If you're patient in learning how to play this game, the rewards are great. The replayability is huge as there are literally hundreds of options on how to change history.
i dont really see the point. In Ck3 on the other hand, yes, you can play as a nobody, as a count, duke, king, emperor, or just a loyal vassa, you can be anyone and live any life you want. But in Hoi4, the focus is mainly military, the rest is just facade. So... except painting the map your colour, what other incentive is there to replay the game? What can you actually do during peace time?
Well I remember when it came out, and over time I've been having a blast with the game. And I recommend that you start in the early stages and set yourself up before you get into the war, as for pricing. I recommend you get it during the sale cause it's better to get it on the cheep. So overall it's worth it and my favorites are the 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇵🇹 so give them the start.
My friend bought it for me today. I spent around 10 hours watching tutorials and playing a tiny bit and I kind of get it. The aforementioned friend had originally gotten me into a roblox game called Rise of Nations a couple years back. It’s a world conquering game starting 2020, so modern time, and running infinitely. It is far less complex but was a very fun experience. I grew away from it as doing the same thing all the time got boring. However, when my friend bought me this game, I promised that with the fact that he bought it for me, I would play at least a 150 hours with him. I’m very excited and I just mainly wanted to see from a possible veteran had gotten bored of it. I’m rather pleased with my choice now. Thanks for the info.
If the tutorial videos aren't helping you enough, I _strongly_ recommend just watching some Let's Plays where streamers play a full campaign and talk about EVERYTHING that they are doing. It's extremely hard to explain the game, but it becomes second nature once you watch how people actually play it and why they do what they do.
I am new to the game in 2023 and now after 6 hours of tutorials am finally sinking my teeth confidently into my third campaign restart of Italy. The learning curve is no joke- but once you finally start riding the bike it is so much fun!
I completely agree with your review its excellent good job sir. I felt completely overwhelmed when I first started playing it and almost quite multiple times but my love of ww2 history and my determination to try and understand how to play payed off. I love this game so much and recommend it highly if you have the patience to keep going at it and not give in to the very tempting thought of I can't be bothered with this its way to much work. Then you want regret it.
Great video.. I saw on Steam that the game is on sale, searched it in RUclips to see some gameplay. By luck I clicked this vid, and instead got a full and well thought-out breakdown as to whether or not I should buy it. Sub'd
That was a nice review. It's currently on discount in my region and am worried I have tried both ck2 and eu4 and I thought eu4 Was very complicated but I hope hoi4 won't be as hard as eu4 because I have been playing eu4 for a long time and I still couldn't get the hang of it.
I bought it 2 years ago. Buy the base game, it’s really not expensive. As it was said don’t bother with DLCs at first as they make it even more complex. But if you like it buy the DLCs. They add a lot and if you really like the game that’s a way to support the developers.
I'd say the DLCs make it worse. Naval didn't get better after Man the Guns. From No Step Back onwards, the DLCs got too gimmicky and they started restricting features every other country could use. You can't release puppets as the USSR, delete certain units as Switzerland, or lose one bit of land as Italy without a civil war spawning and kicking your ass. Once you play with mods like Kaiserreich and Road to 56 (or Better Vanilla Experience which uses that and many other mods), you'll start to see how much better the community can design the game. I'd start with Kaiserreich as any nation in China since it's possibly the most fun experience in the mod.
It's a slog trying to learn everything and gave me a few headaches at the sheer amount of depth, but once you learn the basics this game is so damn rewarding its a strategists and military enthusiasts wet dream.
My brother let me use his steam account to try Crusader Kings 2 and told me to just play it and see what happens without worrying. Once you just let these games play and find out how fun everything going wrong is the learning curve disappears because the mistakes become stories and makes it much more meaningful when things go right. I found the time commitment more a barrier than gameplay.
10:01 This third group perfectly describes most of the fans of the mod, Equestria at War. It's _so_ well done, easily one of the best Hoi4 mods out there... but it's based on cartoon ponies, so you will hate how much you love it :' )
All those paradox games look so exciting when you understand and get really into them but to me (more a casual player without too much time) it feels so overwhelming. i bought crusader kings 3 cause it was said to be more accessible and i did not really know what i was doing or why. after a few hours I stopped. i wanna try it again one day. but i guess i'm one of those who just dont have the time (and patience) to really get into it, unfortunately.

@@Cheerios100 Don't know. It wasn't really extreme clipping but things that are barely noticeable with cheap audio can really hurt with a good quality pair of headphones. I'm also pretty sensitive to it so maybe someone else would not think it is a big deal.

Well, great video. How about long form coop gameplay? Can you do a single player type campaign etc. but with another player?? Or only on a multiplayer session? Thanks
There's a game in Roblox called Rise of nations that looks like hoi4 but much more easier to learn and master the mechanics of it.. it maybe not as rewarding as learning how to play hoi4 cause it's a Roblox game after all. But i honestly love it and love to play it. It maybe a bit complicated at the beginning like any other strategy games but it's much easier than hoi4 and it's free to play. Also it's multiplayer based because single player pretty much doesn't exist or you can say it's much boring than multiplayer because the AI of countried that are not lead by a player is so bad. It starts at 2019 (modern world) but you can buy a private server and edit the map how you like so you can make people join your private servers and play with you in a ww2 or a ww1 or even a cold war event.
The game I've played the most is Dark Age of Camelot, which I played every single day for five years. They also have a monthly subscription for $5 that gives you access to all DLCS. I know it may seem crazy , but it’s not a bad alternative if you turn out to be a huge fan of the game
I think the reason HOI4 is staying on top is because of that learning cliff, as it takes at least 30 hours but by then you’ve already become attached to the game so it becomes harder to stop. Also the DLC’s are an option which lets you slowly unlock more potential; if you’re bored, buy a new DLC. Or you can just buy all at one for like £120 and spend at least 70 hours understanding it.
I have such a difficult time with this game. I would love to play germany build it up but it never works out. Seems like you have to attack certain countries at time that is best for germany. Air forces are the easiest because you literally click on the airbase and then onto another and all the selected planes fly over to the next airport. Highlight all the missions you want to do then click it anywhere within its operational range. The planes will head off and staet attacking the enemy. Navy is the hardest due to having to try and dominate the seas for amphibious invasions.

what kills the game for me is that there is a time limit 10 years??? you can't just keep playing and killing?
Mods my friend, there are always mods if you want to extend timeline
