I think John is pretty much the greatest artist there was, but listen to the original by Jimmy Cliff. It's better. This is more in the style of the version Nilsson did which is also a far cry from the original.
I love Lennon so of course enjoyed it. Jimmy Cliff's original will always be the best. I've come to a conclusion that it was recorded during 1974, because John and Harry Nilsson worked on the cover during that year (Pussy Cats album). Sorry for the lack of information
