Do you know it's asbestos-filled? The dogs clearly had access to that gated portal with fresh air and sunlight. They seemed well behaved, and there's no reason to think he didn't let them out for walks every day. I've seen more badly abused animals in green, grassy back yards. @@UnitSe7en Woah calm down. The dogs had access to the gate that was locked? Maybe it would have been better if they called a rescue organization rather than animal control. But that should be no condition for any dog to live in, no matter how long they stay there during the day. If you have the responsibility of owning a pet, you have the responsibility to care for it. They said it themselves in the video, the dog was drinking "moldy water". I agree with you, you shouldn't make generalizations based on things you don't know, and it would be very difficult to have your dogs taken away like that. I just wanted to share my own opinion.

It's one thing to call animal control when they thought the dog might have been abandoned, it's another when they realized that it likely belonged to someone homeless and still decided to call. It's actually pretty heartless and very self-righteous. Dogs that belong to the homeless aren't just automatically in poor health, and there are actually groups out there that will help homeless or lower income folks with their pets. They can also be very important to the mental health of the owner who is already struggling. They also clearly didn't think through, or just didn't care, about the safety of the owner because police don't typically treat homeless people with respect. And even when the owner is rightfully upset, Dan is in passenger seat being a complete dick escalating the situation. That doesn't even get into the fact that there is no guarantee, depending on the breed and the state, that the dog wouldn't just automatically be euthanized instead of being adopted out. This looked like a pit or pit mix, and that can be the case with the breed. The dog wasn't in immediate danger, and there are just better ways of handling the situation.

Having read the comments I see that some think this is likely a case of a person down on their luck taking care of three animals. People involved in animal rescue take a longer and harder look at the circumstances. Sometimes dogs are kept in out of the way places until they can be sold into dog fighting rings or they are used for breeding to sell online or on the street. Often times dogs stashed like this are used to promote an underground economy in dog fighting or selling puppies. Even street people take better care of their pets than this video suggested and I think the authorities will be able to determine the difference.

Then Bragger Guttman's went out of business.
Epstien's a local discount store moved in.
Then the last store to work in that building was a bargain basement super discount store named YOUNG WORLD that sold dismally cheap things for young people and babies.
The Newish elevators were installed when Epstien's used the building.
The reason the elevator doors do not work is the doors and the ornate brass cross hatched gates were powered by steam. Much of downtown buildings in Baltimore use steam for heating. The elevator doors in Bragger Guttmans used stream under pressure to automatically open and close the doors. This allowed for ladies to run the huge elevators. Lady elevator operators saved the discount store money since they could be paid far less than male elevator operators. Also lady elevator operators gave the discount department store a more upscale look. Hutzler's and Stewerts employed lady elevator operators to suggest an upscale shopping experience. This store was a time capsule even before it closed. The newest thing installed by bragger Guttman's was that tiny set of escalators that went from the first to the fourth floor if my memory serves. I'm over 60 years old, autistic and disabled so my memory could be slightly faulty.

Just FYI: if those dogs belonged to a homeless man he would not have left them out of his sight unless he absolutely had to, for example if he had to go to the hospital and they didn't allow him to bring his dogs. Dogs are literally a homeless person's entire world and they will sacrifice literally everything to ensure their dogs want for nothing. A homeless person's dog(s) would be placid and/or playful, and either have an excellent attitude toward other humans or be so devoted to their humans that they cling to them at all times. I didn't see any of that behavior with that one dog you encountered or the other dogs that turned up once Animal Control came on the scene. Also, in Dan's video you see zero sign of any dogs so they couldn't have been there the two weeks prior that Dan had shot his own video of the abandoned building; the only thing that sounded even remotely like a dog was the squeaky sound of the gas valve in the basement area where he encountered the gas leak, nor did he remark about any dog feces (the only animal feces I think i spotted in said video was bird poop). Damn, this literally hits close to home. I live a few miles away from the city, on the outskirts of Baltimore County. Baltimore (imo) is known for abandoned places in very poor condition. You always hear police sirens, car sirens, dogs, among other things. All common themes, including the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of animals. Malnourished and nearly dead animals are common, along with homelessness of both man and animal. Its not Baltimore without the almost daily shootings and death and all the previously mentioned things. Shitty people who go WAY too far are common. And I get why most of the time. Now there are nice and beautiful places in Baltimore that do not have all this, but they're a longer drive and are harder to see from the perspective of a tourist.

I love that vibe but only a few urbexers can appreciate it and capture it, most don't even recognise it. The proper people, Dan Bell and maybe a couple more urbex chnnels get it completely and that's why they're the best in my opinion.

Edit: i see people saying the man may be homeless etc but that doesnt excuse the fact that the animals are in a unhealthy situation its sad to get rid of a beloved pet but if you can’t provide for yourself you shouldn’t own another living being who needs alot of needs as well
Another thing is that they’re supposed to be Gaurd dogs but all they did was bark or walk away , where was the man if the “barks” were to alert him, the place probably has many entrances thus making the “gaurd” dogs useless and overall its still unhealthy and dangerous to keep a dog inside

That was a cool find! I’m glad you had concerns for the dogs. I agree when it looks unsafe the authorities need to decide I can also understand the comments that in a pound they may not get adopted so it’s a difficult situation for everyone involved. I though wouldn’t of went back and said “I was the one who called”. I have had dogs as pets all my life and they were all cared for. We had someone call and say we abused a dog and the animal enforcement showed up and took our dog, photographed the place we kept him. We only had him 3 weeks. Later it turned out the person who called knew who surrendered him and they wanted it and called in and lied. We were cleared 100% and the two things I remember was the supervisor saying the report stated we left the dog alone without shelter and food tied to a leash but they found him in our converted family room (was a garage) with plenty of food water a bed couch and central heating and cooling and in our fenced in yard there was no tie out. He didn’t need it. Plus they had us sit in a room brought him in and he immediately ran up to us and wanted to play. We got him back had him for many many years. The caller got fined and community service. Small town we learned the rest of the story and of who it was.

The old registers were the last models used before department stores moved to computerized inventory control price tags. (some may remember tags with holes punched with a series of sku numbers) That change over of systems happened in the late 1970s - early 1980s. Before IBM was the largest manufacturer of the new computerized registers, Singer (of sewing machine fame) was one of the first to mass manufacture computerized registers. Some of the oldest ones likely didn't go to $1,000.

We had no idea it was a guard dog, so we let it go. it just followed us around the building, until 40 mins later we had a shotgun in our face!
Apparently we didn’t notice a trailer next to the school, where they had an on-site guard on duty ;) … With some tears and smooth talking, I was able to butter him up and stay out of trouble…he even invited us back to ride go-karts, lol.

@ 7:16, that skylight/window was amazing! That theater was probably really lovely in the beginning of it's life. I saw a great bittersweet documentary on Turner Classic Movies about the rise and fall of "movie houses" (theaters) in America, from their beginnings in the early 20th century, to their decline only a few decades later when television became huge in the 50's. It was very well done. They described how early movie theaters were designed to be as beautiful as possible, because they were all competing with eachother for business. They showed alot of old photography of what these buildings looked like in the past, visited some that still exist, some that have become other things, and even some that are still standing but have been abandoned and are decaying, much like your video. Old movie theaters were intended to be so grand that they would last for generations. So sad that so many have completely vanished, or left unloved to crumble away. Anyways, great video, as always!

@@sojourner. well that maybe I've been around dogs all my life and probably more some than others but I'll just keep my comments to myself cuz I can't ever put a comment up online without somebody always contradicting what I put up so I know it's freedom of the press and freedoms speech everyone has a right to their own opinion but I used to do administrative work so I know how the online world is I had to work with him everyday glad I'm retired now from that kind of work

Actually in some states, it’s a thing where if you squat in a building for so long, you can claim rights to that property.

@@MoonS1337 Correct, squatter's rights differ state by state as to the length of stay you must claim to have occupied a property. In most cases, you also must prove that you are a living off of, and sustaining yourself, by what the property has to offer. These privileges do not apply to a person, who has breached a no trespassing sign, or has been directed by the owner or a representative to vacate the property on previous encounters.
