man their crowds got a lot bigger very fast, a year before this there were a few hundred and here they're playing to glastonbury. Matt just casually walks out in front of glastonbury and says "check out this riff!" brilliant.
I think this was early in the gig, where they'd essentially played two "new" songs (Yes Please and Darkshines) to begin, then they start doing this. Perhaps people had seen enough, though at Glastonbury you do often get people moving from stage to stage to catch the bands they like.
5 years later i am here to say that what you said makes sense since they played fury and other absolution songs at the montreux jazz festival in like 2002 (i know, jazzy)
He made a finger pointing move and people just sit there and probably condemned him. Now today I know some people who can die to see the same move... Warner Bros changes everything...
I just don't understand how anyone can hate on this man. He's funny, charming, witty, not to mention multi-talented - what's not to love about Matt Bellamy?
I love this video and have watched it so many times! I pretty much signed up to RUclips to comment on it. It had to be the first video on watched on my account too.
@5christie John paul Jones does Bass guitar, Guitar, recorder, koto, lap steel guitar, continuum, autoharp, ukulele, clavinet, sitar, keyboards, keytar, mandolin, cello, vocals, organ, mellotron, and violin... Although, I love both of them. :)
@CantonezSpere That is indeed a Les Paul Double Cut. Or it could even be a LP DC lite. I can remember either way at the time but yeah it is a Les Paul. And he still has a few LP's even now.
@Mudstep5956 Actually, he's played several variations on this riff before. The part at around :30 is what he made up on the spot. And it's fucking beautiful.
Hes hammering on and putting it up at least an octave or two up, at 0.30, Thats why it "sustains" and at those volumes the noise would act on the guitar strings. before and after its down an octave and a riff on the top string
@Simstar911 Obviously not a guitarist haha ;) like the other people said. Whammy pedal. Changes the pitch of the note played pre-set amounts. Very good fun. Like in the solo in 'Killing in the name'
"Check out this riff!" Love how Matt just randomly said it like that!
I love how Matt ends all his songs on open strings
0:35 my face when a hard math question is on the board 😂
You just know matt's out his fucking mind
Matthew Brady how?
Jay Way you just know
Invalide_Account nah seems normall to me
0:31 on is one of the most awkward moments I have ever seen on a live performance of ANY band. That is pure GOLD!
Kind of haha. Matt looked so skinny he seemed sick right?

Yes, that's possible, I'm a huge fan of Marmozets
0:31 chris and dom: "matt, how much Chaos do you want to do during the gig??"

0:30 Clint Eastwood's face
Yes

0:25 Half the crowd start leaving
They were falling with the crowd.........
@@mattyallcock6613 No they were leaving, they weren't too keen on the riff; fickle lot
Probably because of Matt pointing them to get out lmao
I think this was early in the gig, where they'd essentially played two "new" songs (Yes Please and Darkshines) to begin, then they start doing this. Perhaps people had seen enough, though at Glastonbury you do often get people moving from stage to stage to catch the bands they like.

I love this video and have watched it so many times! I pretty much signed up to RUclips to comment on it. It had to be the first video on watched on my account too.

The Shuffle Dance ;)
"Hey Check Out This Riff" XD Matt you sir are a legend
The most simplest riff always sounds ultra kickass when Bellamy dances the way he does
@CantonezSpere That is indeed a Les Paul Double Cut. Or it could even be a LP DC lite. I can remember either way at the time but yeah it is a Les Paul. And he still has a few LP's even now.
awesome much
That boy's got humor, MUSE ROCKS!
"Check out this riff!" Awesome
That sounds amazing.
Hahaha thats a RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE riff!!! Matthew Bellamy's biggest inspiration to his music and guitar playing.
awesome
Fucking hot.
A reminder of why I loved this man so much.
At the start of the video they put down their drinks in perfect synchronization.
what a king!
@Mudstep5956 Actually, he's played several variations on this riff before. The part at around :30 is what he made up on the spot.
And it's fucking beautiful.
i love this riff
"check out this riff" hahaha
yea and hyper music has a great drum line and bass
that was so awesome.
@guitarman0413 You don't know what you're talking about. The other guy's right. It's a whammy --->pedal
The fucking funniest thing I ve ever seen.
"Check out this riff" classic.
Todo un lokillo Matt xd
Legendary
apparently the thing next to his bridge is a peice of a broken bass fretboard just taped on
I barely knew Matt was this hilarious back then.
Each day I'm getting more obssesed with this man! :D Hahaha They're the best!!!
This riff is not called Minimum- that was a instrumental b-side off the Muscle Museum EP:)
He..... Is......... AWESOME......
MUSE - fury riff (Glastonbury 2000)*
Hes hammering on and putting it up at least an octave or two up, at 0.30, Thats why it "sustains" and at those volumes the noise would act on the guitar strings.
before and after its down an octave and a riff on the top string
@Simstar911 Obviously not a guitarist haha ;) like the other people said. Whammy pedal. Changes the pitch of the note played pre-set amounts. Very good fun. Like in the solo in 'Killing in the name'
the first bit sounded cool, but then the pitch shifter was just fucking hilarious!
I couldn't agree more.
