    He looks so sadly surprised when Minerva faces him, he even lowers his wand for a second. He looks so heart-broken when Minerva fires that first volley. What a deeply tragic character and what impeccable acting.

      If you pay close attention as well, you'll notice that he deflects her spells just before he leaves so that they take out the Carrow siblings. Fan theory is that he did this on purpose, so that he could make sure the students were in safe hands before departing from the school. If that's true, superb work by both the actors and the director to add that in.

      keffypoo it's because it reminds him that another woman had stepped in front of Harry 16 years ago and wouldn't let voldwmort kill him. McGonagall's actions reminded Snape of how lily guarded harry from voldemort.

      Yes, this is the moment he knows that he has for certain lost the respect that McGonagall once had for him, that everyone sees him as the true villain, and that he knows he won't get to explain to them why he did it.

    2:45 Snape redirects McGonagall's spells at the other two Death Eaters. Snape is the unsung hero. He continued to help to the very end and he accepted being labeled the villain in order to do good.

      +Rosie Tibbs If She would have been killed there would have been two major uproars in HP fan universe...the first being with Snape of course...To put it mildly I would have been enraged to find both character that I am fond of get killed for no apparent reason...moving on, Minerva seemed to view Severus as a sort of son...personally I always saw Snape as McGonagall, and Dumbledore's unofficial adopted son...hence the anguish in her voice at the end of this clips where she calls out to Snape after he leaves...perhaps she knew it was the last time she would see "her son". He still died for nothing!

    • @FarsirisCassidy
      @FarsirisCassidy 9 лет назад +4

      +Rosie Tibbs why? she may be however good, but she, along with everyone else, even though they proclaimed themselves "loyal to Dumbledore", considered Dumbledore to be a senile gullible braindead idiot that can be easily fooled. Minerva worked with Albus for 40 years and she did not recognise his geniality, not even in the books did anyone stop and even start to think that maybe there is more to that than it seems. not unexpected, but utterly disappointing that they all just wrote Albus off as an old fool that got deceived ...

    If I was Snape, I don't know how I could stay sane. Having to act like Dumbledore dying was a good thing. The love of my life long gone. Her son in danger 24/7 whilst believing that he was evil.

    • @LDT7Y
      @LDT7Y 8 лет назад +221

      I always assumed he was a bit psycho in the books. Pining after someone he never dated in the first place, refusing to move on years after, acting like a sadist to children... all traits of a psychologically messed up person. If Lilly had stayed alive then he probably would have ended up stalking her or something equally scary. He's one of those people that creates a fake Facebook account just to follow an ex they can't get over! God forbid Snape discovered the internet! I think casting Alan Rickman made people feel more sorry for him in the movies (Rickman's awesomeness gave Snape extra cool factor), but before seeing Snape on film I just assumed he was nuts.
      Minerva, on the other hand... totally badass witch! McLovin' it!

    • @DamienTepps
      @DamienTepps 8 лет назад +43

      Ellie Wilson I'm well aware that Snape can fly unaided. But they're not the only 2; Bellatrix, fenrir, and a few other death eaters are also known practitioners.
      Furthermore, the headmaster of any given school is able to lift the anti-apparation spell as stated by Dumbledore in HBP.
      Though he flew out a window in the novel as he fought off 3 or 4 adversaries, the screenplay for the film says specifically that he apparated backwards.

      +shakaama As awful as it feels right now, grief is a necessary part of coming to terms with the loss of one you loved/respected. When people say "RIP," they are saying it to show both respect and grief.
      It may always make you sad to be reminded, but if you accept that you need to grieve, you can be patient with yourself, and time will heal the wound to where, although it will still hurt sometimes, you'll also be able to remember him fondly, and enjoy his brilliant work without becoming "exceedingly sad."

      What is getting ridiculous, is the number of people who think he was pissed because he couldn't get Lily and that what he did didn't take courage or strength.

      Abhay Except that he was a grown adult by the time we meet him and the characters were eleven-seventeen. He had a horribly abusive upbringing, and was bullied and treated terribly all his life, but he was never taught how to function well as an adult, and he in turn became abusive and terrible on his students. He never should have been allowed to teach young students, and it says volumes about Dumbledore's priorities that he was willing to allow those kids to suffer and ignore Snape's internal demons.

    When the fight started at 2:33 Snape instinctively drew back here because he did not want to harm McGonagall. In the short fight he only used blocks. Not once did he attack McGonagall. If he attempted to do so, he probably would have harmed her, as he is a very powerful wizard. At 2:47 he cause one of his blocks to look messy and with a dramatic sweep of his hand, he blew out the Carrows in case they would attempt to harm the students or staff after he had left. Then, not wanting to cause anymore harm, he flew out the window, risking the shouts of coward. YAAA SNAPE YOU THE BEST

      I dunno....that may be the case in the movies. In the books, McGonagall was more than holding her own, despite beind quite a bit older than Severus. Granted, we know the real reason he was seeking Harry in that scene was to tell him that Harry was a horcrux. That being said, McGonagall didn't know that, and was attacking Snape out of a sense of duty to Harry and the school, and felt like he'd crossed the line. My interpretation, of course, but I think it's fairly accurate.

    As you notice, Minerva McGonagall fires the first spell/curse, then she stops. That was a warning shot to tell Snape to leave. She could have kept on going with her spells/curses because that is what you do in a duel, you keep going. I don't think neither one wanted to fight the other especially Snape, but she believes that Snape killed her friend/colleague Albus Dumbledore and he was about to kill one of her students she cared so deeply about, almost as a grandmother figure, so she was going to defend Harry to the death and defend Dumbledore's honor, which means she was raged and that could push anyone over the edge.

And deep down, he was dying a little every day to the point that when Voldermort wanted to kill him, he was virtually already dead. How oh how did he do it? When he killed Dumbledore and resumed the position of double agent with in the death eaters, how did he carry on? He must have been constantly wondering to himself, "What is the next move?" "What did Dumbledore expect me to do?" "Why has he abandoned me?" "Why did he trust me, of all people!?" "Why has he doomed me, why has he forsaken me!?" but yet he never gave anything away. He remained calmed and did what he had to do to ensure the safety of Harry, and to ensure the end of Voldermort.

      +Anton Nzl But once he was made headmaster, he got to talk with Dumbledore again, conspiring as they used to, only with his portrait. Of course, they did work out most of the plan together before he had to kill Dumbledore - that was made clear in the book.

    • @HopeUnquenchable
      @HopeUnquenchable 8 лет назад +8

      +Anton Nzl True, in that time right after he had to kill Dumbledore, and before he was made headmaster, he probably did have questions and apprehensions, just as Harry did after Dumbledore's death, with no clear plan on his quest to destroy the horcruxes.
      In the book, Severus' memories in the pensive show him getting clearly frustrated with Dumbledore, refusing to let him into the entire plan whilst holding him to his promise to kill him when the time was right. But Dumbledore did say he wasn't going to put all of his eggs in one basket, evidenced by how he never told Harry about Severus' role, nor Severus about the horcruxes.
      I think Severus, as a mature and experienced wizard, was far more focused on his task of both keeping his cover as "Voldemort's man," and protecting the students at Hogwarts, than Harry was on his task of finding and destroying the other horcruxes. Dumbledore trusted Severus to perform and complete his task solo, whereas he knew that Harry would need help until he got to the part of his task that only *he* could complete.

      Isn't it odd how Dumbledore should have hired Snape to also deal with hunting down the Horcruxes? Surely Snape would have done some homework and how Snape was very knowledgeable on the Dark Arts - and if he was brave enough to play double-cross with Voldemort - all the while keeping loyal to Dumbledore and with Harry as a motivation of Lily Potter's legacy - odd how yet Dumbledore doesn't enlist Snape to hunt down the Horcruxes - where it was too late almost where Snape was angry and upset where Dumbledore cursed himself on the Cursed Ring and all Snape could do in the end was to plan out Dumbledore's final moves before taking matters to his own hand to protect Hogwarts and at the same time assist Harry and the others ...

    • @katethe5th555

      @HeirofGojira91 10 лет назад

      Maica Terina Not that I'm trolling or being an idiot but surely if Snape had enough will and bravery to mask his true loyalty to Voldemort, protecting Hogwarts despite Dumbledore's death, guiding Harry and the others to find the Sword of Griffindor via his Patronus - and also providing clues all the while still 'working for Voldemort' - and considering also Snape had taught Harry some Occlumency which is abit ironic - wouldn't that still have helped? Afterall - Snape was quite upset and angry when Dumbledore cursed himself ...

      Of course, Dumbledore trusted Snape, and wanted him to help Harry finish Voldemort. Snape did that until the very end, even if he acted like he hated Harry. He may have hated him as a student due to what his father did, that was true loathing, but he was on Dumbledores orders, and he wasn't going to let Harry die without a fight, for the greater good so to speak, Harry was the only one that could finish Voldemort so they kinda needed him alive.

    This is heartbreaking. We often forget that Snape and McGonagall had a long work history with one another. Snape more than likely hesitated when he did because of that history. Because it's Minerva that he is about to face off with. I'm sure he knew it was inevitable, but it still must have hit him very very hard. I wish Dumbledore could've warned her or something. Telling her to trust Snape no matter what like he did. Maybe then they would not have had to face off like this.

    • @SavioByrczak
      @SavioByrczak 9 лет назад +6

      Wouldn't it had been genius, if Dumbledore told her that. And if Snape and McGonagall would have "practiced" that fight so the two in the background would be knocked off and Hogwarts would have been in good hands again? Maybe it was they're plan, so the students would think Snape was the danger :)

    • @testodude
      @testodude 8 лет назад +4

      +Sa Vio I don't think there was any indication McGonagall knew Snape was still "one of the good guys". Snape is still a deep cover agent at this point, but only Dumbledore knew it. He is holding back against McGonagall, but had to keep his Death Eater cover. He duels, but he casts no curses or hexes at her. Once he sees the Order showing up, he knows Harry is protected. He can slink away to rejoin Voldemort. I don't think he was really frightened-- I don't think anything frightens Snape. Shackleford, Remus, and all those Weasleys who showed up with Order would have taken out the Carrows. Dumbledore left McGonagall in the dark about Snape's role (killing Dumbledore on his own orders to spare Malfoy, continuing to protect Potter, and staying in good with Voldemort until the prophecy can be fulfilled). McGonagall is attacking Snape with all her power

    • @subscribersnovideoscanwegetthe
      @subscribersnovideoscanwegetthe 7 лет назад

      No, because the only one Dumbledore could fully trust to play this game without blowing cover was Snape. McGonnal might have lost her act if she really believed Snape turned bad and she should have intrinsically felt Snape was on Voldemort's side or else some people might have picked up vibes from her indicating she trusts Snape, which in turn might alert Voldemort Snape is tricking him.

      houseofaction I'm not sure he considers Minerva as a "loved one". I would even say he despises her. Slytherin and Gryffindor have always hated each other, and so do their pupils. Moreover, Snape is a DeathEater, even if he's on a better side than the other. He joined only the Order of the Phoenix to avenge Lilly's death. He's still an evil man who probably committed crimes in You-Know-Who's name.

      Victor Bordier It's implied throughout the series that he's trying to make amends for that, more than just him avenging Lily's death. More importantly, the relationship between them (McGonagall and Snape) is suggested to be deep. They don't always get along, they often butt heads... But they respect eachother's abilities.

      McGonnagall was an extremely powerful witch expert in "good" curses. Snape had experience as a Death Eater, and so was familiar with Unforgivable Curses and co.

    I wish this scene was longer, I think Severus could beat Minerva in a duel. It just makes him look like a coward him fleeing so early which is far from what he is. Poor sev :'(

      True, he probably didn't wish to harm them, but they are not really giving him much of a choice. And Aquilla.Van.Ellison might be right, if he had given it a chance, I'm sure Severus could stand firm in a direct duel with Minerva and I guess with all his knowledge and skills he could simply return Harry to ashes! (which he must be very tempted to do when Harry confronts him)

    Look how snape directed minerva's spell at the carrows and when he lefy he took the carrows wands so that they can not harm any students ...
    Snape was so brave acting as a double agent from the start..

      Severus's face at 2:21. Damn. Such good acting from Alan. You can see respect, guilt, grief all at once while he still manages to look quite nonchalant. Snape is the boss. Even when he was getting so much disdain and all round shit from everyone he did his job. Probably fed up of everything but did his job. Didn't complain. Just stuck to his loyalty.

      Stannis The Mannis Yea I just think about how in the '19 years later' scene Harry stated that Severus was the bravest man he knew, and when I thought about it, he was right. Snape threw himself in the fire for Harry, pretending to be on Voldemort's side, and it ultimately got him killed.

    Why has no one mentioned that when McGonagall shoots the fire at Snape he deflects it and splits it into two and takes out those two death eater losers, effectively eliminating them as witnesses. Snape = The most bad ass spy ever.

    My nephew: Why is Snape villainized?
    Me: Because they have to villainize him. Because he's the hero Hogwarts deserves, but not the one it needs right now, so they'll hunt him. Because he can take it, because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Half-Blood Prince.
