- “Potter is a boy! Not a piece of meat!”
Professor Minerva McGonagall (Dame Maggie Smith), Professor Severus Snape (Alan Rickman), Alastor ‘Mad-Eye’Mood (Brendon Gleeson) and Professor Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) discuss Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe’s) participation in The Triwizard Tournament.
When Harry Potter’s name emerges from the Goblet of Fire, he becomes a competitor in a grueling battle for glory among three wizarding schools - the Triwizard Tournament. But since Harry never submitted his name for the Tournament, who did? Now Harry must confront a deadly dragon, fierce water demons and an enchanted maze only to find himself in the cruel grasp of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. In this fourth film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, everything changes as Harry, Ron and Hermione leave childhood forever and take on challenges greater than anything they could have imagined.

Horse Radish it makes you question everything about harry”s life did Dumbles send him to his aunts place to make him look weak and easy to control and did he allow Harry to be ostracized year after year so he would prefer to die?
I know 😂😂😂 That part on of that memory is my fav 😅💔
That's just what I was thinking about. This happens when you write a script with no idea how characters work.
That awkward moment where McGonagall is the only one who gives a crap about Harry not getting mauled by a dragon.

Alan Rickman says the word "however" many times in all eight films. For some strange reason, I love every one of these moments.
"furthermore" is nice aswell
True, I’ve heard Snape say “However” and “furthermore” a lot of times that whenever I read those words, I hear it in Alan Rickman’s voice.
And "Always"
You can see McGonagall exhale in surrender when he says it too. "I knew there was a 'but' coming..."
But the greatest "however" in the entire series comes from Dumbledore
I would never forget Maggie! Especially after she performed so well in the Deathly Hallows while battling breast cancer. She is an inspiration!

I actually agree with Snape’s idea to put Harry in danger. They had no evidence on why Harry’s name was in the Goblet of Fire or how it got there. By letting the events unfold they thought they could piece it together before something bad happens.

Seriously, I never understood why Harry HAD to compete in the tournament.
A binding curse, according to fanfic, harry would have died if he had not.
Deux ex machina it is!
The idea is that the fake Moody knew this was the case. Its hardly an after fact retcon. The whole point of entering his name is the fact that Voldy knew he'd have to compete if his name was entered.

Lost faith in men?
1:01 i like how McGonogall is like: I give up on dumbledore, him and his big brain
Lol I just realized that if Dumbledore listened to McGonagall, Voldemort wouldn’t have been reborn and the next 4 books/movies wouldn’t be necessary.
Trust me Voldemort servants would have found other ways even if this failed. From what I remember, in the first and second movies, they already attempted to revive him so....
Well Dumbledore never accepted that Voldemort was gone completely and knew by speculation that Voldemort would eventually find a way to return. Even if Voldemort's plan didn't work, his return to power would only be postponed.
Wrong. Voldemort didn't need Harry's blood to be revived, he could've just used someone else's. In fact, if Voldemort hadn't gotten Harry's blood there, Harry's protection from his mother wouldn't have survived and he would've died when the killing curse was used on him by Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest, meaning the War would've been lost. So, Dumbledore remaining on his decision actually saved the Wizarding World from Voldemort's reign.
There is a theory that
The original plan wasn't for Harry to run away from Voldemort.
Voldemort had planned to polyjuice himself or a supporter into harry and return using portkey to attack the school from inside . Imagine if a harry double killed Dumbledore .
That's why the port key worked the second time. So they would have returned as the winner and then use Harry
@Jake agree. Also Voldemort wouldn't have become Harry's Horcrux, eventually becoming one of the reasons that in Deathly Hallows Harry came back from dead
Maggie Smith's performance as Minerva McGonagall was truly awe-inspiring in my opinion she truly deserves an Oscar if that is the highest award any actors/actress can be awarded because her work as McGonagall was truly both perfectly Cannon and flawlessly accurate together with heartwarming Lee tender once you get past the characters outer shell
Notice how Minerva throws her hands up, knowing full well, Dumbledores decision.
And this is why Professor McGonagall is one of my top favorites. She truly cares, but rarely shows it.

"Do nothing"? "Offer him up as bait"? "Potter is a boy, Not a piece of meat". Best quote by Professor McGonagall
Dumbledore agreeing with Snape's suggestion really kinda shows that Harry was just a tool for Dumbledore to use for his own ends
And Snape disagreed with Dumbledore on this point
+Eric Graham actually Snape disagreed with Dumbledore on this, on a side note I'm of the opinion that Snape actually cared for Harry its just he has never shown it
Just like the Bene Gesserit wanted to use Paul Muad'dib for their own purposes in Dune, because he was the Kwisatz Haderach. But he would not be their tool.
Your comment shows you have no understanding of either Snape nor Dumbledore. Snape wanted nothing more than for Harry to be safe. Facts are though, that Harry IS indeed already in it, and someone wants him in it. They have to know what's happening, for the greater good of everyone. It comes back to the question "save the baby or a thousand people".
I think its more complex than that. I mean, Harry IS the child of the woman he loves and his worst enemy. Every time Snape would see Harry he'd be reminded of Lily, but also the mistakes he made with her. And not only that, Harry would be a living reminder to Snape that the woman he loved chose another man; even worse, his worst enemy. Every time he saw James in Harry he'd feel the desire to humiliate him; not to justify his picking on Harry. But I'd say his feelings towards Harry were more complex. He saved Harry numerous times. His love for Lily wasn't so much an obsession that carried onto her son; Lily's death became Snape's ambition which kept him on Dumbledore's side from then on, till his demise. It was also likely an atonement for him to protect Harry. That being said, I think he disliked Harry despite caring for him.

“...I think we sort too soon” -Albus Dumbledore Deathy Hallows Snapes Memories
He was brilliantly ingenious and a master manipulator. However he used these traits for good. It was he who caused the eventual downfall of Voldemort using Harry and Snape. To counter someone like Voldemort, you need someone as powerful, clever, far sighted and ultimately good at heart person like Dumbledore.
I think the Sorting Hat sometimes sorts people into whichever house they need to learn from the most, instead of which traits they already have. For instance, Peter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor - maybe the Hat hoped he would learn bravery? Also, Hermione was a total nerd, which would usually mean she'd be a Ravenclaw, but she was sorted into Gryffindor. She was always the most hesitant of the three when rules and respect came into question, so maybe she needed to learn bravery, too, in that way.
@@piequals314 interesting point
@@piequals314
Peter was sorted into Gryffindor for the same reason that Harry was; he *wanted* to be sorted into Gryffindor.
i'm surprised no one has tried to steal dumbledore's memories, or at least watch them
Not sure about how many people did know about the Pensieve, apart from staff members such Snape and McGonagall, who were extremely loyal to Dumbledore
ah that makes sense
0809AriAri and harry
and Barty Crouch Jr. who is in the room here
After he died I'd spend months going through his memories! It would be like doing the same for Einstein, or Bill Gates, or MLK, just to name a random few. Imagine what insights you could gain. Dumbledore was one of, if not thee greatest wizard that ever lived. Having access to all his memories puts you on the same path yourself, or very close to it. I could see Harry becoming and even greater wizard by learning from the previous best.
Can I just say that the movie made a big mistake here, Snape would have never suggested using Harry as bait! he didn't like Harry but still wanted to protect him at any cost. He was furious later when Dumbledore told him that harry needed to be sacrificed!
Snape was essentially Dumbledore's spymaster and double agent. From his perspective, allowing things to proceed gave them a chance to watch for Voldemort's influence and maybe get some insight into his plans, capabilities, and whereabouts. Unfortunately, Voldemort outplayed both Dumbledore and Snape by having a double agent of his own.
If u actually read the books, u should know that it was dumbledore who order snape to keep an eye on him and "protect" him, altough he kinda "helps" harry, he has done nothing more than humilliate him and mock him until his dead where he reveals harry his role of double agent, snape was essentialy always at dumbledore mercy or voldemort's. It was the movies who portrayed him at the end as kind of a father to harry, yet harry took his name for the love and loyalty he have for his mother and the "sacrifice" he has to make as a double agent.
The movie never portrayed him like that mugen.
McGonagall was the mom that Harry never had and that his aunt could never be.
Don't forget Molly Weasley tho

+Ihdc1 i think some people prefer the movie dumbledore, because the first one was too calm. i did like him better though but i can see why some people dont
Laura Rizik The book Dumbledore was calm so Harris was more true to the book than Gambon.
Identity misplaced aside - the fact that Dumbledore was smart enough to have Moody around and keep an eye on Harry does show that at the very least he cares for Harry's safety. Can never accuse Dumbledore of not taking safety measures.
Let's not forget Maggie Smith!
The fact Dumbeldore let Harry compete, and the part about the supposed look of triumph on Dumbeldore’s face when Harry mentions that he took his blood, really makes me think that Dumbeldore was attempting to steer Voldemort in this direction all-along. He knew that confrontation was inevitable, so he drew it out.
Macgonagall actually had a point and Dumbledore was being an idiot (this one time)
Dumbledore has been an idiot a couple of times actually. He himself noted that eventually, though not referring to himself in that way of course.
You mean all the time?
Yap if only he did not send harry away then, cedric will never die because moody will never enhance the cup as a portkey.
Minerva has the absolute faith in Dumbledore, but that won't stop her from stating her opinion or calling him out when she thinks he's wrong.
It is a common theme between Harry Potter and Star Wars. Obi Wan and Dumbledore manipulated the main character and put them in danger with mis-truths and for their own ends. Yes it was for the greater good but there it is.
In the book dumbledore is all calm and relaxed and believes harry, but here he is literally raging off his beard with anger.
Maybe that’s why Voldemort is so afraid of Dumbledore.
I love how his accent keeps slipping between English and Irish.
Damn, I wish I could experience Hogwarts with McGonagall as headmistress
McGonagall is only one with sence of security in the school. I know she offered a position of seeker to Harry in the first year. But this is absolute different, fighting a dragon, creatures in the lake and maze. And when the goblet chose Harry it's just too obvious someone manipulated it. Letting Harry compete was arrogant and stupid. I know there is a contract btw a competitor and the goblet, but in the second task they could disqualify him from the game or they should persuide him that "Harry you must abandon the game, there is something evil behind it, if you countinue your friend and the whole wizardy world will be in danger pls HARRY" :D

Weird how we find out later that Snape was always in a weird way looking out for Harry, but in this moment is okay with him competing in this little tourney thing as bait. Which we find out is quite dangerous, even without the element of knowing it's clearly someone setting Harry up. Was he testing Dumbledore, was he okay with it cause he wanted Harry to learn something, was it just a moment of sub par writing? It just feels weird for someone that cares about Harry to sign off on this. Unless he was confident everyone else would protect Harry and he didn't wanna blow his cover as a Voldemort supporter. Clearly I am overthinking this.
This scene kind of summarizes the entire franchise.
This is one unique scene that wasn't in the book, but still done perfectly on depicting the Hogwarts Staff's concern for Harry.
