because my Spanish teacher told me to focus more on Spanish & I felt like I was getting better in maths I didn't focus as much in revision and I got a 3.
I was really upset by it but this video gave me the push of reassurance that I can do much better and I do have the ability of getting a grade 6/7 in Maths if I revise it more often. Thanks so much Sola!☺
Don't you do foundation if you get less then 4... so the highest grade you can get is a 5?
@@vxon9613 I do higher, I never said I do foundation lol
@@mehzgirl5044 i never said you where doing higher or foundation. I was asking you a question whether you'll do foundation as you got a 3 on your mock. As in my school if you get anything under 3 you'll have to do foundation on your final exam. sorry for not being clear 😅
@@vxon9613 it’s okay and my teacher knows that I’m capable of doing much better so she’s keeping me in Higher tier for now
Dont feel subjected to teachers asking you to focus on a subject more as only you know what is important and if the situation escalates tell a member of staff that the Spanish teacher is bothering you as you shouldn’t be pressured to focus on a subject if you have other weakness that are more important. At the end of the day maths is a core subject that is needed to do A level and BTEC on a higher level
Thank you for doing this video. It will help me as a parent help my daughter ❤

Hi sola,
Your videos are like super awesome. Just a quick one, I try so hard to start revising properly but I end up not doing it and my physics grade, in particular, suffers. Is there any advice on how to start revising consistently and effectively? BTW your videos are soo helpful💜

Hii sola, I hope you are well and thank you so much for the videos. I really appreciate it, however I had one question. For the specifications, will I be able to find them all on the websites and will they all be up to date?
Im currently getting 5s and 6s on all my subjects. However, I was dissapointed in my last mock that i got a 6+ on Maths just like the previous one before that so I'm doing past papers on Maths rn so i can get a 7-8

hi! you said in another video that to improve your English you should write an essay each week and have your teacher grade it. My question was what should I write the essay about? A pastpaper question or a random topic? please let me know thank uu
You can make your own question on a random topic and use past paper questions as well! Either is helpful. Eventually you will run out of past paper questions so then you create a question based on a character or a theme. Hope this helps!
@@SmileWithSola thank you so much this is very useful!!
I am also not sure how to use spaced repetition for topics and subjects such as maths and combined science?
Its the same with any subject, write down all of topics in order of difficulty, do the topic and rate the study session red (hard), orange (medium), green (easy). If it was red, revise it again the next day. If it was orange, revise it in 3 days. If it was green, revise it in 1 week. You can increase the amount of days in between the more you revisit the topic or the more confident you are in the topic. Hope this helps.
your videos are so helpful thank you! do you think that using seneca is a good way to revise?
I would say it’s a nice way to make revision fun but it isn’t a really effective way to revise. Flashcards / blurting is better as it tests what you know rather than filling in the gaps and guessing
@@SmileWithSola thank you :) i use blurting alot for history and for testing my knowledge on the english lang anthology and it is working very well. :))

I've got a level 4 in English, yet I'm classed as gifted. Sure a level 4 is a pass, I just wasn't given the opportunities in my life to prove myself. I've got 5 GCSE's including all 3 core subjects, 3 B's, a level 4 and a merit in horticulture. I went to special needs placement I didn't want to go to, but I still have passed none the less. I re did my English 2 years ago and missed half my lessons due to covid lockdown restrictions, but I still got 55% of the marks regardless. When I re did my maths I only did 2 pieces of coarse work and only got a B because I accidently missed out the middle pages. I think I was 3 marks off an A al together, because of the mistake I made or at least very close to an A. Next year I'm going to do AS kevels in maths and science! Don't be disheartened with only a 4, a pass is a pass!!!!
me whos highest grade in maths was a 2 and i have my real exam next week T~T (im determined to get a grade 4 tho!)
can you use the revision guides as the specification guys?
I recently need help with keeping up grades. Coming home from school makes me feel really tired- i then have no energy to work. Any tips to help start early ??
I would recommend trying to revise before school because this is when you have more energy - even 30 mins of studying can make a difference for example in maths - do a quick corbett 5 a day. If you have the opportunity, try to go to a library or cafe before you go home, it will help distinguish rest from studying, and force you to be in an environment where people are productive and can see you. Hope this helps!

I am in the middle of mock week
when i do past papers theres some parts i don't understand. What should i do?
I got my mocks results back but they didn't let us see the paper or where we were losing marks or even the actual score out of 100 that we got - we just got the grade cuz it was "better for our mental health" (its not)
That sounds crazy! Definitely ask for your real mark because that's the only way you can improve! Otherwise there's like no point of doing mocks. Do practice papers by yourself as well and mark them so you can treat those as mocks and see where your weak spots are.
yes cognito videos>>>.
I just don't know how to break out of the grade 6 plateaue I've hit in maths. I'm top set maths and understand the work and do really well in end of topic tests, but when I get to exams I just fumble. I don't know why. its the most depressing thing in the world.

If you want to print it out physically only print where they talk about the topics in detail, not the front few pages and end pages. For example on the website Tes. Hope this helps!

You should do every past paper if not every past paper twice
If you're ready for them yearly past papers are the way to go! The topic papers are also really useful but yearly will be the most effective 👍🏼

I tried to search up information, but the more search the more getting confused plz help or make detail video 🙏

You will do compulsory English Language (2 exams for 1 gcse) and English Literature (2 exams for 1 gcse). You will do compulsory 1 give in Maths (3 papers) Yu will probably have to do science, but at my school you can choose Combines Science (6 papers for 2 GCSE’s) or Triple science (9 exams for 3 GCSE’s). Then everything else you can usually get to choose, but some schools make you do religious studies!
@Ava Jordan thankyou for details
Hey - I have a small question for you - I’ve been looking through gcse/igcse videos all over RUclips as I should be picking now for next year. My school does a combo of gcses and igcse and has a selection of compulsory gcses English: language & literature, combined science (you can pick triple science as an option), mathematics, religious studies and we are meant to pick 4 optional subjects (Art, Accounting, economics, geography, German,Greek, history, ict, music) I want to pursue being a mechanical engineer so I don’t actually need anything out of those other than triple science 😅. Is picking Triple science, computing, accounting, art or Triple science, computing, accounting, economics a better selection (with me being confident in both versions) as the first shows variation in skills while the latter shows a steady level in “logic-based” subjects? Or any other recommendations in 4 optional gcses as I am trying to keep an open mind.
Art takes up a lot of time and commitment so unless you really really enjoy it I would recommend to do the 2nd option so you can focus on getting good grades in all of your subjects. Your uni won't discriminate based on you not doing a creative subject in GCSE. Hope this helps!
its too late bro i missed all my tests 💀. i fucking took food tech cause i thought it would be easy but I literally burnt my chicken lasagna

Yes you can they’re only free for the first time than the next you have to pay since resitting GCSEs are expensive as hellllll hope this helped bro
@@generalligma6852 how much does it cost to re sit all your gcses? btw how do you know your actually allowed to re sit? let’s say i re sitted all my gcses and i passed am i allowed to do a levels even if i wasn’t in year 12 or year 13 anymore. i am thinking of a high paying part time job i’m gonna save up and re sit. i did foundation tier for science last year at year 11 so if i re sit science do i have to still do foundation tier or do i show that person that allowed me to re sit about my knowledge of foundation? Sorry if i’m asking too much questions. the thing is i had learning difficulties and i don’t get 8 hours of sleep to sharpen my brain and sometimes i don’t sleep at all

We've around 100 days till the exam - is that enough time to get the top grades???
Yep, this is about the same time that I got serious with my studying! It's hard work, but it's worth it in the end
@@SmileWithSola That's perfect, thank you!
3 months yet my exams have started
