  • #ilovervlife #RVgasStuts #RVupgrades Replacing RV bed gas struts are a relatively easy task. These bed struts go bad after a few years of use or are needed when bedding is replaced with a heavier mattress. In our case, we replaced our mattress with a Brooklyn Bedding Signature series and along with the added comfort, increased the weight by two and half times. This overloaded the existing gas struts and it was difficult to raise the bed for storage access and the bed would not stay in the raised position. The fix is very easy and cost us around $20.

Good job Jerry. Helpful tip. Most would not think of the struts after replacing the mattress.

Hidden item are all way easy to forget thanks for the reminder. Many times, as I get older a simple job becomes a big, long problem.

My first inquiry hit brought this video which addressed exactly my situation. I just replaced a manufacturer RV mattress with a Brooklyn Bedding mattress. Now the OEM lift struts under the mattress won't hold the weight of the new mattress. Now the plan now is to order replacement struts exactly same as shown in video.

Another tip, if the strut will not collapse put it in the refrigerator for a few minutes. The gas will shrink and wallah it will collapse very easily. Also some of those only operate properly in one position and they should be marked because of the oil flow.

Thank you, Jerry....very much! We also bought a new mattress after a weekend on the mattress (if you can call it that) when we purchased our fifth wheel. Didn't think about replacing the struts because we assumed we didn't have any since it was so hard to lift with the new mattress. Went under the bed to measure for new struts and viola! there they were - 60 lbs. We called the mfg and asked for advice and purchased 100 lb struts. After watching your video, it took all of 5 minutes (or less) to get the job done. Now I can lift the bed without calling for assistance and it stays up! Again, thank you so much!! Glad we chose your video to watch!

Our bed is a stinker to raise too, after we added a larger mattress .The shocks are further toward the pillows, we have more space than yours. I was unsure as to what weight struts i was to use. I believe it has been settled with your Vid. Thank you. And you made me laff with your narrative.. cheers Dog

perfect timing for this video. We added a foam topper to out bed and not have a super hard time getting to the storage. This is on my to do list when we open up the trailer in the spring. Thanks for continuing to share your knowledge.

Good morning Jerry , Big Ben 🇨🇦🐴🙂 ,i think your thinking wrong ...I took a 2×2 piece of wood and glued and air nailed across rear part of bottom compartment ,then took out a few screws out of end panel and made a handle and made it like a tongue and groove hinge on one side handle on other end and put a 2×4 to hold up back board 1/2 " and remove and install rear panel easily.. works great no more breaking back to get under bed. 👍🐴🙂🇨🇦 fans.

Thanks Jerry, just traded for a newer Montana and we use a Brooklyn mattress also. So I'll be looking at the struts for added support. Great video at the right time.👍

I found the clips kind of slide off. Also new ones only had to push on, clips don't have to remove. I tried a couple different pound struts before I found the correct one.
In the part number there is a "-60" that is the amount of pounds lift. Easy peasy replacement.
