actually Red Sonja states a few times in the comics that she prefers little armor because she is more agile with it, she choses agility and freedom of movement over armor, so youre right, its more effective that way
Robert E. Howard's "The Sword Woman" is a good read. The edition that I have is 1977, copyrighted by Glen Lord and published by Zebra Science Fantasy for those who may wish a hard copy instead of a PDF or ebook. It is too bad there weren't more stories about this version. That said, I do own most of the Red Sonja books from the 1970s Marvel Comics and enjoyed them.
I love fantasy woman warriors and barbarians, Red Sonja is one of them , of course there Belit and Valeria, can’t think of other women, but you all know………………⚔️⚔️🤘🤘
I don't trust the current state of the entertainment industry to do this character justice. You know they will just turn it into another woke dumpster fire that will piss off the fans they claim to be making the show for. We're all better off for no such mess of this character to be made.
It's too late mj basset is coming out with a red Sonja movie and it will focus on strong empowered women, it will be woke. Maltida Lutz is playing the character
In January this year (2024), LEGO released a minifigure that was almost certainly inspired by Brigitte Nielsen’s portrayal of the character. She wasn’t officially called ‘Red Sonja’ but fantasy fans spontaneously started calling the minifigure that as soon as images of it leaked. A cool minifigure it is, too 😎
Nice to point out that Sonja is a Roy Thomas creation who is only based on one of Howard's characters. Conan was huge before the movie though. The movie was made to take advantage of the popularity of the character that had been built by Thomas at Marvel and by the Decamp-edited Ace/Lancer books with the Frazetta covers. The move detracted from the popularity that had already been built.
Great video! I have been meaning to pick up the Red Sonja series. I may try now! Also, that map you used at 4:13, where did you find it? It is so detailed!
nice video, love red sonja. i think with her fighting skills she also got more strenght and agility from the godess Scathach, not in a "super" way, but she is a bit stronger and faster than a normal human. a movie is allready shot and in post production with no release date yet.
Her physical abilities vary from writer to writer. There are stories where she’s basically a normal woman in attributes and can be quite easily overpowered but there are other stories where she can lift a man by the throat one-handed or literally punch through a brick wall. Generally she’s a little faster but somewhat weaker than Conan but still physically stronger than the vast majority of men
@@nbaldwin45 thanks for clarification. im reading now the old Red Sonja storys from Roy Thomas/ Frank Thorne, and there i feel she is definitely stronger than a normal human
@@AutomanicJackthere was an old Marvel story where she won the Hyborian equivalent of the Olympic Games in every event and in another story, she lifted a man over her head with one hand and smashed him against a mast hard enough to knock him out At Dynamite though, sone writers show her to be even stronger. Writer Amy Chu said that Sonja was as strong as six men and Jordie Bellaire’s Sonja was almost as strong and fast as Vampirella and could boot down a door made of steel a foot thick

Your video sounds like you are completely unaware of the Red Sonja movie that has been in production by Dynamite comics since about 2012 and is almost ready for release. This movie is had a trailer presented at last years San Diego Comicon and has fueled quite a bit of controversy. Red Sonja is an upcoming American sword and sorcery film directed by M. J. Bassett and written by Tasha Huo and M.J. Bassett,[2] based on the character of the same name.[3][4] The film stars Matilda Lutz as the title character, alongside Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Rhona Mitra, and Veronica Ferres. The film is set to be theatrically released in 2024. ( appears to be delayed) Matilda Lutz as Red Sonja Wallis Day as Annisia[6] Robert Sheehan as Dragan[7] Michael Bisping as Hawk Martyn Ford as General Karlak Eliza Matengu as Amarak Veronica Ferres as Ashera and the mother of Red Sonja Katrina Durden as Saevus[8] Manal El-Feitury as Ayala[9] Additionally, Rhona Mitra, Kate Nichols, and Danica Davis were cast in undisclosed roles.[10]
I thought Red Sonja was a great move and saw it twice in a row at the theater. I had loved the Conan stories and comics for years before the Schwarzenegger movies came out, but I was disappointed with Dino De Laurentiis vision of Conan. Robert E. Howard's Conan didn't grow up as a slave pushing a grinding wheel, and would have killed many of Thulsa Doom's stooges if they had attempted to capture him when he snuck into Doom's fortress. I enjoyed Red Sonja and the Jason Momoa Conan a lot more. I believe Roy Thomas should have kept Robert E. Howard's original spelling of Sonya - a truly beautiful name.
I'm more in line with Krenkel's Red Sonja's design. He depicted her far more realistic than the metal bikini. Sonja hails from Hyrkania and that is based on Mongolia. Krenkels design does that more credit. Don't get me wrong. I'm into sexy Red Sonja as any man, but I find the Krenkel design much more realistic.
Agreed! I don't need the chainmail bikini, but it adds a pulpy charme. But I also would dig a more realistic Red Sonja in tattered chainmail or whatever.
Nice video :) I honestly think one of the reasons she never reached the popularity of Conan and others is because of her origin. Or at least that's why I found her the least interesting of the women in this genre. Instead of actually gaining her abilities through work and learning like Conan and others, she's gifted by a goddess and has no real weakness associated with it, which I don't think works very well for protagonists in this genre. So her biggest strengths were red hair and hotness, not enough to sustain interest in the character. I also find Valeria and Beilit much more interesting characters, they are heroines who really deserved their position and status, including respect, it wasn't just given to them because something terrible happened to them. Just as she is a somewhat uninteresting female archetype today. An abused woman who thereby gains the strength to move in a man's world. Pretty lazy cliché and the origin just hasn't aged well enough and isn't going to win many new fans.
Really a chainmail bikini, when I was a kid I watch this and thought that was kind of weird, Even Conan or a chainmail vest either she's got an invisible shield where everybody's a horrible shot. Lol let's hear it for sexism in science fantasy on the other hand there's more than one time Conan or only a loin cloth lol
Mj basset the transgender director who directed Solomon Kane is directing a red Sonja movie that is due for release this year, it's said to focus on women empowerment and it will be woke and having nothing to do with the original source material,Matilda Lutz is playing the character

Red Sonya is such a cool character and i just love seeing red heads who can kick butt.
Absolutly!
Red Sonja and Vampirella were my childhood female heroines..boys may have had their Conan, but this budding nerdy girl had Sonja
We are so happy to have you on board here!
Red Sonja deserves a nice gory action game. Complete with violent finishers on enemies and bosses. :D
Agreed!
The skimpier the armour the more affective it is

Even if they brought her back to the big screen they would have her covered up & water down her character.
Red Sonja is a great character. One of the greatest fictional female fantasy characters ever created.
