I'm currently building a Voron 0 mod with aluminium parts and no hot end fan intended for high temperature prints. The hotend is cooled by a small compressor, it uses a bowden extruder to keep almost any critical part out of the chamber. Plus a double glazed enclosure. All parts I needed to design myself I could easily do from the available CAD files. Even laser cutting the windows was pretty easy using those files.
You just have so much freedom in doing things that most machines don't have. Not even a Prusa since you'd have to use your own firmware and lose warranty. Because it uses standard parts everywhere you can always repair anything without being dependand on an OEM.
I think I replied with the wrong account. Haha. Yeah, it’s very addicting. Modifying the Trident to make it do exactly what I want was awesome. The V0.2 shortly after. Now I’m building a Micron+ and going to try multi toolhead. ;)
I agree wholeheartedly with your reasoning, I feel like I have a deeper understanding of how printers work by building one. I have always felt that to fix anything you have to have an understanding of the theory of how something works to effectively troubleshoot an issue. It can be confounding but there is a great community of people always willing to lend their expertise. There lies another huge benefit, the Voron community. But if you don't like to tinker, that's more than ok too
The community. There's so many mods, tweaks, macros all centered around the Vorons.
I recently found the RatRig. I llike it better than Voron.

How difficult is it to build and install/configure a Voron? I'm very good at building computers. I am not a Coder and don't really understand how to move around and get what I need inside of Github.
That’s why I do the livestreams. It think it’ll help some folks looking to get into this to see what its like to build in real time. All the way to first print. You get to see the problems that come up, solutions, etc.
Voron can't do IDEX or can it?
Sure can. Even Multi tool changing.
I was hoping that with the likes of Bambu entering the market, the price of Voron kits would be coming down. Oh well, I'd love to build one but IMHO the prices for quality kits are still too high.
This is something we all want, for sure. There is just SO MUCH inside these kits. Hardware wise, it'll be hard to reduce it even more.
