      Im looking at buying a couple of dozen damp proof rods. Have a slight damp ( visible) / cold issue on wall behind sofa. 2 metres length only 12 inch height . Its a mid supporting wall. Not serious but needs attention. I can get under the floor easy enough...plenty of space. We recently had whole room re Plastered so i cant see where mortar course is above the skirting boards. Ive learned so much recently due to your expertise

      Death no it’s not roofing felt it’s called DryFlex Membrane. You don’t wait for anything drying. No pva needed skim straight on to it.

    Question . Trapping the water/moisture behind the sheeting , isn't that still a problem as water will still build up from whence it came? Water will just take a different route or just build up.

    • @dampsam

      As we were doing the inside the chimney and roof were being worked on. This was part of the preservation work process. This system is the type A barrier system in its simplest form.

    • @dampsam

      A structural report was done on the property they found all the issues on the roof. as we were doing the video the roofers were at work fixing all the problems above. You always need the structural stuff sorting out first. Thanks for your input.

    Hi Simon, if I were to use this method would I have to skim or could you just wallpaper over it? And could I just cover the damp area or would I have to do the whole wall?

    Hi Simon, always enjoy the videos but can you tell me.....What in your opinion was the cause of the problem (s) initially.... and what has been done to fix them...prior to your recommended proceedures of covering / replacing, the damaged plasterwork?

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  6 лет назад

      ningis21 the chimney was uncapped for all its life but also there was a hole in and around the flashing area and the roofers were up there as we were doing the inside work. When the inside of the chimney gets wet the sulphate salts migrate to the surface of the plaster and once there they are hygroscopic so will absorb moisture from the air. If they become wet enough they can dissolve and move around the room in humid conditions, this is known as being delinquent.
      Thanks for enjoying the vids have a great rest of the day.

  • @JackSmith-kp2vs

    And here is what’s wrong with modern building techniques. Doesn’t solve the issue just hides it for someone else to deal with further down the line. The problem is that walls need to breath, you don’t solve a damp problem by hiding it

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  2 года назад +1

      It’s isolating salts if you listen to what we say we always tell customers to fix the cause. These issues had been fixed but the plaster was left contaminated with sulphate salts. This was the last piece to be fixed

    • @JackSmith-kp2vs
      @JackSmith-kp2vs 2 года назад +1

      @Damp Sam HNC CSRT CSSW
      Yes but the problem is invariably that the walls have been covered with non breathable gypsum and paint. All you are doing in this video is hiding a damp area with a barrier so it won’t show. This will cause more issues in the internal walls. Surely a breathable plaster like lime and a clay based paint is all that’s needed to deal with the salt build ups in an old wall

    Looked on the site where you purchase this system, and they say once the membrane has
    set, it is ready for bonding or hardwall before being skimmed. Why have you skimmed straight
    over the membrane?

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 года назад +1

      Hi thanks for watching, because the also say it can be skimmed straight on to it, when it first came out they had promo stuff showing it being skimmed onto. Also if you think logically finish would stick better to it than backing plaster.

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for watching, again please go read up about the system which is a barrier system which have to be used to stop the sulphates. The chimney and roof had previous issues that were fixed so this system cuts down on mess hacking off plaster and applying a different barrier system. Lime plaster still gets affected by sulphate salts so would not be an option.

  • @scottjameseaton5503
    @scottjameseaton5503 4 года назад

    Nope.
    Chop off .salt neutralise.tank or anti salt plaster
    Then at least can mention equal plaster depths to dado

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 года назад +1

      Scott james eaton yes that’s another method and has the same end product by creating a barrier to stop the salts, hacking off creates lots of dust and mess and as the plaster is sound unwarranted. There is nothing wrong with sticking to one system but the reason safeguard brought out The DryFlex system is to give us in the business choices. You can still charge the same price and get the work done cleaner and quicker.
