I was a fisheries observer on a 50m Spanish trawler working near the Grand Banks (nr where Titanic reportedly went down) June-Sept 2001. Recording what the lads caught, location, how much etc for NAFO (North Atlantic Fisheries Organisation). They were looking for Greenland halibut. They couldn't fish there without being observed to try and preserve the stock after the relatively recent collapse of the cod industry through over fishing. We left from Vigo empty, took 10-12 days to steam across. It was a tough experience even as just an observer. They towed for 12 hours in 1100-1400m water, it took over an hour to haul the net to the surface. They used two nets, straight after the first net was hauled up they sent the next net one over the side before processing the catch. The organisation/team work required to perform that task safely was extremely difficult and challenging. Crew standing within 5m of an open stern under blinding float lights often in driving rain, on a moving platform routinely at night. It was like watching an F1 pit crew working in slow motion. Any slip over the side and the chances of recovery in 4C water before death was slim at best. Add to that thick fog for days, like living inside a ping pong ball for 3 days at a time, followed by the most amazing sun set ever seen. Being in a situation where i was largely ignored by a Spanish speaking crew who didn't like me recording their catch, not having communication for home (2001), changed me. I needed a few weeks back on land, seeing random people, being able to move around unrestrictedly, able to interact normally again. But reasonably good money, tax free and i got 3 days holiday in St Johns so can't complain. Got back 2 days before 9/11..

That new technology on that older ship blew my mind, there was no skimping back on anything. I see some ppl saying it looks plain, but they have no clue about the quality of tech, and steel trawlers seaworthiness. This ship/yacht is like a blank canvas with everything else being thought of at the highest quality, not fancy carbon, or fiberglass and glass ice chandeliers. This is actually a real ship, tried and proven already, all the bells and whistles are on the important parts, the nav, and other systems.

I have been waiting and waiting for this one, and I have to say thank you for following through and posting a video of the finished product as promised. There's a lot of RUclipsrs that will post vids at the beginning of a build and leave us all hanging.... much appreciated. This boat is definitely something special and it's most definitely a maze on the inside, but it also is a machine that will take it's lucky owners and guests to the end of the earth and back again in safety and comfort. It's also way out of my price range! Thanks again, and keep the vids coming and I'll keep watching!

Good looking vessel. I particularly like the glass skylights though I rely on Damen to ensure that they are safe and leak proof. I am sorry that the crew quarters remain doubles even though permitted by IMO. I would have hoped that they could have found space for 4 extra singles. As a former crew member singles are definitely preferable.
The bridge is remarkable. The automation is excellent. I was shocked by the range difference under Tier 3. I don’t understand why such a difference.
My itinerary would sail from Europe to Newfoundland to the Caribbean to Panama to Galapagos to Peru to Easter island to Tahiti to Vanuatu to Papua New Guinea to Phuket to Sri Lanka to Goa to Mombasa to Djibouti to Suez to Santorini to Malta to Ibiza to Puerto Banus to Gibraltar to Azores to New York.

The form and function of her is also comfortable and with safety in mind as in the all of the ships areas.

  • @norarivkis2513
    @norarivkis2513 Год назад +6

She's beautiful. Looks like she'd take a LOT of crew to manage, but if you can afford to keep nine or ten people on full time staff just to keep your boat running, she'd be a load of fun.
Only thing I can think of that I would change if she were my boat (and presuming that I could afford her) would be to knock out that master stall shower and put in a good deep bathtub instead. With the amount of fresh water that watermaker can produce, it would be plausible to use properly; and it's my personal ultimate luxury/comfort item.
I like the lack of opulence in the rooms. I've always felt that I would be a little uncomfortable with lavish luxury... I prefer physical comforts and quiet unobtrusiveness, and that's what I see in the design on this boat. I can certainly imagine people who would look at it in consternation for that, and wonder where all the bells and whistles are; but I would enjoy it just the way it is.
Well, except for that bathtub. 🛁

Beautiful ship, I'm no naval architect but those cut away/recessed bulwarks with boarding access port and stbd. don't make a lot of sense to me, very little freeboard and in any kind of sea state I'd imagine a hindrance to the vessel, just looks wrong.
Like I said I'm no expert but if something doesn't look right it normally isn't, very odd to me to compromise the freeboard and hydrodynamics of the hull with a gimmick of convenience on what is otherwise apparently a very sea capable vessel, in a big, confused seastate with breaking swells I'd prefer as much freeboard as possible.
PS I haven't seen the previous video on the modifications and refit, maybe I should?? Bridge is exceptionally well equipped, but that counts for nothing IMO with those oddities just above the waterline

    • @-mike--m-9629

Those recesses bring the gross tonnage under 500 GT so saves a lot of rules to apply to and they make great access for ribs if you noticed the way the bullwarks are constructed these recesses don't compromise the seaworthiness

I'm impressed by the wheelhouse and the quality of the overall build seems impressive. I know this was designed by the owner with his tastes in mind but as an overall package I couldn't do it. For an explorer vessel who may be in remote areas for long periods of time the crew area needs to be better. They should each have their own sleeping space with no sharing. The interior of this vessel gives off a Naval ship vibe in the crew and guest spaces. I'm not interested in super high end luxury but I would expect to have at least a mid range accommodations for me and guests.
It's great that the owner wanted to repurpose an existing hull but for my money I would start with a new build.

This Trawler is very impressive and the attention to detail is very impressive as well. But I would like to see the state of the decks and that open ended kitchen area at the Bow after a few heavy storms with huge waves crashing over the Bow area washing it in sea water. That’s why fishing Trawlers are built with no fancy wooden decking.

I enjoy the trawler conversions. Is anyone aware of a former Naval vessel (Corvette, Frigate, Destroyer - recognizing that the ship classification often depended upon size, tonnage, armament, and intended usage) converted into a yacht? I would enjoy seeing videos of such a finished conversion.

Epic boat , just done the outside tour . As for the galley . haute cuisine is fine , regular food is good too !
For charter , for most scary , fuel and crew ?

Do the set lights have blinds? I'm just thinking of summers at high latitudes... it's bad enough in Scotland in the summer. Without blinds it's tricky to sleep.
It's a great conversion, some years ago I went in the late Lt Commander Buster Crabbe's converted Fife trawler. Considerably smaller than this but again a vessel chosen for its superb sea handling and sea worthiness.
Apparently Crabbe would tease the naval mine hunting fleet as he would make a point of staying out in all wearhers whilst they scurried for port!

I know EXACTLY where Texel is. Used to see it from Den Helder when I lived there 40+ yrs ago. Didn't know anyone there had ties to the sea anymore like in the old days. And moved to the States in '79? What's the name? I'd love to hear his story. And what a cool ship! First class build. It really sets the explorer juices to flowing. You could go or do just about anything with this boat. Ah well... 😊
