And The Animals. I needed many years to comprehend that Many Rivers wasn't an Eric Burdon song; or Please, send me someone to love was a Percy Mayfield one.
As a kid back in 1975 or 1976 I saw the movie "The harder they come" and I bought the soundtrack, still have it! But this is the best version I have ever heard! Thank you Mr Cliff, for open my eyes, or more correct, my ears and my heart to your music and the music of Jamaica. Now it´s 2024 and this song still make a huge impact on me! And by the comments I understand that I´m not alone!
Quando la sentii la prima volta mi entrò dentro, e non sapevo il signficato delle parole, però dicevo agli amici di quel tempo: mettetela al mio funerale quando sarà.
The Lord himself is singing through this man. Oh what a mighty mighty voice Mr. Cliff. It must have been unbelievable to hear live in that studio. Goosebumps and chills down the spine.
67, Indian, recently bereft of wife - pal - colleague, after 45 years together. Loved this man (Jimmy Cliff) among so many genius' of our time - fifties and sixties and seventies and eighties and nineties and now a new millennium....what would we have done, where gone, turned to whom if our music had just slipped past us? Good will to all And now instead, a new stand by all; that is kind & full of love and friendship; strength & the conquest of fear .... like a full circle ... from campus to home to city squares... From philarmonic rehersals to Flash.....perhaps we shall overcome. Again.
Over time, this has become one of my top 5 vocal performances by anyone, anytime, in any context. I love the fact that Dave, Jools, and Gilson, all applaud at the end too - I don't remember Gilson standing up for anyone else. They got it. This was one of those once in a million moments. The small flaws make it all the better.
