    I was given a useful tip for holding loose paint blocks into pans, and it's worked for my loose ones so far: use a blob of masking fluid as glue. Just a small blob on the bottom of the paint, or the bottom of the pan, and it dries and holds them in place. It doesn't affect the paint, and can eventually be cleared out of the pan.

    Neat collection! I don't have so many or they are different types: inktense pans, pastels, gouache, graphitint and a modest set of metallic. They spark joy which is what is all that is about. Have a great week and see you on Friday, Miranda

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  2 года назад +4

      Less is better, actually. I just can't resist trying things out and then I end up keeping most of them. But it does kind of stress me out that I have beautiful colors and palettes that I'm not using very much just because I can't get to them all. But I currently have room for them, and I did decide to let go of the Koi and one other that I can't currently remember. It's written down at home. I enjoy Inktense and I have the pencils and blocks. Have a great week!

    Awesome watercolour palette update! It has been two years since I did this too. I don't think I've ever seen Prang Watercolours in Australia - the sparkly ones look really fun! You should definitely try the flippy-out paints, they are pretty good! It's still disappointing that the Schpirerr Farben paints are fugitive. 😭 I like that you have sets for your family to use; Van Gogh is a good choice. I don't think it is actually possible to run out of watercolour paints - they are close to being infinite. 😂 Oh noooo, I am so gutted for you having the Daniel Smith pans fall out everywhere! 😱 I love that you have so many paint sets that are different to my own, and seeing your amazing collection makes me want to pull out all of mine and use them all. So much stuff to do and not enough time to do it!

    I recommend wall tack, like Blu Tack, to hold all your pans in your palettes. It is easily removable and keeps pans from moving or coming out. Use Gum arabic to “glue” in the paints that fell out.

    Thanks Miranda, first video of yours, subscribed.
    I collect a lot. Today I got rid of things I don't like, or aggravate me. A huge task.
    I am happier I don't have the guilt, regret, bad choice, too bright, too sticky, yucky ones.
    I had too many annoying small palettes, so most of these are going, a lot of sparkly ones I don't like.
    Will give these away by post to people without paints, women in crisis whom I helped and said I would send them something in March. A bit behind! Better late than never right? I don't think it matters if they are used or not, particularly if I give them artist quality, handmades, and some new ones.
    I cut out spare dot cards and add them to a large full pans, with also some to give away.
    All of my pans fit into one cabinet. I lay my tubes out flat on a huge kind of tray, with slots and cardboard, or plastic dividers. I like to have the order. I know, right how annoying when they all fall out, particularly twice at the park.

    PS I think it was great that you got the Qors to fit in the portable palette!
    I don't have one, tend to prefer metal tins and magnet clips while out.
    PPS One thing you can do is use a glue stick and wet tissue, on the palettes to prevent staining and beading. Do this to plastic or metal at any stage. It doesn't scratch the surface. Rubbing alcohol is good to clean them out, a stiff brush.
    PPPS Some favourites;
    Qor Paynes grey moves like swoosh. Want to do a large A1 abstract with it and one other colour?
    Misty morning Roman Szmal is memorable, will buy another pan.
    A few of the granulating greens/browns from Schmincke

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  2 года назад +1

      Welcome, Eliza, I'm glad you're here! I love that you went through your art supplies and yes, better late than never on getting them sent off. It sounds like looking at the way you organize your paints would be really enjoyable - seeing them all out like that - I love it. Can you explain what you do with the glue stick and wet tissue? I love QoR's Paynes Grey. A large abstract with it and one other color would be delightful. I also love that Misty Morning from Roman Szmal. I'm new to Schminke, so I can't comment much on those yet. Thanks, Eliza!

      @@MirandaWatsonArt
      So clean your palette first with rubbing alcohol, or water, or on a new palette;
      Then get any glue stick, turn it upside down, and apply glue to the palette surface in your mixing areas.
      Then with a damp to wet tissue, wipe it around, and off, leaving a thin application that is not seen or felt. It can be roughly done, or where it doesn't look like anything is on. When you go to use your palette it stops the beading and staining.
      Schmincke are Pigmented but not overwhelming, reliable, fun, classic, and the granulating ones are modern and addictive.
      In kindred spirit,
      Eliza

    I have one of the little palettes with 16 wells, silicone layer, and collapsible water cup. I've had it for several years. I set it up with a mix of brands of watercolors. This past year, I got a second to try with gouache. This one came with an attachable strap that would allow you to carry it on your shoulder. Haven't tried it that way yet. Put strap in a "safe" place. Any strap with clips would work. Not sure what it would be like to carry wet paint that way.
    I really enjoyed seeing your palettes. I get drawn to palettes that look like they would work for plein air. My favorite palette is the Expeditionary Art pocket palette. I have a limited palette of ten Daniel Smith colors and two good sized mixing areas.
    Thank you again for sharing your "toys".

    I was thinking why dont you make smaller palettes for your huge amount of Daniel smith watercolors like you did for your mission gold paints, so you dont get overwhelmed when using them and can enjoy them more...the portable palette would be a good place to start since you are looking for which paints to put in there- why not pick 12 out of your Daniel Smith palette? And then maybe make themed or color focus or lightfast smaller palettes out of the rest? Anyway great video, thanks for sharing, much ❤

    • @MirandaWatsonArt

      I originally wanted to keep them all together, but the more time that goes by, the more that I think your suggestion is a GREAT one! These paints are so beautiful and easy to use, and I'd love to get my QoR out of that palette and back into their original tin, so putting Daniel Smith back in it is a really good idea. Plus I'm pretty sure I'm getting rid of the Niji pans in that small metal palette, so that would free it up for another DS palette. Hmm... I think I see a video or two in our future about this... :-D Thanks!
