Wind and high temps will obliterate any blood left in or on the dirt. Not to mention they also said in the video that his remains were skeletal so they couldn't determine the cause of death. This is where your wild animals come in, food is precious and rare in the High Desert. In the above comment they also said Jeff was crazy for all intents and purposes so his journal was probably hit or miss.
I gotta say this is one of the most interesting stories I've followed on RUclips. Funny how a couple strangers were able to bring his story to the world. You probably showed more interest in his life than anyone in his life. Maybe what you've done will give his lonely soul a little peace. R.I.P.

I’ll take a small town over any of those democrat cities. The crime doesn’t even compare. The small minds are the ones who vote democrat and constantly support the high rise in crime.
However way he met his end, it is truly a shame. I don't think he was crazy, just heartbroken. Grief is a heavy burden to bear anywhere you go. It's hard to imagine his last days alone and it's even harder to imagine anyone being so ruthless towards someone so desperate, someone truly in need. You guys did amazing work here. It's heartbreaking. Jeff is never far from my mind. If any of the selfish cowards involved in raiding and harming Jeff read this, I hope you one day realize that you sought retribution from someone who had nothing left to give. He'd already lost everything. Whatever he took from you was nothing compared to what life took from him. RIP Jeffrey Kirkwood.
You both went above and beyond on this one. Contacting this man’s wife about your discovery (and law enforcement) was the right thing to do. The fact that you spent time to research your initial find, and then work out all of the tangled relationships based on the names is amazing. The sheriff’s office should have done that. You guys are awesome!

I love this father and daughter bonding..they have the same interests..and they can be both a good investigators too..they never stop digging, even the smallest details..just wow!!
That was exactly my question. I was on a search and rescue team. Even if nothing was found I would find myself back looking for the slightest bit of evidence to suggest where to look next. His body was next to a road, how hard was that to miss or overlook???? No one doing their job right would have missed that at all! Especially with his vehicle as a point of reference for the grid search!!!!
Desolate and very isolated. He stole from the only people that were in the area. He was too far out and alone. Nothing around. It's the Desert. The Drone shows nothing but Mountains and Dirt. Not a vehicle in sight..Nothing

you guys should do brandon lawsons case, fr. his missing persons case is so crazy and it has stumped a lot of ppl. it happened in 2013 he has 4 kids and you guys do rly good research... anyways his 911 phn call is all over youtube and nobody can figure out what he's saying. a lot of ppl say its been edited. this is in bronte texas. he and his common law wife got into a argument he left to go stay the night with his parents to cool off he left the house at like 1030. he ran out of gas called his brother for help by the time his brother got there he was no where to be found but he made a call to 911. I'm pretty sure the cops in that town knows what happened not to mention the sheriff on the case is married to the woman who runs the news paper their I'm leaving a lot of info out but it would be nice to see this case get solved. love your channel btw i also subscribed

It is comforting that there are people like you out there. Sometimes family is too close to the situation and we need people like you to help us even though the outcome may be not what we want. Awesome detective work Bob and Emma! Sad-I don't understand why Jeff, an avid hiker-allowed himself to reach such a point of desperation. What was going on his life that he would choose this isolation. I also am sad that he was surrounded by homesteaders and instead of asking them for gas to get out, he hid and resorted to stealing. Not that that should have cost him his life! When you reported your find of his hiding place-the police dept. should have sealed the building and had forensics go over every inch. Burning his possesions, why? doesn't seem like vandalism to me, more like obliterating evidence. My heart goes out to his family. Sounds like at least two men are backpedaling the extent of their interaction with him.

Roy, I totally agree. I thought that the first time I saw that. I think once the EWU'S started asking questions the murderer panicked and went to the location to hide any evidence.

So this wasn't a guy that checked out of society and his own life to go out and commit suicide like I previously kinda thought. What has been the reaction from his wife when you told her? Another interesting video. Keep searching and exploring. You’re doing things others can’t. This story sounds like Jeff became a throw away person. No one wanted him. Even after death, they just collected his bones, identified them and closed the case. No one wanted to spend time or money on what happened to him. At least until you EWU investigated his story. Excellent investigative work. Had you not worked so hard on this case, most of the facts would never have been known. By digging and digging you were able to put the facts together piece by piece. I don't think he was intentionally murdered. More like he was caught stealing or trespassing/making a get a way etc by a rancher who pulled out the "truck gun" and put a shot on him at distance. This is the West. These people don't mess around when it comes to protecting their ranch, livestock, and families whether it's predators or people. Maybe they thought they didn't hit him? Thought maybe they scared him off with a missed shot? Most likely bullet went clean thru. I agree that Jeff probably thought the authorities were looking for him for the stealing or that if he were shot, the shooter was looking for him. Combination of mental health issues/depression and sepsis could have warped his perceptions. I like the metal detector/trail cam ideas for sure but probably too late now.
As someone who loves missing people stories and is quite the little investigator herself, I just love these videos so much. Awesome work guys! So unfortunate that the police didn’t want to investigate further. Be safe out there and keep it up 👍

Maybe the cause of death was the untreated infection? They can easily get bad enough to cause death without sufficient treatment... Poor guy...sad story :(

Interesting connections and information. If he was shot in the bowels, he would have eventually become septic, dying from infection. I saw a video about Jeremy’s place probably over a year ago. We should try to seal it up and keep the animals out. It would be a good cabin to keep preserved for general public use, if it’s abandoned.

Also, after justly trashing the Sheriffs office there I would avoid going back there now, just saying because there is no telling how an incompetent sheriff would deal with you spreading the truth of them for all to see and it being a vast and desolate area..

If there's a child trafficking ring (like I suspect from the things found in the building)... it could be likely that the authorities are aware or even involved as there is alot of money in that business unfortunately. It could be that they don't have the resources to investigate it further so they showed no interest. You never know. :(

Remember in one of their previous videos, Jeff was suffering from a mental illness.
Dee Maynard in the previous video, they showed a Facebook post in which he talks about being heartbroken over the death of his young daughter.
He was expecting to be incarcerated in a mental hospital as his wife was going to have him committed to one as he was allegedly mentally ill.

Yes, the Sheriff Dept. didn't do their job but close a case with ni facts. I could have done that to. SMH... I personally feel Jeff was murdered just like u mentioned. It all comes together & makes sense! 🏆

Roy, I totally agree. I thought that the first time I saw that. I think once the EWU'S started asking questions the murderer panicked and went to the location to hide any evidence.

Wow. That's so sad. I think if he was stealing, it shows he wanted to survive and live. So this wasn't a guy that checked out of society and his own life to go out and commit suicide like I previously kinda thought. What has been the reaction from his wife when you told her? Maybe the FBI could help if the police are too ignorant. What a horrible story though. Just wow. Good detectiving guys!!!
Another interesting video. Keep searching and exploring. You’re doing things others can’t. This story sounds like Jeff became a throw away person. No one wanted him. Even after death, they just collected his bones, identified them and closed the case. No one wanted to spend time or money on what happened to him. At least until you EWU investigated his story. This is why I’m a patreon of EWU.

Excellent investigative work. Had you not worked so hard on this case, most of the facts would never have been known. By digging and digging you were able to put the facts together piece by piece. Such a sad story in such a beautiful place! I love the wide open views out west. Too bad his life had to end this way.
I don't think he was intentionally murdered. More like he was caught stealing or trespassing/making a get a way etc by a rancher who pulled out the "truck gun" and put a shot on him at distance.
This is the West. These people don't mess around when it comes to protecting their ranch, livestock, and families whether it's predators or people.
Maybe they thought they didn't hit him? Thought maybe they scared him off with a missed shot?
Most likely bullet went clean thru.
I agree that Jeff probably thought the authorities were looking for him for the stealing or that if he were shot, the shooter was looking for him. Combination of mental health issues/depression and sepsis could have warped his perceptions.
I like the metal detector/trail cam ideas for sure but probably too late now.

Good job Guys, someone needed to look into his death and circumstances and although we can't be absolutely sure about it, BUT, I think you've gotten close to the truth. Also, after justly trashing the Sheriffs office there I would avoid going back there now, just saying because there is no telling how an incompetent sheriff would deal with you spreading the truth of them for all to see and it being a vast and desolate area..
You are some great detectives, really have to admire the efforts you have done to uncover the story of someone lost in the middle of nowhere!

If there's a child trafficking ring (like I suspect from the things found in the building)... it could be likely that the authorities are aware or even involved as there is alot of money in that business unfortunately. It could be that they don't have the resources to investigate it further so they showed no interest. You never know. :(
