Thank you for sharing all this and all your flaws, that's accountability. Btw, I hate war too. I'm glad I couldn't join when I tried. I would've been a little savage. I was always down for the cause with my boys. Fight clubs, skate parks, beer runs. Anything to have a good time. Too bad for me I got into some trouble and got put on a 5 year probation. Not only I watched every second and some parts for a few times, but also every second was loaded with action, lessons, intensity, humbleness, drama and pure humanity. What a motivating peace of art. Thanks for Jocko and Tim for such a masterpiece that can easily be made as a movie, especially the last evac mission. After 30 years of martial arts, I started recently JiuJitsu, tore my bicep tendon and had a short break. Guess what, watching the first 10 minutes of this piece, I felt ashamed to stay put, had to carry my bag and go for another two back to back sessions, Karate. and Jiu jitsu, may be I had some more adrenaline to have a short cardio session. A quick thing Tim mentioned here that I've talked about with family and friends, is about the people who say they want a revolution in the U.S. I've read so many comments on RUclips videos over the years from people saying they want a revolution or second civil war where we're divided by political left and right and winner takes all. As a Marine Infantry combat vet I must say a vast majority of these people have no idea what they're asking for. No one should wish for war. The effects of combat never leave those who actively participate or are directly affected by it.

I can confirm. I’ve worked in two states as a Law Enforcement Officer. I have worked in the tidewater area of Virginia and the pan handle of Florida. During the academy in Florida, they taught more BJJ related defensive tactics. Getting choking unconscious, was a requirement for us to pass DT in Florida. It was also a taught tactic. In Virginia, after George Floyd, they outlawed RNC and have categorized it as lethal force. Using it without justifiable lethal force, is considered excessive force and is a felony. Virginia also outlawed us putting our knees on peoples backs while handcuffing prone suspects. Knee across the shoulder blades is a perfectly safe behavior. Its when used excessively that it can cause damage, just like every tool provided to Law Enforcement officers. Policing, has turned into a joke. Promotions are based on politics, criminals are protected, DAs let criminals off to victimize innocent people daily. I’ve always wanted to be a cop growing up and now I’m trying to get out. 5 years of experience which I can’t use anywhere else.

As some one with severe adult ADD, I find that of all of the things you would figure would create an attention deficit, it would be the long form interview/interrogation. However, considering that I have 23 years of service between the Corps and the ANG and 18 years as an Active LEO, I identify with all of your guests, I identify with you, I identify with your philosophy on life, accountability, success and failure. Time and time again I find myself coming up short in my dealings with my children or with my spouse, though I seem to have no issues dealing with the public. I am on a straight and narrow focused path in order to make the changes in my life that I need to make to be the man that society needs me to be to allow my family to contribute in a meaningful way to this world. Thank you. Guys like you, Shawn Ryan, Mike Glover, Tim Kennedy, the guys at Black Rifle the Warrior Poet society... they are much needed and have been since the dawn of warfare. Warfighters expressing their emotions and describing their failings and their course corrections is immensely helpful. Keep up the great work Sir!

Always loved Tim, but damn he really is one of those high-level extremely gifted guys. Just hearing about his ability to do extremely well and to rise up the ranks very quickly shows you how great the guy truly is, but as with all greatness it is rooted in the humbling of the individual which prepared him for true greatness..
EDIT: Back watching the rest of the episode - 3:18:07 onwards - damn, both of them get really emotional here. You can tell that Jocko identifies totally with that passage he just read before. Probably most serviceman share that exact sentiment, war is tough man 😥

I got to know jocko from Tim and Jocko podcast from 2016 which was the year after I graduated High school. 2012, I came as an immigrant and worked so hard that I would pray to God every to just let me die. I was mentally defeated, exhausted and lost. After founding out jocko I slowly began to turn my life around, I learned to love and appreciate the freedom I enjoy in this greatest country.
It took few years to practice Extreme ownership but slowly and surely my life changed and people around me recognized that change. I joined the US. Army and went to Community college. Then I transferred over to a State university, received my US citizenship through the Army and did everything I can to do make the most out of all things I did . I competed in the Best warrior competition at the highest level possible I got accepted to Dental school with 5% acceptance in my first time.
I call jocko my 2nd Jesus because I was born again after I found Jocko. Jocko may never know how much I thank and appreciate all he has done for me but I just want to say ; Jocko Thank you so much.
