This is the most thorough review of any subaru when it comes to minute details. Gave me a great perspective of what the features are compared to other channels that just breeze over certain aspects of a review.
I considered the touring trim, but I decided to order a 2023 onyx xt and save about $4000. I got Subaru vip pricing and loyalty discount, so I'm only paying $37000 including almost $1000 in accessories. I wanted the heated steering wheel, ventilated seats with thigh extender, etc, but those few features just weren't worth the extra $4k to me. Plus, I'm definitely not a fan of chrome and there's a lot of it on the touring trim. The blacked out onyx is much more my style. I mainly just wanted the turbo engine, so I'm very happy with my choice and the price.
@@SyrupCanuck I actually wound up canceling my Onyx order and buying a Touring XT off the lot, which I very much regret. I paid much more and I don't like the exterior styling look of the Touring because of the chrome. I got pulled in by all the extra features, but I don't need them, should have stuck with the Onyx. That said, the HK sound system is just OK, nothing that special. I suspect the standard audio would be just fine unless you're an audiophile, but you can easily upgrade the speakers.

Nice job covering the long list of features. I just traded a 2013 Forester XT for one of these and I'm very impressed at initial impressions. The ride quality with the longer wheelbase is definitely improved, it's quieter and they have improved the CVT over time to a point where I find it tolerable. Only time will tell how it holds up, my old Forester was a very solid car for me and one of the favorites I ever owned. The AWD system, living on a dirt road with a ton of snow and ice, it's just incredible, of many 4wd vehicles I've owned it is by far the best for dirt roads and snow. I've taken that old Forester in places I had no business taking it and it never let me down.

They look a lot more like fangs on a wild boar to me ;) I know there's been very mixed reception of the facelifted Outback, but I like this new look so much I went and got myself and my wife the Outback Limited XT in Magnetite Grey. In the grey you can barely see the cladding.
Dude!… if the headlights are in auto and the fog lights are off the fog lights will never turn on. They have to be in auto and on otherwise they won’t turn on automatically.
Great review, very informative, a little rushed sometimes but you covered almost everything extraordinarily well. One thing is that the paddle shifters can be invoked in either transmission mode; manual will just hold the ratios where as standard will temporarily change the ratios and then go back to full automatic after a few seconds.
@@703Speed I think you can skip explaining every button and things like this is outer temp. Just say media controls this side and the other important fuctions that aren't as obvious. Then you will have less to cover and won't have to rush. Otherwise great review.

I have a 2020 Forester Sport and the lease is coming up this summer. I am seriously considering getting the Outback XT. I really can't deal with the poor horsepower and performance of the base engine anymore lol. Thank you for the detailed review. The little "Vehicle ahead have moved" warning caught me off-guard in my Forester, too. Definitely a unique feature of EyeSight. Foresters and Outbacks are probably the safest vehicles on the road today. I REALLY want that turbo engine. You got that one at Strohlman's? I live about 15 minutes from there lol. I know exactly what roads you're driving on, good ol' Fairfax County. Those roads are perfect for that vehicle.
Yes, the 2.4 Turbo is A LOT peppier than the base engine and is definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion. Yes, this was from Stohlman Sterling Subaru - great guys over there.. If you are looking for a new Subie, ask for Tyler.. He is great. And yes, this was filmed in Fairfax haha..
3 things. 1st, in my 2020 Outback Touring an iPhone 13 Pro Max in a case will NOT fit into the optional charging pad. 2nd, ONLY the 2022 Outback Touring has that new third Eyesight camera on front window to detect pedestrians and bike riders. I wonder if it will also detect deer. Third, it is hard to believe what you said about the fog lights being turned off even when the fog light switch is turned on, if the “automatic” lights switch is turned on. This seems so idiotic that I wonder how it could possibly be.
When the automatic head lights is turned on, or off, the fog lights will turn off when high beams are on. When the high beams are turned off, the fog lights turn back on.

they can add all the cladding they want, but let's be real, other than a firm, unrutted dirt road or packed gravel road, it does not belong off road. There is too much cladding!
I have the 2022 Outback XT and I only have 2 complaints. No TPMS and no remote start from the key fob (must use the app). Other than these two things it's a great car.
Our rear sensors have failed twice and the rear auto braking failed once and a car pulled in back of our Outback 4 months after owning it and my wife backed into the front fender of another car. Thankfully he was an illegal invader and didn’t speak English well and he didn’t have insurance. He didn’t want the police so my wife left. Subaru can’t seem to fix these problems and now our warranty has ran out so we’re screwed.
I’m not sure if it communicates with Siri, but it can integrate with your phone. You can tell it to “call mom” or play a certain song off your phone. It may use Siri if connected to Apple car play.. But you have to hold the button for a longer time to activate Siri. Short press with be Subaru. But I believe, again, it only works when CarPlay or android auto is connected
@@703Speed Thank You. My current aftermarket Pioneer in my 2015 Outback responds instantly to Android Auto and Google Assistant with the steering wheel touch
We refuse to buy another vehicle with Depressing Grey or Death Black interior colors. Both our Outback and Rav have Ivory and tan leather respectively. Our pickup had Fugly grey and black interior so I had it reupholstered to match the custom 2 toned exterior colors of Red and tan metallic. Once my Rav 4WD Limited wears out I’ll be looking at the Forester Touring so that I can get the brown leather. If Subaru would make a Limited in Ivory leather interior for the Forester Limited, I would buy that instead. It sucks having to pay thousands of dollars more for tan or brown interior colors. Toyota doesn’t do that, so perhaps I’ll buy a Rav AWD hybrid instead.
@@703Speed I still own our 11 Ford Ranger XLT super cab 4.0 V6 4X4. Custom 2 tone paint, custom interior, custom wheels, running boards, skid plates, air shocks, LineX spray in bed liner, undercoating with LineX, a K&N intake and FlowMaster exhaust, ( since installing the exhaust and intake, I now get 23mpg on the freeway with the cruise set on 75mph). @@703Speed yea the Ranger is our 3rd vehicle and only use it for work around our property or on occasions to keep it running so it won’t deteriorate. It’s a sweet little pickup. It’s our 4th Ranger.
I have to agree. I want to keep my car for over 10-15 years. The design of CVT transmissions is inherently unreliable relative to traditional or e-CVT/planetary gear transmissions. They might be good but I feel like I’m always going to worry about it.
The CvT last 100000 miles . Base on research. This prevents me from buying. Wii wait for Mazda CX 70 with a real transmission. Happy Mazda does not follow the herd
Not good but then the back up lights are not that good. The cam on mg gfs 2014 is better in the dark. I think thats the change to the light hoising. I took out the stock bulbs and put leds in. Its slightly better. I plan to add light's to my tow hitch in the spring for backing up.
boom boom boom and boom??????then another boom. oops, another boom. Maybe vehicle should be called the Subaru "Boom." OK another boom and boom and boom and boom and this is just in the first seven minutes. Maybe this is Channel Boom on you tube. Might want to count up all the times he says "guys" and then channel can be the GUY BOOM channel.
Does that have a CVT? or a REAL transmission (6 speed or so) CVTs are NOtoriously TRASH... and it kills it for me.. shame too- I liked that car. WHAT ABOUT RELIABILITY RATING? I might over look the CVT if it does well enough on that... you say 0-60 in 5. .. something seconds- not bad-- I'm not a hot rodder- but I do like snappy.
I also set out to avoid CVT's, but what I'm finding is almost every car that would fit my needs has some kind of major dealbreaker, including problematic traditional auto transmissions. So I'm now considering taking a chance on a CVT if the car checks enough boxes otherwise. Car shopping is frustrating these days.
@@bradh6185 I'm finding out now that it's only certain NISSANS with CVTs that have the issues- and the others are doing ok... So , I agree- it's a problem trying to figure out either way.
I’m sorry but that new wrap around plastic cladding on the front bumper is non functional and does nothing but collect dust and dirt and everyone knows how much brown dirt looks like crap up against black plastic. I’m having mine painted to match the exterior color
@@mobytech8603 I had a vehicle’s cheap plastic bumper painted to match the exterior color many years ago. It looked very nice as I had it done at a body shop. Our current Outback is a 2019, as is our Forester.
I have the 2021 Touring XT, autumn green metallic / brown leather .. 20,000 trouble free driving so far .. I’ve got used to the CVT and how to get the best out of it … Hoping I’ll be able to get the updated firmware for the head unit at some point … love the updated electronic rear view mirror. A very capable and flexible offering with good performance , luxury , technology and value .. Unfortunately seems like the $ has increased almost 5k since my purchase .. still a great vehicle imho..
It's interesting. I'm a truck driver. I drive 500 miles per day. Each day, I see fewer than 5 people camping in the left lane. But what I see at least 50 times a day(and I think it's a very conservative estimate) is people speeding up to tailgate people who are making a safe, legal pass.

@@703Speed Thank You. My current aftermarket Pioneer in my 2015 Outback responds instantly to Android Auto and Google Assistant with the steering wheel touch
I think it looks good. It would be nice if it had some kind of dash camera. 😀
I’d like to see a 360 degree camera for the 2024 model year
Why does it have a cd player? I thought most new cars did away with these? Does it ally dvds too? Curious on this
I don’t think it allows for dvd’s. It’s always nice to have a cd player for those people that still use cd’s. My uncle still used cd’s in his F150
@dennisscottone6407, I have a 2019 and it has a CD player. Most manufactuers did away with them. Thank God Subaru didn't. I still play CD's.
What is a cd my great grandfather talked about them back in the 1900s
Lol
Fair enough.. What kind of pick up did you have?
@@703Speed I still own our 11 Ford Ranger XLT super cab 4.0 V6 4X4.
Custom 2 tone paint, custom interior, custom wheels, running boards, skid plates, air shocks, LineX spray in bed liner, undercoating with LineX, a K&N intake and FlowMaster exhaust, ( since installing the exhaust and intake, I now get 23mpg on the freeway with the cruise set on 75mph).
We only have 35K original miles.
@@Doc1855 35K original miles?? That's crazy.. but awesome.. Cool that you made it your own.. That's what its all about
@@703Speed yea the Ranger is our 3rd vehicle and only use it for work around our property or on occasions to keep it running so it won’t deteriorate.
It’s a sweet little pickup. It’s our 4th Ranger.
Beautiful vehicle, too bad I can't afford it 😥
You will get one one day! You can do it
How are these cars in snow? I'm in New England.
I’d guess they’d do well. I havent driven one in the snow. Maybe an experience owner may be able to chime in
These are exceptional cars in the snow, given the ground clearance, traction control, and AWD. They’re known for it.
they are super in snow!
@danieldevries3230, I live in New England. The car is like a ski mobile. Great in the snow.
Boom!
If it wasn’t for that bloody CVT
It’s actually a good transmission
I have to agree. I want to keep my car for over 10-15 years. The design of CVT transmissions is inherently unreliable relative to traditional or e-CVT/planetary gear transmissions. They might be good but I feel like I’m always going to worry about it.
The CvT last 100000 miles . Base on research. This prevents me from buying. Wii wait for Mazda CX 70 with a real transmission. Happy Mazda does not follow the herd
I just bought a 2023
Wilderness Outback
Congratulations!
Are you happy with your purchase?
How is the rearview camera at night?
Not sure - I didn't get to drive it at night. Hopefully an owner can give you an answer to that
Not good but then the back up lights are not that good. The cam on mg gfs 2014 is better in the dark. I think thats the change to the light hoising. I took out the stock bulbs and put leds in. Its slightly better. I plan to add light's to my tow hitch in the spring for backing up.
Does it require premium fuel?
Regular is fine
boom boom boom and boom??????then another boom. oops, another boom. Maybe vehicle should be called the Subaru "Boom." OK another boom and boom and boom and boom and this is just in the first seven minutes. Maybe this is Channel Boom on you tube. Might want to count up all the times he says "guys" and then channel can be the GUY BOOM channel.
The challenge to this video is take a shot every time I say boom. It’s a Good Friday night game
@@703Speed You are a good sport, I will subscribe and give thumbs up.
Also heated side mirror button turns on heated wipers, heat element under wipers blades
How is cabin noise?
I think it is very well insulated from the outside
Does that have a CVT? or a REAL transmission (6 speed or so) CVTs are NOtoriously TRASH... and it kills it for me.. shame too- I liked that car. WHAT ABOUT RELIABILITY RATING? I might over look the CVT if it does well enough on that... you say 0-60 in 5. .. something seconds- not bad-- I'm not a hot rodder- but I do like snappy.
This car is pretty snappy.. Yes, I too prefer a regular auto myself
@@davidwayne9982 Yes.
Why do you call it an "Oh poop" handle? Everything but HUD, grrrrr.
Cus if I said O sh!t handle I may get demonetized.. Lol
It’s a really good car. Unfortunately looks like crap from the side and back and I would feel like Ned Flanders driving one
Lol

No comments on boxer engine while driving, compared to inline or v-engine?
Boxer engine is great.. Pulls very hard above 3k RPM... Great low end torque as well
are there skid plates for the model
No - but if you want skid plates, check out the Wilderness Edition.. I have a video of one of those as well
If you want to add skid plates to an XT I would like at the ones made by Primitive. They make better skid plates than the ones Subaru puts out.
@@703Speed I buy a car for 50K almost I would like to have skid plates under the engine and components
Super!!!
No cd player?
It has one, just under the center fold down arm rest. 17:11 is the timestamp
Thanks; it is now perfect
Enough with the 'BOOM'
Down Boom!
Can’t wrap my head around all the plastic cladding. Ugly. Subaru trying way to hard to force what they feel their brand is.
I think they should make the cladding an option. A lot of people don’t like it
THERE ARE NO GEARS--- that's TRASH... NOTORIOUS about going bad FAST..
I’m sorry but that new wrap around plastic cladding on the front bumper is non functional and does nothing but collect dust and dirt and everyone knows how much brown dirt looks like crap up against black plastic. I’m having mine painted to match the exterior color
Paint matching the cladding would look sweet!
Did you have this done yet? Cost? How does it look? Picture?j
@@mobytech8603 I had a vehicle’s cheap plastic bumper painted to match the exterior color many years ago.
It looked very nice as I had it done at a body shop.
Our current Outback is a 2019, as is our Forester.
Boom, I'm out.
What’s up RUclips! How cheesy!
Dude, the left lane camping is not cool. Pass or move the f over.

Lol, I usually don't

You sound like a fellow Northern Virginian. As one myself, YEAH, MOVE OVER!! :D
Why are you describing what we can see with our own eyes,. please accept this as constuctive criticism.
What are you referring to that I’m describing? I appreciate the constructive criticism - it helps make the channel better
You were talking and moving around too fast. We can see that "you" know about all of the features, but as a new owner or prospective owner, we don't know much about the car. I thought this video would teach us something, but I guess not.
What did you want to know about that I didn’t cover?
@@703Speed You covered everything but if you were a teach/reviewer you would have spend a few seconds on each feature instead of 4 features in 5 seconds. I just couldn't keep up
