I just started school and i’m really studying , studying harder than i’ve every studied before. It’s actually rewarding, which surprised me. It feels good to be doing hard work. and then when I go back on past exercises, they become easy which surprised me a lot more. especially in maths. :D I summarise my lessons on a sort of Queue card, and it helps me learn. Because the things I write in my notebook at school is a lot and I need to break it down to understand it and learn it
Nice to see small youtubers like us helping young people get through school and rough times. As someone who made the mistake of not studying enough for mocks, means allot your helping the youth.
I’m also sitting mocks in January. I do believe that everyone has their own way of revisions. If it works for you, then it’s not ‘wrong’. Personally, I take notes to recap the topic, then I do Seneca to recap further, before testing the knowledge with Flashcards and past paper questions. That works for me, and everyone has their own way.
I got mostly 9s in my GCSEs and only started proper revision a few days before each exam, all you have to do is pay attention in class and do lots of practice questions. If you want to do well in English, studying some philosophy wouldn’t hurt 😄
One more thing, revision sessions! My school offered after school sessions for nearly every subject and they are well worth going to and quite enjoyable. Even the most up tight teachers were up for a joke because they can rely on everyone to concentrate and theres a mutual understanding that people are there of their own choice
As someone who is now in a level and is doing criminology, knowing how to answer the history questions really help Knowing the differences between describing, explaining, evaluating and analysing is the difference between full marks and no marks It makes it easier in the beginning so there’s less stress on you
Udoka, I would disagree about not making extra notes. There's a lot more information you can find in CGP books, revision guides, Bitesize etc. I would only say oversimplify as much as possible and spend as little time on them but cover the content properly. Don't waste precious time making them look aesthetic because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter as long as they're effective. After that, usually you should move on to practice papers and just understand how to apply the topic.
I absolutely second this, I'm gonna paste an earlier comment of mine for any Y10's/11's/12's debating whether they should make extra notes. Keep in mind this 'unnecessary stuff' is what fills a surprising amount of the Kerboodle textbook - there is no harm in learning it but it does make note making more tedious and undesirable in general. Tbh, I disagree with the idea that you shouldn't make personal notes - be realistic, most of us in class are half taking in concepts - we spend most of the time scribbling down stuff rather than understanding it. All I did was not study until February, and I just started copying out notes from books and online resources. Managed to get As and A*s (7 and 8) because of it. Keep working hard. This will be sooo helpful in the future, especially for A Levels.
@@djbss6667 homie I used to get Cs and Ds because I was doing mindmaps and got bored of it. Note taking and adding colour to the page is good for visual learners like me. I'm not naturally smart in terms of academics nor did I use any other method (tried flashcards and quizzes in yr 10 and didn't work). I was thinking that note taking wouldn't work, but it actually did.
Relax, start revising seriously Around 3months before mocks (if your on target) and if your struggling then start revising 5 months beforehand For now just revise what you’ve learnt on your current day in school and take it easy
Then do 10 mins revision daily. Once you get used to that take it up to 20, the 30 and before you know it you’ll be revising for an hour daily like it’s nothing. Start off slow but be consistent, make it a habit.
Listening helps me so much. When I just read off a page I can’t remember at all, but being told it, everything just sinks in. When I learn something I either ask my teacher to explain it to me like a story, or my friends, or I even record myself doing a storytelling of the information. I did that for my biology mock, I remembered everything. When I got into that exam hall, all the questions were things I had revised and knew like the back of my hand. Everyone has different learning methods. So if you struggle with reading-learning, you should definitely try other formats.
Anyone else hoping that they keep our exams going in the summer? I just know I'm going to do better in the real exams than in the mocks. Just try and UNDERSTAND as much of the content as possible- preferrably exam practice, rather than rushing through endless notes and not memorisng anything. Try not to worry too much, and ensure you take time out for your mental health & wellbeing. I'd rather you try understanding 50% of the content properly rather than rushing everything and not knowing any of it.

Hey, relax gcse is not that important if worse comes to worse invest in real estate cheap or expensive do it your way. Get a decent job save up well and invest. You don’t need gcse to succeed
Try different revision techniques.if u have been getting really bad in ur exam but have been revising probably a sign the revision technique isn’t working or that u don’t understand that particular topic.we are all in the same boat don’t lose hope
hey, one thing that really helped me was doing practice papers with the mark-schemes to build confidence and also so you know the exact words the examiners are looking for - hope this helped!
I didn’t even get to sit my exams because of COVID-19, I just got my predicted grades/mock grades. I’m so glad I revised and actually tried in my mock exams 😅
I'm in year 10, and I've got end of half term assessments and I'm terrified but I'm determined to do well. I really want to do well in my maths and science but I don't have the printer to do practice questions, but from tomorrow I'm going to talk to my teachers for guidance. Great video, highly motivational 💪🏼
I also do religous studies, my teacher taught us a method to get full marks in a 12 marks question, A - point B - evidence B - back your evidence C - challenge your point (why would some people disagree) D- decision making (state whether your point is a weak or strong argument) it can be also used in a 5 marks question which would be : ABB AB I used to struggle doing the 12 mark question, I would not get more than 5 marks but using this method it helped me to pick more marks.
For a twelve marker to get full marks our teacher tells us to basically do a balanced argument which goes likes this: A paragraph supporting the statement- Point Evidence Explain Link back to point A paragraph that argues against the statement- Point Evidence Explain Link back to point And then finally a conclusion expressing you own opinions as well So basically two PEEL paragraphs and a conclusion
@@jungkookswinebottle643 that's what I do nd I get 12/12 And that helped me alot it brought my grade from a 1 to a 7 You maybe asking why a 1, well because my teacher was strict and didn't explain anything on her PowerPoint.
@@jungkookswinebottle643 oh dam we had to do two paragraphs supporting and two against and a conclusion for our 12 markers. If we we only did two supporting and 1 against we were limited to 10 marks and 9 without a conclusion
Hi, I’ve done my GCSEs (kinda - thanks COVID) and the one piece of advice that you mentioned but didn’t stress on.. you MUST mark your past papers.. this may seem obvious but some people just do the questions and think they’re done, but honestly, if you don’t go over them there isn’t much point doing them in the first place - don’t waste your time. Good luck :)
My technique (I am studying Biology at degree level): 1. Take notes in the class (I don't really use it for revision, unless it contains information I couldn't obtain through independent study). 2. Watch videos about the topic until you have a general idea (some concepts in biology are confusing so watching a video gives you a very broad understanding.) 3. Highlight the textbook as you read the relevant chapters (believe me there is a reasons for this, you'll see why) 4. Now take notes from the textbook, mainly from the highlighted areas (do it digitally). However, ensure the notes are cohesive and make sense. This allows your brain to understand the topic and interpret it. 5. make key words of your notes in bold and red. 6. When it comes to revising, reread notes. The bold words will help you pickout key information. 7. At the same time, do lots of practice questions.
I'm going into year 11 this September and this video really helped me with revision strategies (especially for science) and all my other lessons- thank you very much :)))
Great video, really well laid out. To the other people watching, remember that these things work for him but there's so many ways you can adapt what he does to work for you. The apps and websites he suggests are definitely good to take the boredom out of revision though, use them

Good luck in your Mocks, Udoka!

It’s actually rewarding, which surprised me.
It feels good to be doing hard work.
and then when I go back on past exercises, they become easy which surprised me a lot more.
especially in maths.

I summarise my lessons on a sort of Queue card, and it helps me learn.
Because the things I write in my notebook at school is a lot and I need to break it down to understand it and learn it
I love how these tips aren’t only for gcse but for secondary exams I’m general. Really helpful :)

If you want to do well in English, studying some philosophy wouldn’t hurt 😄
yeah totally agree with this
what philosophy are you talking about because i’m struggling with english atm
hi have u got any 2019 papers?
One more thing, revision sessions! My school offered after school sessions for nearly every subject and they are well worth going to and quite enjoyable. Even the most up tight teachers were up for a joke because they can rely on everyone to concentrate and theres a mutual understanding that people are there of their own choice
As someone who is now in a level and is doing criminology, knowing how to answer the history questions really help
Knowing the differences between describing, explaining, evaluating and analysing is the difference between full marks and no marks
It makes it easier in the beginning so there’s less stress on you
Udoka, I would disagree about not making extra notes.
I completely agree, notes work best for me.
Exactly! After making these notes, you can recall them by covering them and blurting as much as you can remember.
@@tahmidhossan9757 I don't personally use blurting but different techniques work for different people.
I absolutely second this, I'm gonna paste an earlier comment of mine for any Y10's/11's/12's debating whether they should make extra notes.
I'm in Year 13, and I've found that I need notes to do well. I made comprehensive notes at GCSE (for triple science and comp sci at least) using a combination of the CGP guides, Kerboodle textbooks and ABOVE ALL the specification. If you want to avoid the 'copying the textbook', I suggest keeping a printout of the spec or always pulling it up when making notes - it lets you know exactly what the textbooks may have missed or more likely the unnecessary details it includes.
Those notes you take in class will mean little to you even if you stare at them at home - further research is needed to make it sink in unless your teachers are exceptional or you are a genius. Still, taking the time to tune your class notes according to the spec might be a better compromise if you don't like the idea of starting from scratch.
For context, I got straight 8's and 9's at GCSE, with 9's in all the sciences, and I'm predicted 3 A*s at A level (Maths chem bio).
Edit: Make sure you hand write ALL your notes - it is scientifically proven that hand written notes are more effective for long term memory and exam performance.

Relax, start revising seriously Around 3months before mocks (if your on target) and if your struggling then start revising 5 months beforehand
For now just revise what you’ve learnt on your current day in school and take it easy
"history is soo interesting, apart from Elizabeth", I felt that. I dreaded the topic
True
I also do religous studies, my teacher taught us a method to get full marks in a 12 marks question,
A - point
B - evidence
B - back your evidence
C - challenge your point (why would some people disagree)
D- decision making (state whether your point is a weak or strong argument)
it can be also used in a 5 marks question which would be : ABB AB
I used to struggle doing the 12 mark question, I would not get more than 5 marks but using this method it helped me to pick more marks.
For a twelve marker to get full marks our teacher tells us to basically do a balanced argument which goes likes this:
A paragraph supporting the statement-
Point
Evidence
Explain
Link back to point
A paragraph that argues against the statement-
Point
Evidence
Explain
Link back to point
And then finally a conclusion expressing you own opinions as well
So basically two PEEL paragraphs and a conclusion
@@jungkookswinebottle643 that's what I do nd I get 12/12

Hi, I’ve done my GCSEs (kinda - thanks COVID) and the one piece of advice that you mentioned but didn’t stress on.. you MUST mark your past papers.. this may seem obvious but some people just do the questions and think they’re done, but honestly, if you don’t go over them there isn’t much point doing them in the first place - don’t waste your time. Good luck :)

My technique (I am studying Biology at degree level):
1. Take notes in the class (I don't really use it for revision, unless it contains information I couldn't obtain through independent study).
2. Watch videos about the topic until you have a general idea (some concepts in biology are confusing so watching a video gives you a very broad understanding.)
3. Highlight the textbook as you read the relevant chapters (believe me there is a reasons for this, you'll see why)
I've been bricking myself but this makes it so much easier thanks bro. Earned a sub. Btw good luck everyone.
