Owners manual on the 2007 Honda Civic also says that the malfunction light could just be the gas cap not put back on securely. And that after you put it back on with at least, a few clicks, it may still take a few days for that malfunction light to go out. Anyhow, I took mine to my shop and they did the scan and did also get code P0128. I resecured the gas cap, and told her to clear the code, I’ll see if the malfunction light comes on again. Hoping I didn’t make a mistake by clearing the code out. If there is a problem with the thermostat or one of the sensors, then the P0128 malfunction light will come on again soon, right? Because I drove over the car all day today and the light never came back on.

I got a p0128....changed the thermostat and 2 weeks later it came back. I possibly got a bad thermostat.....but if the code is based on taking time to reach operating temp why would I park it with no light and the light comes on the next day as soon as I start the car? I cleared the code earlier today and the light has stayed off and I used a basic scanner and app and the temp while out for a drive reported up to 212....but it only reads sensor 1 from what I can tell.

Will it hurt the motor if thermostat stays open all the time? I’m in a hot climate(Florida).
