Photographer Annette McNamara believes everyone deserves to hear "I see you, you are beautiful, you are strong, and you are loved." In 2020, she transformed a 40’ school bus into a tiny home and mobile photo studio. Over 526 days, Annette traveled 35,000 miles solo, capturing 1500 portraits of resilience across the US and Canada, building relationships and sharing stories from all walks of life.

Outside looks plain but inside is the nicest build I've seen.
I kind of like it that way. I feel a little safer when people think oh that's just a school bus...they have no idea the magic that is on the inside! And I can blend in a lot of industrial places because no one knows :)
I love that about this bus. It's like opening a surprise package wrapped in plain paper, and hopefully deters others who think it may contain valuables. It's as priceless as the mission she pursues.

What is the mechanism that allows the Murphy bed to raise and lower? How was it constructed? This is THE BEST Murphy bed I’ve seen!
that is a great question that even I cannot answer. I drew it on a piece of paper and my friend made it happen. They are a form of shock that can hold 500 lbs. It did fall off the wall once, but we added more screws so hopefully that doesn't happen again!

This bus build is amazing 👏! The tool boxes are a great idea, too. At a thrift store, I found a toolbox half the size of the vanity toolbox in this video. I removed the shelf, and my butane stove fits perfectly. I do all my cooking in it, using the metal door as my prep space when I lay it horizontally. Cooking in a self-contained metal enclosure inside any kind of vehicle is the safest way to close off any errant flame getting out of control. Way safer than all these van builds nowadays with so much wood surrounding the stoves and curtains flying nearby in the breeze. Btw, that Murphy bed is so stealth hidden behind that back wall👌!

Trust me see is not money rich, but she is humanity and compassion wealthy.
I can 100% say I am not rich. This came with a lot of hard work, a lot of manifesting, a lot of help, and doing what I love. Serving others brought a lot of really cool opportunities my way, but I am still working on a budget and trying to find the way financially as well.

I did a lot of it myself. But also had several friends and my dad help do a lot of it as well. I designed everything and they helped me bring it to life. I would never take credit to building it all myself... it definitely was a group effort :)

Great ideas! I have often wondered why more people don't use the tool chests for integration into their builds. The murphy style bed design allowing so much versatile space is also great! Sounds like a great organization to help people!

I like the retractable line to use as a divider. I was thinking of mounting one low outside my van to use as a dog lead for my little dog 🤷🏻♀️🤔👍🚙🏕
I don't know if it would be strong enough for that. But what I use for my dog outside is a D-Ring and a leash lead. Works great.

I use T-mobile home for wifi which connects to the Ring Cameras. So I can access. them from anywhere as long as I have service and they are charged.

Where do you park and do business?
Literally EVERYWHERE. Overnight parking can be a challenge, but I use apps like Harvest Host and iOverlander. The events range from spontaneous to planned events.
Very nice. What is the MPGs? I have a 29ft class C - 12,000 lbs - 460 Ford gas, and I am thinking I get around a little over 5-ish MPG. is that NOT GOOD?
i have a 29’ school bus - don’t know the gross weight but it’s heavy, with lots of interior wood, 60 gallon fuel tank and 40 gallon water tank! cat c-7 diesel engine gets around 10-12mpg on level roads, about 4mpg going uphill… but 254mpg going downhill! 😂
My bus weighs 26,000 lbs and I get on average 8-9 mpg...not included inclines of course

Hi,I am looking for some information from those on the road. I am getting ready to hit the road soon in my on a bus conversion. I have left a big vacant spot in the main living area for what I was planning to be a hydroponic vegetable garden to have fresh vegies on the road. But I had a person that has a big 5th wheel tell me not to do it, some states require inspections of all travel trailers and motorhomes at state lines and will not let plants to be brought into the state. Is this true? If so I have lots of options as to what I could put in that space.
I'm not a huge plant person, but I do know there have been checkpoints asking about plants on board.
Q. How did you get the school bus? And do you need special drivers license to drive it? Thank you God bless you Maranatha
I bought it in Cookeville, TN from a used car lot. No special license needed when you take out all of the seats and register it as a private vehicle and not commercial. I do think there are a few states that require an air break endorsement, but I have not had any problems.
Can you tell me what kind of refrigerator she has?
The small one is a Magic Chef, large one is a Frigidaire
What insurance company do skoolies use? Is it insured as an RV? What is it registered as?
Most insurance companies will do a bus as long as you register it as an RV. Otherwise, it's a commercial vehicle, and that's a whole 'nother kettle of rotted fish.
I use Progressive for RV insurance
Where do you park your bus?
All over! :) Harvest Hosts, Walmart, Cabela's, Bass pro, friend's streets and driveways, and sometimes even campgrounds.
🤔what kind of fuel Mileage with that flat front bus?
about 8-9 mpg
What's a "pour over". My wife is very interested.
Just heating water on the stove and then instead of plugging in the coffee maker, just pouring the hot water over the coffee grounds and letting it drip through. No electric needed.

Nope! They're actually pretty light when empty. The ones I used I could lift into the bus myself.
