Thank you Mr Cliff, for open my eyes, or more correct, my ears and my heart to your music and the music of Jamaica. Now it´s 2024 and this song still make a huge impact on me! 67, Indian, recently bereft of wife - pal - colleague, after 45 years together. Loved this man (Jimmy Cliff) among so many genius' of our time - fifties and sixties and seventies and eighties and nineties and now a new millennium....what would we have done, where gone, turned to whom if our music had just slipped past us?
    Good will to all
And now instead, a new stand by all; that is kind & full of love and friendship; strength & the conquest of fear .... like a full circle ... from campus to home to city squares...
From philarmonic rehersals to Flash.....perhaps we shall overcome.
    Again.

Over time, this has become one of my top 5 vocal performances by anyone, anytime, in any context. I love the fact that Dave, Jools, and Gilson, all applaud at the end too - I don't remember Gilson standing up for anyone else. They got it. This was one of those once in a million moments. The small flaws make it all the better.

There are artists that have a genre that is popular, a hit that evokes a following, and remain a strong concert audience draw, and the audience genuinely love the song/music , most of these fans are not musically trained, don't understand the talent ranges of vocal artists - they simply recognize the music resonates a pleasing sound to their ear - and they are correct,
HOWEVER, occasionally the artist is beyond a mention on a top 10, they are genius level gifted, they can sing in superior quality, range, multiple genres -
      They are true Stars.
This man is one of those exceptional vocal artists - and although he may have not reached the level of international name recognition outside his Genesee of music like a Michael Jackson, Elvis, or Sinatra - he is most definitely that level of talent -
It's a fact that the true talents of Star Quality often don't reach the recognition level they deserve, and many have no desire to for the obvious trade-offs it requires -
I guarantee 8f Sinatra were listening to this man today or 20 years ago, he would be the first to acknowledge his vast credibility and talent.
I have a bit of amazement each time I listen to his work - he is most definitely a Star's Star.

A beautiful rendition by Jimmy Cliff aka James Chambers of his classic song: " Many Rivers To Cross "
This is just one of those song's you can't stop listening to & singing along to & rarely does an artist or band do a cover that is equal to the original but UB40 & their cover version is the best I've heard but that's just my opinion...
Jimmy wrote this song " Many Rivers to Cross" in 1969 & it's as powerful now as it was then...
It has since been recorded by many musicians, including Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, Joe Cocker, Percy Sledge, Little Milton, Desmond Dekker, UB40, Cher, The Brand New Heavies, Eric Burdon & The Animals, The Walker Brothers, Marcia Hines, Toni Childs, Oleta Adams, Linda Ronstadt, Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, Chris Pierce, Arthur Lee and Jimmy Barnes...
Now that's a lot of love & inspiration for 1 song & why I fell in love with music , predominantly , World Music...
A Thank You has to go to Joel's Holland who has been keeping music alive on his show " Later With Jools Holland " & has had all types of genres & song's sung in many languages on his show & has managed to help those to reach an audience after being on his show & for me it's the only great music based programme left in this time were the Music Industry is all but gone but we , like Jool's Show , have to keep it alive by playing it & passing it on to the next generation & then they'll pass it on & on...
In light of this still ongoing coronavirus and it's variants stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world...
    .....

Many ppl will not know because of his political views his career here in america never materialized. What wonderful music you are only now discovering. his music was hard to find in the 70's and 80's. This song in particular is quite powerful!
