This song is so emotional in the first place, but this live version is just on another level, as far as the emotion in the their voices, and the way they interact. It's like their souls are intertwined.
Oh PLEASE do more Ren reactions! And a playlist for Ren would be really helpful. Your reactions are always great. Would love to see more of them to Rens back catalogue too. Keep up the good work. Love from the U.K ❤
The first time I heard this I was so enthralled and taken with it that at the end I felt gutted that I would never again be able to hear it for the first time. That has never happened to me before with any song ever. It's truly a special thing. As is Ren.
This song was for his friend that committed suicide, who was lost from jumping off a bridge into un-swimmable waters. The friend put out a text (group I believe, to closest friends) that he was at the bridge and couldn't handle life anymore, Ren was the closest and rushed there in the middle of the night but was too late, his body was never found. Some people are saying this performance was on that bridge, others have stated it's a random bridge in the area over the same waters. Ren recounted the story on the Knox interview, but did not confirm the location of this video shoot. Ren's first album was dedicated to him, Freckled Angels, which was his nickname/term of affection, another in their circle of friends opened a restaurant that is doing quite well also named Freckled Angels. ✌💚 FYI: Not sure about the U.K. but all those in the U.S. a new national emergency number was implemented last fall, without a lot of fanfare, it's similar to 911 but instead it is 988, it is a 24/7/365 hotline with trained mental health workers and medical professionals for any life crisis someone might be going through, especially if you're having thoughts of harming yourself or taking your own life. PLEASE share the number every chance you get. Here is the website with more info if needed... 988lifeline.org/current-events/the-lifeline-and-988/ NOTE: The former suicide hotline is still intact, it just routes to this number now, just incase you have that and don't remember 988.
Yes, you were visibly totally into it. Love it when you get overwhelmed by emotion, these are one of you best reactions 😀. And I think many people before said that this is about the suicide of one of Ren's best friends. You should definitely check Chinchilla and you should know that she also produces her own music. "Fingers (live for Hunger TV)" for her vocals, "Elements" for something original quite Hip-Hop influenced and "Little Girl Gone" for a real fire banger!
Yeah, same. Both are awesome. Chinchilla, in this live version just stands out so much more and I just love her voice. And the reverb on the high notes...OMG the tingles.
I love all three of you and will continue to support all of you! Thank you for another wonderful reaction. This is one of my favourites. Some mentioned Chinchilla's live version of her song 'Fingers' for Hunger TV. That is stunning. I also love her song Elements, there is a lyric video for that one that is almost a normal video. And Ren, would you like some more awesome singing? Did you check out the Big Push's 'I Shot the Sherriff / Road to Zion / Hip Hop' Cover yet? Or their cover of Bongo Bong? Or maybe one of their originals, like 'Precious' or 'Sweet Little Lady'? Both versions are great in that one.
I appreciate how respectful you are of the songs, giving them your full sttention, and not pausing them to interject some inane observations like so many others do.
I agree, much appreciated. The amount of reactors that pause right at the first humming line just to make a stupid comment about her nails, is so infuriating. I don’t mind when they want to pause, but some need read the room a little.
I think it may have been in a recent interview, or maybe it was on his social media, where Ren sounded a little bemused that his audiences tend to prefer the live versions when he has put so much effort into the production on the studio versions. He should really take it as a compliment that he is able to capture the emotion of his songs so well with his compelling live performance (his studio versions are great too, just not as raw)
This live performance is so powerful and therapeutic. Thank you for your honest and respectful reaction. I lost my brother to overdose a few weeks ago and have been watching this performance over and over because I feel like I can connect to him through it. His name was Nick and I love and miss him so much.
The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/HipHop - is an awesome vid to react of ren and his talented band busking on the streets of Brighton or Bongo Bong
Rens Live Versions are always Better than the studio versions, not to say there is anything wrong with the Studio versions just Ren comes Alive for Live Performances, probably something to do with years of Busking. The Live Acoustic Version of Animal Flow is Epic you have to watch that one.
It looks like you haven't done Chinchilla's Fingers - Live for Hunger TV. It's a crazy performance; she's a whole other artist of her own. It's on her channel if you're interested.
Dude Sleep Token dropped their 3rd album Take Me Back To Eden today ! A great and emotionnal experiance overall, closing the trilogy that Sundowning from 2019 started.
Love that you got to do this version too Sean. So bloody powerful. We're pretty fortunate to be experiencing such good artistry. Speaking of artistry, is that your track in the intro and outro?
Such a powerful performance. I simply can’t listen to the studio version. By comparison it’s emotionless. I’ve thought long and hard about the opening verses and currently I’m thinking the bed that he’s not safe in, the bruised walls and bodies in the floors and the tomb he wants to leave is his own body. The reference to Joe’s suicide at the end reinforces that for me. Wonderful reaction again.
You should check out the live acoustic version of Genesis. Totally different vibe from the music video. Much edgier and he actually scats the part you didn't like
Rens stuff seems always better live, and a lot of it is that studio recordings are just sterile. There's an authenticity to his music that live only enhances. What impresses me most about this song is the dynamic range of the recording. Nowadays with everything being "bandwidth compressed" for crappy mobile devices and radio play, with producers trying to out-shout each-other, it's rare to hear the delicate nuance vocalists like Ren and Chinchilla are capable of. The ending of this one hits me hard as it reminds me of a decade ago where I lost three close friends in rapid succession. Two to ALLEGED suicides that were MORE than sus (one he went on a panicked social media spree saying the cops were coming to kill him), and another who just neglected himself to death because his family were a bunch of jackasses in the months after his mother passed. Two of those friends were half my age at the time. All three were well known and respected in the tech community. When he gave up the fight. A quick decision late in the night. That stayed with me, all of my life. I miss you so.
@@sammyd8860 Thank you for correcting me. I’d read that somewhere and thought it seemed odd to do (where was the traffic?) but then that seems like something unexpected and meaningful that Ren would do.
@@enragedbutterfly No worries Bryan. It has become a bit of an urban myth that it was filmed where Joe died, so I can totally understand that you saw it somewhere else and believed it was true.
My understanding is this is the bridge his friend joe hughes unalived off of. They never found him. Thats who he was speaking of at the end. Joe was 19, ren 20 when this happened. Freckled angels is totally about joe.
Agree about the passion in the live version. I’m a rock and hip hop fan, so the studio version was a little too “soft”. A great song and I’ll listen to it, but the acoustic version makes it to the playlist
I hope you do more Ren since i subbed for reactions to him or Chinchilla. I saw a Dax reaction but havent watched it yet. I hope theres less Nikki Minaj because imo shes not a real artist. I hope one day youll check out more Dax, Hopsin, Upchurch Brodnax and Struggle Jennings.
I am baffled how you haven't given Chinchilla the same attention as you've given Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat. She is clearly leagues more talented than both of them and anything else on the radio. Give her songs a chance. Little Girl Gone. Fingers. MF Diamond, and many more. ✌

did you just DAB the vid? lol hugs all around

I don’t really like the duet in Chalk Outlines but this is a master class in dueting.
This was about his friend who killed himself and they filmed it where he did it. What a heart wrenching tribute a friend he misses.
This was not filmed on the Menai Bridge where Joe died. It was filmed on the top of a building in a built up city, probably Brighton or London
