Best thing this DLC did was giving us the opportunity to see youtubers pronounce "cangaço". ISP's is the best I've seen so far, but he almost immediately gives us the legendary "battle hoes". You win some and you lose some, right?

Yes. As a Chilean i really love the DLC and content added to my country. BUT i can't really understand why they didn't give content to every country. I feel like at least Perú and Colombia deserved the same content.
Also the countries are too strong. I played with Chile and it's too broken, the only hard and fun part is to invade Argentina or Perú, after that its an isekai power fantasy.
yeah i played as a democratic argentina and had more industry and manpower than hungary and romania combined without taking any other countries in south america... its insultingly bad, plus you factor in all the focuses that give build speed or consumer goods debuffs... its just broken

Personally I think Argentina is more fun, Argentina let's you core South American states if you go down the right focus and be able to take the Falkands and South Georgia without being stuck in endless war.
You can also get a certain Austrian painter for the leader if Germany goes ahistorical and you do the fascist path
@@ryansearle6157 I hate doing achievements that are up to chance. I did manage to get the one achievement for seizing and holding the Falklands and South Georgia. Usually when I play, its for doing achievement runs.

Modders have proven beyond any reasonable doubt that Paradox is just lazy and greedy. Mind you, when I say _Paradox,_ I mean the corporate side - *not the developers.* I’m sure the developers’d love to move away from this predatory DLC spam model, but money-hungry company directors need their fix.
Until the map-painting community collectively agrees to boycott future Paradox content, this will just keep happening. If you want them to stop, close your damn wallets.

Though none of them are very good. Austria-Hungary is a pretty mid formable, Romania gets no cores at all, Yugo is just pain, besides commie path.

That’s my biggest issue with Paradox, they make good games, they constantly update them through the years…but the dlc they release and the prices they charge are absurd. If they would put 2 or 3 dlcs into 1 of what they released currently id happily spend 20 bucks on it, but 20 bucks for the dlc’s they release currently is atrocious. So it’s waiting until they’re on sale and by then you’re usually a few dlc’s behind. Buy the base game and 🏴☠️ the dlc’s if you ask me.

Since they said long ago they would soon (several years ago) not have any mechanical things to add (only focus tree packs), since the Paradox engine was already old and submerged despite being new. (maybe Paradox will make dlc of mods, like a ww1 date (which can get railroaded into ww2 after ww1 is over, if you want to play a long time), all the mods weapon designer, the mod squad designer (like in infantry division, adding sniper, flamethrower, mortar etc so that every infantry you add to a division template will get extra stats)
(and it is a 32bit engine, which is a big part of my issues with mods, when I get passed the 2 billion in manpower (playing long enough for my pop to grow while having annexed China India and sov), same for economy for millenium dawn when I get to a certain point where my gpd is too great and it gets negative)
You need to do the fascist path when you do Argentina with historical focuses off, because Paradox confirmed that if Germany doesn’t go fascist, you can get a certain funny mustache man to lead the country.

My best guess is that they reserved the countries in north SA for another SA DLC, idk it's just weird to me that they did all of that for the southern SA countries including the insignificant ones like Uruguay and Paraguay, but didn't even touch Peru.
The next SA dlc will probably flesh out Peru, Colombia and Bolivia having the bigger focuses, while Ecuador and Venezuela get the shorter ones like the ones Paraguay and Uruguay got.

Getúlio Vargas wasan't a democrat but a evil dictator who rulled with blood in his hands, persecuited and did concentr4tion camps to isolate Italians, Germans and Japanese. The democrat path is historically bad, César Lates was who we could put on that ideology, Vargas oppositor in favor of democracy. So with this i can say to you, paradox only did any real research about braziliam history, they don't care to us.
I don't wanna be the "use mod instead of buying DLC" but there is no real reason to spend $20 on a few nations in South America when there is a mod (En Union y Libertad) gives a focus tree to every nation in South America (excluding Ecuador) for free

It's not bad at all tbh, I mean if you don't want the DLC don't buy it, in this instance this DLC has zero impact on the rest of the world or game, the *one* time it doesn't make the game worse like BBA did, It's my least favorite update, genuinely the worst

Its amazing because when I play Germany Vichy France does basically nothing same with Italy its like the game just waits for you to start the attack which doesn't make sense. Even when I was exiled Poland it felt like the Allies were waiting for my minor exiled armies to initiate everything.
The weird thing is how much partial content there is. Paraguay and Uruguay's weird pseudo-focus trees, events and minor stuff for Bolivia and Venezuela, etc. instead of just giving a full treatment to more countries.
I do kind of appreciate the armed forces trees overlapping based on region since, y'know, they're all fighting from a similar location so having similar choices and doctrines in their trees make sense. But giving content to extremely marginal countries like Uruguay and Switzerland while countries like The Philippines have nothing is baffling.

To be honest, I'm more baffled that the german tree is still they way it is. Now you got the situations that Denmark and Uruguay have a better military (because of the buffs) then the main nation of ww2.
P.S. I really dont like that they just hand out buffs. I would love more directing. Give me 10% more armor attack, but give me a armor defence decrease.

The other side of the path (conquering South America) allows you to actually core the land you take, which is stupid to me, you’d more likely get cores in the non violent diplomatic way in my mind.

The thing about this DLC is that the new focus tree are actually good.
Quite enjoyed them, and they are not busted like the Greece, Turkey and Italy ones.
The problem is just that the DLC doesn't really add much.
If it would have given ALL south American countries a focus tree and/or gave a new extensive mechanic it would be worth the price, but not like it is right now!
The Chile one is especially fun, lots of whacky paths

Idk why/how, but the axis get super overpowered in this DLC. It took Alex von rambler until 1947-1948 to win. It was crazy.

The AI seems to have been improved, when I'm Greece I used to be able to grind Turkey and they sent their entire army through the border, get encircled and die

So fun fact: If you do the other focus other than Good Neighbor policy and go for America Del Sul (I think), you can get war goals on every country in South America, AND you can get them as cores.
Brazil honestly got a mildly fun tree. It’s the other four that are quite questionable on both paper and in execution.

As someone from Chile this is like heaven on Earth I never expected they'd give a huge focus tree and flavour to my country who was literally the last country to join WW2 XDDD, but welp I am happy that my country has more love than Germany in this game

@@johnclay2716 It was pretty funny how mad he got, all I did was say if victoria 3 was as good of a game as hoi4 or victoria 2 then he would play it more often, as it stands though he only plays it whenever paradox is releasing a new dlc. Same goes for ck3. He even accused me of not watching any of his content and not knowing what channel I was on. In reality I've seen pretty much his entire hoi4 mp playlist and I've watched his victoria 2 playlist at least 3 times. I've noticed a pattern in how nowadays companies marketing teams do the majority of their advertising by paying streamers/youtubers to make content for their games. It's so obvious when the creator just makes a random video about some new game thats about to release talking it up as the best thing ever and then never play it again and just go right back to their normal stuff.

In my monarchist playthrough, unaligned Portugal rejected the first focus. Communist Portugal accepted the second and flipped themselves to Monarchist. Then, communist Spain attacked (with like 7 divisions), so I got to puppet a large part of Spain as well. It was a very fascinating process.
Damn, that was a straight up reverse Iberian Union. Should have gone for full Latin control at that point lol.
Tbf the DLC has bad reviews mainly due to two reasons:
1. It's a country pack not an expansion, meaning that there are no mechanics for the game outside of South America (which they did on purpose so that only people interested in the South America would buy it)
2. The fact that it is a South America DLC and not something else
I'd argue that it isn't a horrible DLC, however it really isn't worth it if you don't intend to actually play a South American country.
Also Hoi4 desperately needs a custodian team so that old content can be regularly updated, which would take away a lot of criticisms that many of the more recent DLCs get.
