What I didn't like about this video is the total absence of any concrete numbers. How much more vitamins these people took 1000%? 2000%? Perhaps 10000%? Because it certainly wasn't something as simple as 25% more.

Always take D3 not D2. Our bodies have to convert D2 into D3 before it can even use it. Also be sure to take the co factors of D. Taking D causes calcium to absorb 20x more from food and vitamins. Without the co factors you end up in trouble with soft tissue calcifications in your joints (causing arthritis and osteo issues) and arteries (causing strokes and heart attacks). Vitamin K2 ensures the D/calcium goes into the bones where it belongs, preventing the soft tissue calcifications. Taking D lowers mag so magnesium is one of Ds co factors also. There are 9 forms. Stay away from citrate and oxide as they are the cheap forms that do nothing but cause loose stools and gi issues. Take a good form like malate, taurate or glycinate. I do malate in the am as it gives energy and helps with pain, then at night I do glycinate as it promotes relaxation and calm. Also, when taking D another co factor is Vitamin A. It helps prevent you from going toxic on D.

Thank you for the anecdotal evidence of the damage vitamins can cause, especially the vitamin C.
Let me add my anecdotal evidence about taking vitamins. In the eighties I was catching cold 4 to 5 times a year, so I was concerned about my job. Finally I decided to take at least 2 grams of vitamin C every day, and soon my friends started to say that I was never sick. This was an exaggeration of course. I've been taking same amount for at least thirty years, so it wasn't THAT deadly - for me at least.
The motivation to try this much vitamin came from my friend who was diagnosed with MS, which is basically a death sentence. He was a born researcher, found surprising information at the university's library, and started to experiment with up to 50 grams (50,000 mg!) of vitamin C daily among other things. The only undesired side-effect was that he frequently had to visit the the bathroom. He is alive today with a very much reduced vitamin C intake!
This video about the possible negative effects of the vitamins would feel more honest if you would compare it with the deadliness of some of the over the counter medications, such as aspirin, otherwise it feels like you have a hidden agenda.

All my blood work is perfect. I’m 60 years old, and everyone thinks I’m in my 40s. The fact it that we cannot get all our nutrients from our denatured and adulterated foods.

I bought a bottle of niacin way back when I was smoking pot because I thought I had an upcoming drug test and I heard that niacin could help "clean you out" if taken a sufficient amount of time before the test. I didn't even take very much, three pills, and about twenty minutes later I felt like all my skin was on fire. I turned red and had a bunch of little red bumps pop up too. It was uncomfortable enough to be pretty painful. My friend had told me to take twice that many and I'm really glad I didn't listen because if that sensation had gotten much worse I would have started to claw my skin right off my body.

There was no clinical link between vitamin C supplementation and the illness in the example in this video.
Vitamin C has been given in high doses to hundreds of thousands of patients since the 1930s with great benefit and no adverse effects.
Vitamin C is one of the least toxic substances known. According to the therapeutic index, a lethal dose is 50 (LD50-the dose at which 50 percent of the subjects would die). The therapeutic index of vitamin C for an average-sized adult taking 1 gram is 350, which indicates a high degree of safety.
The claim that vitamin C supplementation causes kidney stones is not valid because kidney stones are not found in people who take large amounts of vitamin C regularly over many years. There is also no tangible clinical data linking consumption of vitamin C in high doses with stone formation. The theoretical effect that vitamin C will increase oxalate excretion and cause kidney stones has not been observed. Although vitamin C does increase the production of oxalate in the body there's no evidence that it also increases stone formation.
Wild primates consume human equivalent of between 2-7 grams of vitamin C daily every day of their lives.
    They are healthy.

  • @czzc2369

synthetic versus natural vitamins - especially with Vitamin C an important factor. Synthetic Vitamin C is not really Vitamin C because VC in nature always appears as a Vitamine C Complex... synthetic Vitamin C is in fact just the outer layer (ascorbic acid) of this Complex and is way less efficient and can cause issues because of that.

This video is an interesting perspective on vitamins though totally incomplete. The person is correct that one has to study this field better to gain a better understanding. However, there are a lot of things left out of this video that are VERY IMPORTANT. First, you have to start with what kind of vitamin E or D you are taking. Vitamin dL-tocopherol is derived from artificial substances and is not easily converted into the body. Can the body even use it? Then you have to compare it to d-tocoperol and alpha , beta , gamma forms. Vitamin D2 is not the right form. My Mother-in law was deficient in vitamin D so she took the wrong form and guess what.....she still had low blood levels of vitamin d. Second, yes there are studies to show that vitamins do help with cancer and other aliments. BUT DID YOU EVEN LOOK or just throw up your hands and say that is not true. I question the integrity of this individual whether or not he is being paid by big pharma or just is new to all this info. If you really want to know about vitamins check out information by Dr. Joe Wallach. It is b/c of his work that folate helps prevent birth defects such as Spina Bifida for example. And he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine but the FDA won't give it to him. In fact they sued him dozens of times and he won every time. Hmmmm.....Go figure.

As with many things health related the issues are complex. I would like your opinion on using vitamins intermittently and fasting to create hormetic nutrient stress. I use a strategy of intermittent fasting with nutritional supplementation only on workout days, mostly to enhance metabolic rate-limiting elements eg. Mg augmented with an expansive amount of natural polyphenols eg. mushrooms, fruits, veg. Additionally, I do prolonged fasts normally 5 days. Even though I have been doing this for years I am still working out the optimum refeeding protocol. I think a big part of the problem is to think we should need to find one-dimensional static system answers and not look at optimizing a dynamical system.

Most of the RDIs have been calculated in already metabolically sick populations and/or people with specific dietary & lifestyle habits. Most RDIs are probably observed averages in people that are not obviously sick, but being metabolically sick is not always obvious.
Maybe the RDIs are not accurate for everyone? Possibly some of the RDIs are incorrect for everyone.
I have been taking 5000 IU vitamin D3 (with a K2 supplement) for a few years. My serum levels are top of the suggested range, but not over. That assumes the suggested serum range is accurate.
Vitamin D stores in fat, so if you are losing weight, you might release more and may need to consume or make less. This storage in fat is also why vitamin D can become toxic in very high doses. Your 4000 IU is not even close to a high dose.
There is also the consideration that the RDI for vitamin D originally had a mistake in the calculation pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28768407/
It is now suggested that 5000 IU for an adult is absolutely fine, possibly it could be as high as 8000 IU. Get some good sun for even a relatively short time and you could generate a lot of vitamin D.
Then consider that many RDIs could be wrong. People on carnivore diets do not appear to need any other sources of vitamin C. The more carbs you eat, the more vitamin C you need to compete with those carbs. On a low carb or carnivore diet, meat contains enough vitamin C for what the body needs. As long as you don't overcook your meat.

That's when you get calcium build up in the blood. The rda of vitamin d at 600 iu's continues to be controversial as far as I have been lead to believe; it's too low. I take 1000 iu's everyday. • @kerstonhuston540
      @kerstonhuston540 2 года назад +26

Like most things dealing with the body, it depends on the person. For instance, the daily recommended amount of Vitamin D is 600 IU for adults, but the safe upper limit before most start to see negative effects is listed as 4,000 IU per day.
If possible, it's best to have a blood test done to know exactly where you stand, but negative effects from most vitamins are only seen at very high dosages. For people, like me, with more melanin in their skin. Vitamin D is absorbed poorly from the sun so it's very hard to get the daily amount from sun exposure and near impossible in the winter months (then add in increased cancer chances that come with more sun). If I'm not getting enough vitamin D in my diet I'm going to need a larger dosage than someone with fair skin, who spends a lot of time in the sun, and eats lots of salmon.

Many times the balance between nutrients are just as important, so taking a supplement (that is not in it's natural whole food form as a package with other vitamins) can throw off the balance.
