Many years ago as a kid me and my dad fished that spot for many years and there use to be loads of fish In that area. It hasn't been the same since then but glad to hear they have put more fish in the river it's definitely needed 🎣🎣🎣
Nice vid Rob. Good to see a few coming out of the Ely, my daughter and I walked it last year but thought it a bit dangerous for me to fish as an oldie owing to the banks being very steep in most places. We are members so perhaps in the summer when the banks are dry we could give it a go. Keep up the good work. Cheers Jim
Hello James, There is a shallow area further up from the bridge. Past where I fished. Did not really investigate as the graffiti from some of the locals on the subway put me off.
Hi i fished the river yesterday at st Georges and im going back today would you say thats a good spot? Im just getting into freshwater fishing and have been having no luck
This is the area a lot of chub and barbel were released 2 years ago. Let me know how you get on. As I have only fished the Ely once a lot further downstream. Good luck tight lines.
@user-tb2tf5xx4e Sorry the river was unfishable. It has been frustrating for anyone who likes doing outside sport. Almost 4 months of rain with just the odd dry day. Remember it's closed for coarse fishing on rivers on the 14 th of March. The rivers in Wales and England are given a break until the 16th June.
I have fished quite a few rivers in the past. These include the River Usk, River Wye, River Monnow, River Taff and River Rhymney. Worms are a usual safe bet. However they do attract eels. You can catch a few fish but, usually it is not as good as when it fines down. Rivers are best fished when it's dropping and when there is a bit of color still left in the river.

This is worth knowing. As you will have seen from the video. I've absolutely no idea where the best spots are.

Nice dace rob, at least you know there is some decent fish in there mate.
I hope to return later in the year. I will then target the better fish. Surely there must be better sized fish than the ones I caught in there?
