Position was 2 enlisted EA controllers inside the mountain. Live the hype being in the know. Kid in the candy store knowing be able to rub shoulders with all the 3 letter agencies. Oklahoma bombing was quickly solved by news broadcasts after alarm reactions. EA got all the juicy parts about everything. Too old now to be part of that anymore.

      I always wondered if they noticed a jumping "star" I saw moving and stopping on a dime back around 1966 when I had young teen aged eagle eyes. It travelled from low on the horizon to almost straight overhead and would go across chunks of the sky and stop several times for a second before it slowly got dimmer and dimmer, as if it was no longer glinting the sun off of it that had set a few hours earlier. From where I was standing in the northeast U.S. this "star" must have been over Canada. If NORAD didn't detect that, they weren't doing their job that night. I wonder how high their radar's can see. They must scan high enough to see ballistic missiles in space, so they must have seen this "jumping star". What do they do when they see stuff like that? What do they do when Ageas cruisers like the USS Princeton sees "tic-tacs" at 80,000 ft. moving at 120 mph? I often wonder.

    I wish canada would hold a poll on large important issues in Canada. Like how much percent of out gdp should be spent on defense, what types of defense canada should invest in, postures in world conflicts, inflation, Canadian border security, canadian immigration and so on. It would help canada do what needs to be done but refuse to do and help give citizens a voice and push the goverment to make Canada the most top country in tje world for defense, living standards, wages, healthcare, median household wages, inflation and so on. Canada and America 1950s and 1960s is the era i want to live in. And the era Canada should return to since everything was better in north American than today. Which is sad means were not only taking steps ahead weve taken steps behind in most sectors in over 70 years 70!

    That interception out in the middle of nowhere doesn't seem like practical training when the potential target will be in a high traffic area like the Golden Gate Bridge, NYC or Washington DC. But, then again, the Naval exercise off of Long Island didn't work out so well for TWA 800.

    I have known about NORAD and their mission since I was 5 years old in 1968. That is the year my dad was stationed there, He was there for 1 tour went over seas for 2 years and then went to train on some new satellite system before being reassigned to Cheyenne mountain. He never got into classified material like the SR71 but He did let us know that they protected the airspace of North America and tracked all objects in earth orbit. I remember the first time my dad and I talked about the SR71 was after they retired the aircraft in the 1990's. That plane was an amazing feat of engineering and Kelly Johnson should be listed among the top 10 aeronautical engineers of all time just for building it!

      What response are you asking about? They shut down the entire US air space to civil air traffic and then what did you expect? They already had crashed into the buildings and the last airliner where they fought was followed but what could they do exactly except follow it and if it went at any important targets shoot it down. Fortunately for the AF pilots it was brought down by the occupants in a fight and not near any heavily occupied area. So what response are you talking about beyond what they did? And I am sure they did more than they revealed to the public , but they aren’t after headlines and to tell everything would just help the next jerk offs.

    A few years ago, my buddy and I were flying his Mooney from N.J. to North Carolina. We were well east of the Washington D.C. restricted area. The Mooney had a Garmin 530 GPS display that was able to show other air traffic using transponders. After a while, you get used to perceiving how fast the other aircraft are going, just through experience. This was before it was required to have ADS-B. We were up somewhere around 7,500 ft. above sea level when suddenly I noticed another aircraft on the Garmin indicating an altitude about 4,000 ft below us and about 10 miles behind us. The thing that really got my attention was the speed the target was traveling. It was much faster than an airliner. I never saw another airplane go that fast on the Garmin. I joked and told my buddy we were being followed by a UFO.
    Finally, as the target merged with us, I looked down in front of the right-wing and saw an F-16. As he passed us he made a wide clearing left turn out toward the sea. We were doing nothing wrong and we were not in restricted airspace. He never came near us and if it were not for the Garmin, we might not have even known he was there. I guess even NORAD gets bored sometimes and uses general aviation airplanes for practice.

      Pilots are just people (my dad is a Lt. Col f-16 instructor) and they like flying nearby and seeing other planes too, and see how fast they can pass them. It's probably slightly less boring than just flying along in the big huge sky. So it could've been that as well lol.

On one of those trips they informed us they wanted to practice interceptions on us. In about 1 minute we had fighters coming at us from different directions. It was my first time for that and it felt like they were going to fly right up our ass. I was very impressed with how quickly they found our small aircraft. They called us “ long time dead “ on the radio as we left their air space and we asked how well it went.

    First of all if a fighter has to get launched your in the wrong 100%. Ive never understood pilots that go fly and are not constantly listening to freq/guard it makes me nervous knowing people are just that careless but we see it all the time. Every incident I’ve had. I was on freq and the center came on and said “your 5miles from a P# turn left/right immediately ” they are very good about warning you well before you enter the restricted space even if you didn’t see the notam. So getting fighters launched you have to be very unsafe on routine basis to get in that situation. - for me it’s a responsibility to monitor freq for every fellow pilot sake. Also we have tons of medevac helicopters that are always on the move and will go to scenes and rx hospitals so if your chances of hitting one are high if you don’t pay attention.

      It's been a joint operation since the beginning. The Canadians were even present when NORAD was told to stand down by Cheney during the 9/11 attacks, which interestingly enough hasn't been commented on. Granted, I've only read down about 60 comments, but seems to me to be a huge elephant in the room. What happened during that massive failure anyway? Rhetorical question BTW. Am throwing that out there for those who refuse to wake up and realize the level of corruption that exists in our government and military command structure.

Also, we in Tunisia want the United States of America to help the Tunisian people to Qais Saeed was expelled from power and put on trial. There is also an underground NORAD bunker, that has also moved it's facilities above ground in the 2000s, in my home town of North Bay Ontario. I currently live in the old military housing that housed all the employees of the bunker back in the 60s. Pretty cool history around here!

    • @jacobsparry8525
      @jacobsparry8525 Год назад

      They have several alternative command and control bunkers. There is Raven Rock and Mount Weather Deep command center and the Pentagon Deep Command center supposedly at over 3000 feet down and able to withstand large hits, and the Canadian Forces North Bay Control Complex which is part of NORAD, and those are just the Command and Control deep bunkers we know about. There are also some communications bunker complexes as the Warrington classified Communication center run by the CIA and the NSA, and the Mount Pony bunker at Culpepper Virginia which is where they have BILLIONS and Billions in US currency stockpiled in case of nuclear war.
      AND don’t forget the looking glass command and control aircraft always in the air in hardened air liners which can stay in the air, hidden, for many days with air refueling. They can run an entire war from those. And Air Force 1 & 2 which have the same equipment to run a war and air refuel. They are not called looking glass anymore but they are still in the air 24/7.
      I figure it for every one station we know about there are at least 2 we do not. I know we have logistical bunkers in deep caves all over the US that are full of everything from MREs to tires to computers to blankets. And I am sure they have some bunkers for bulk stationing of combat troops and of course we all know about the Project Greek Island aka The Greenbrier that was a bunker for the Congress until some bunghole of a reporter made it all public.
