Pure gold. A lot of this stuff is not just good for striking, but also to stay healthy /avoid injury. Already feeling the difference after 1 week. Walking around with less pain from old football injuries. Thanks for posting . Subscribed
I agree these guys are true professionals this fills another Gap in the area of our training trying to be better martial artist or boxers... I loved it I would like to subscribe and learn from this guy damn.. And hey... This guy is 20 years younger than me and I'm learning from him LOL... He's very Advanced and knowledgeable and accurate
Just look at his upper body and then how quickly he moves in and out with his jabs, that says it all. I'll subscribe to his channel. Thanks for the referral. Phil Daru knows his business. I'll let him know that you sent me.
Cannot express my appreciation enough. Coming together as one to share information to everyone. Knowledge really is power and both have shared it in abundance.
This video just felt like a must see as soon as he started explaining his first sets of reasons for a movement. Thank you sir. Hope to put these exercises to good work
You're probably one of the most humble coaches on RUclips! Your spirit of collaboration, & your TOP NOTCH training videos, are why I love your channel so much! This USMC Desert Storm Vet says, "Semper Fi", brother!
Man you can really see why Phil is such a sought-after Coach not jus because of his workouts but because he really breaks it down into a physical sense of WHY doing it correctly will produce and the force needed to add power in your technique.
Another Great Post Coach Sir. Phil D is a legend, I’ll be trying some of these on my strength and conditioning days for sure. Cheers. Here’s hoping that you and all of your loved ones are remaining healthy and safe during this time of Global Covid Craziness Coach. Kindest regards, David from Toronto Peace
Best boxing video's on RUclips i could find. I am impessed by the way boxing is explaned. I understand boxing so much better. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Greatings from the netherlands...
Very interesting video Jason, lots of good information from Phil Daru. I'm a typical person, not competition fighter or a strength coach, but I do train 3 days a week and lift for 4. Here is what I found most helpful from this video that I will be adding into my routine: Windshield wipers with the barbell. Lateral bounds (jumps). Using a medicine ball. Sumo deadlift instead of stiff-legged. I would like to hear your thoughts on some of the following exercises in my lifting routine that I have personally tailored to my boxing routine: (Arms) Bench press with bands for speed (3 reps,); (Obliques) Windshield wipers inverted on a chin-up bar; (Speed) Using a band to throw hooks; (Legs) Weighted box jumps, depth jumps; (Hips) Tire flips; (Neck & Back) Kip-ups; (Rotator Cuff) External rotations, band/dumbbell; (Obliques) Rotational leg raises; (Wrists) Walking on the hands, handstands; (Obliques) Woodchoppers. My personal philosophy is to focus on my weakest points, like my neck and my rotator cuffs, but also to maximize force production through speed and power. The best way that I've found to increase my power has been to increase my range of motion, but also to incorporate bands and produce a maximal force under a submaximal load. How many boxers do you know that don't want to lift because lifting heavy is slowing them down and hurting their recovery period?
American Top Team is the greatest gym I've ever joined(Asheville N.C.), I've been a member for 2 years now and my boxing Coach is Chris Swatelle. They really make you feel like family and know great techniques. I'm thinking about going back into kickboxing, but right now I have really been locking in my stand up game. I definitely encourage anyone out there to join American Top Team it's worth the investment. 1, 2, 3, TOP TEAM!!!!
He prefers the sumo deadlift because it fits **his** body type (long femur, short torso, long arms). For someone with another body type, the optimal deadlift variant will be different. Loading an exercise in a way that's not optimal for your individual body structure is going to lead to problems. The bottom line is, don't jump into heavy lifting because some guy on the internet tells you to, however qualified that person is. Find a lifting coach who has the experience and can look at you **in person** and make the necessary adjustments and can give you individual feedback on form, progressions, and programming.
Sumo deadlift is the best for strength and explosive more, stiff leg deadlift/ nomanian/conventional. .. is for mass Hex-bar deadlift is more for athleticism
It never hurts to be stronger but these exercises won't make you punch harder. If you want to punch harder then increase your forearm/overall grip strength, punch a heavier bag, practice sitting down on your punches and throwing hard shots, and perfect your technique. It's not hard at all. Look at every fighter that has hit hard in history. Most have ripped forearms relative to size, have excellent technique ie putting bodyweight into the punch, and practice punching hard a lot. But don't just take my word for it. Try it yourself. Imo a guy that lost all of his fights against local competition isn't the best source considering he's pretty biased towards weight training.
Everything that guy said made sense and very good have some respect people I would like to subscribe to learn about this exercises... He is very very knowledgeable even more than I am over the musculoskeletal system and exercises for your specific sport... I would like to learn some more from this guy and add it to my style
Unbelievable, one of Daru's video's was recommended to me, I took one look at that beard and subbed immediately, then watched the vid. Guys blowing up, great content
Hey JT, what´s up? I am an amateur runner and i like boxing. Would you incorporate boxing training on non running days? My main focus is strenghtening my entire body to be a better runner and not getting injured ( I´ve been having some kind of soreness lately) And in that case, how would you incorporate it and what kind of exercises would you do? And the reason why i´m asking you this is because i like boxing, and all other type of trainings like cross fit or weight training ( gym ) is kind of a boring to me.
Shawn King really got fit.J/K.I boxed amateur in AU for 10 yrs. This may sound strange but they teach punching power comes from your lat muscles.Power lifters work lats only because it helps explode the bench press off their chest to get it into motion. And if you look at the physical structure of boxers they all have big lats.Look like a flying squirrel.

the best form of execise for increasing punching power is punching
Except you can't really apply progressive overload to punching. Which is where these exercises come in.
How can this be true? You have boxers with very little power, im sure they are punching daily.
