As someone who does not have obsessive compulsive disorder, I nonetheless find it very rude and disrespectful when others draw reference to the disorder to tease those who may be very clean and tidy, and so forth. Those with OCD are obviously suffering deeply and I don't find their illness to be funny or a source to poke fun at others in the least.

Theduckhunter50 hahaha, I know exactly what you're talking about. I think everyone is different and also have different standards that they set for themselves. A great example, for some people. going to bed at any time and if they're too tired, they can skip out on brushing their teeth or perhaps even wearing the same very clothes and that's entirely acceptable. For others, going to bed at an exact time and waking at an exact time, brushing, changing, washing, etc, are all very important. It's all about what you value. Honestly speaking though, a person's habits, hygiene, and cleanliness says a lot about them though. It's just like when you go out to a restaurant. You'd have far more confidence and enjoyment if you felt secure knowing it was very clean and hygienic.

    • @TheRedCoke
      @TheRedCoke 8 лет назад +3

+keziah cary I just find It funny how most people think of OCD as just cleaning. It can be a lot more sinister than that. Gradually OCD can get worse and attach on to other worries developing them into bigger ones. Eventually it can make you delusional and insane to the point relationships break up. The rituals, worries, obsessions will take over your life and suck the life out of you. It's the worst form of mind trickery and because OCD can be stressful to most people, the headaches just develop into another obsession 'I have a brain tumor'. OCD is one big circle of living hell and therapy isn't recommended because talking in depth about it only makes it worse. Medication in my opinion is the only way to gain back a little bit of control and make life easier.

"Imagine you have the urge to wash your hands. The orbitofrontal cortex recognizes that something is wrong, that your hands are dirty. The caudate nucleus kicks in and causes you to automatically wash your hands. Then the cingulate cortex registers satisfaction that your hands are clean. But in someone with OCD, this loop is altered. Even after he notices that his hands are dirty and he washes them, he still has the discomforting feeling that something is wrong, that they are still dirty. So he is stuck in a feedback loop that won’t stop."

I'm tired of people in the comments saying they have OCD, when in fact, they didn't go to any medical professional in order to diagnose them. If you self-diagnosed yourself as having OCD, you don't. Everyone has "compulsions", OCD is just more extreme, like the ones shown in the video. If your compulsions aren't extreme, you DON'T have OCD.

Thank God for the people who post these videos on obsessive compulsive disorder... It helps me to watch them as I have had o.c.d since as far back as I can remember. My earliest memory was when I was about 7-8 years old. My brother and I were walking down a sidewalk taking care to avoid the cracks. I will never forget our conversation. I noticed the way he was walking (avoiding all cracks and he was counting) again, I will NEVER forget this... I looked over at him and I said "what are you doing, I do that too" And all he said was " I don't know, i just do it". And that was it, I knew I wasn't the only one. Because for a long time I thought I was the only one who did this and thought I was crazy. Which is why I never told my dr's. I thought they would take my kids away and put me in a mental institution. We both continue to be plagued by o.c.d and will for the rest of our lives. I finally got diagnosed in 2014 and see a psychologist regularly. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. It consumes me. I stay to myself and in my home unless I ABSOLUTELY have to go somewhere. I avoid going out in public as much as possible, as I also have social anxiety real bad. These films are so educational and helpful to myself and I'm sure many others so thank you.

  • @saltedcaramel9362

Fortunately mine has gotten a lot less severe, or at least I don't seem to be developing any new habits. My first recollection of this feeling was avoiding the edges of sidewalks and floor tiling at Disney World when I was around five. If I did step on a line I had to do it with my other foot as well, then repeat it. At one point I went to a restaurant in another state and accidentally brushed my right hand against a chair when I was leaving, then did it again with my left when I had the opportunity to come back. Highest number I've ever had to do something was 21, for an entire year. Years ending seemed to help some. My parents eventually noticed I was avoiding floor tiling and started making me walk on it intentionally, at least, they tried.

I used to suffer from OCD, it started when I was 16, but now I'm 23 and I managed to cure myself from it. There were so many, many terrible situations in all those years, but now, looking back, I'm even prouder I won the fight against my illness all by myself. There are only few situations now that I feel OCD could come back (and sometimes it does to a small extent), but then it is all about controlling yourself and your thoughts and the phase passes. And after some time, these few, weak phases will end forever, too. So guys, never give up, it is not impossible to get well again when you have OCD! Even without a therapy ;)

there are lots of types of OCD .. you don't have to be extremely clean or like him .. for me.. i'm obsessed with self harming and suicide thoughts and also about curiosity .. i'm curious to know every single thing said, written , posted everything ! some other things too ... it really sucks, but i'm checking with a doctor and i'm getting better i guess.. for those who have OCD you should check a doctor it's serious and tiring ! i hope u all get better too :)

my OCD is mentally, when im nervous because i also have a general anxiety and social anxiety disorder, i tend to fix myself my saying to myself words like calm down.. be easy to urself.. dont worry too much and then when im fixed i can go on but if panic attacks seconds later i repeat the "fixation" thing until i get satisfied. i know its pure nonsense but i feel i should think of it. it consumes my day because im a very worried man. it is mentally torturing me. God help me. even when im watching my favorite show or doing my favorite hobby, the panicking still attacks, i tend to worry about anything in my mind rather than being happy at the moment, so then i fix myself again until i get satisfied over and over again and the next thing i know the movie is finished while i dont understand a thing from it because of my disease. i dont have a normal life.. seems like it's eating my brain and soul and i couldnt get away from it. even when im sleeping i still worry, oftenly i get angry for being a worried person, then i get stressed out and then i feel like just killing myself. worst mental disorder ever. FUCK it! can someone help me?

When I was younger, I used to have OCD, and I hated. I remember when I was in 1st grade, this kid always touches my food and says "are you gonna eat that?", and I just give it to him after he touched it. I never got to eat anything after I decided to say no to the kid. I almost cried because how weird I felt.

I find that it helps to not try and fight it, but adapt to ways of allowing it to exist in your life. If I'm waiting at a pharmacy, by the time I leave all of their bits and bobs on the counter are arranged parallel, pens clicked off, lollipops sprayed out of their container like it's in a flower arranging contest. It's a compulsion, but I figure 'what the heck?' it's not harming anyone, it gives me something to do whilst waiting and I can smile about how they must react when they notice some strange chap has put a lot of effort into tidying their place up for them. There are things which I have to cope with on an ongoing basis and I can be tough. But fighting it increases your anxiety and makes it a lot worse. Try to find comfortable ways of adapting to satisfy the compulsions yet reduce the amount of torture they put you through. If you have the condition, you have it. Carry on living your life and try not to let it take over. Also, look into so called flooding techniques. They are really helpful in breaking cycles, as you can't possibly keep up with the demand to meet all your desires. So some have to be left unfulfilled and the stress you experience has to be resolved through its own means.

I have bad OCD for the hand washing thing and germs which is not good because I have bad chemical sensitivities. I totally get what he meant by how his hands feel dirty even when he doesn't touch anything. I probably wash my hands about 50 times a day at least so my hands are always breaking out in rashes and cracking... My hands live on hydrocortisone cream when they're cracked and really bad and Johnsons's baby lotion when they're only red... Anything else makes them worse. I have terrible anxiety when I'm somewhere that doesn't have a sink nearby, so school was awful. I spent my short 3 minutes between every class to go to the bathroom just to wash my hands.
Whenever I touched something dirty with one hand in class and couldn't go wash my hands, I clenched that hand into a fist literally the entire class period to remind myself not to touch my face or anything else with that hand until I can go wash it. And use my unsoiled hand to touch my face, clothes, etc. If I have to touch something else dirty the same hour, I use the hand that's already dirty.
I wash my hands immediately after touching practically anything that isn't in my room at home that only I touched with my washed hands... I don't even let my family touch anything of mine without washing their hands, and even if they do, I still don't want them touching me or anything I own because they're someone else's hands... I clip my fingernails to nubs so dirt and germs can't get trapped under them. I constantly buy disinfecting wipes to wipe things I've bought before using them. I wipe my phone down with a wipe every day when I come home along with my purse, and anything else that's been out. I have to take a shower and change my clothes when I get home or I can't do anything else. Even if I just went outside for 1 minute to take the trash out, I have to go wash and change my clothes. I yell at my family for wearing shoes in the house cause then I have to steam the carpet again and again. There's just too many thoughts I have about everything germy it's overwhelming... I'm definitely an obsessive freak... Having this is a pain in the butt, but I still think it's better than being a dirty slob...

I grew up in India and I had OCD while growing up. I didn't know it was called that back then. could sense dirt on my hand and would keep washing it and i kept repeating some words to feel satisfied. I also had to blink both of my eyelids the same way to make them even. I got over it by exposing myself to more chaos. But it is crazy how I, who hailed from a dirty desert rural area of India with almost no standards of proper hygiene, can have the same disorder as people in the western countries. We are kind of all the same . Just have different skin colors.

I've had OCD my whole life and have had literal panic attacks about ridiculous stuff like for example having an open cut and going to school or being in public i'd be so freaked out somehow I would contract HIV by touching something. Washing my hands 30 times a day, checking the doors 5+ times a night to make sure they're locked etc. I even went through something 1000x worse in my late teenage years caused by OCD which I don't want to get into but It made me seriously consider suicide. My whole life I've been diagnosed as ADHD and forced to take crap like Adderall which just made me feel worse, It was only a year ago I realized I had OCD and it all makes sense now, I'm currently taking Prozac and it helps a lot but I still can't escape my OCD completely

whenever i do something like clapping, i have to clap evenly like left side 3 right side 3. if its not then i will re-do until i'm satisfied. everytime i go into the bathroom, when i see a dirty spot, i try to avoid it like its poisonous. and almost everything i do, it has to be the same number like writing for example, if i draw the brackets unevenly, i have to erase the whole thing and do it again until im satisfied. urgh, such an annoying thing.

    My OCD rituals:
When waking up at 6: 32 with +- 6min error margin, scratch left cheek, yawn 3 times, pee, have breakfast (i have a schedule for regulated breakfast).
When getting home, leave stuff at the specific spot on my desk next to my window, no more than 30 cm from the chair. Take a bath with the soap in a specific order of cleaning phases. Wash hands at maximum 2 hours period from each hand washing. Take baths always 2 times a day.
Specific: Always have 3-4 different meals on plate. Eat on anti-clock direction. Meals are regulated on plates, having 90 degress if 4 food types, and 120 if 3. None must touch the food without gloves. Always do things the same time in each hand if possible, breath exactly 3 times very quickly if you can't do it in odd pairs. If more then 3 times, slap yourself and again.
Also, touching must be avoided, only possible if they are clean. They must not touch things softly, only hard and steady, or I must count to 4 in my mind. Hospitals and places with so many germe threat must be avoided. Label everything if possible.

I'm far from OCD, however I watched how therapists help people, and things that bug me I try to desensitize myself, doesn't matter what it is. I hate loud noises like vacuums so forced myself to listen to it, or go where I was scared to, just general stuff like that, but it helped a lot.

    i definitely have ocd.
    1. when I use the bathroom I wash my hands halfway up my arms, and for longer than average.
    2. I check all of the outlets in the house multiple times before I go to bed, and even in places where there arent any outlets, because I am afraid that a fire will occur overnight.
3, I check around my house before bed to make sure that nothing is out of place, and is not any where near the edge of a counter or I think it will fall and hit one of my pets while im sleeping.
    3. i cant use a cup more than once or I feel it is bad luck.
    4. cant do anything 3 times, or that has anything to do with the number 3, for example i cant have 3 cups of water I can only have more or less tban 3 at a time.
    5. I cannot play xbox without washing my hands before doing so bc I feel my controller will break.

I have a mild form of OCD which is completely different from this guy. Mine consists of staring at things for long periods, just to make sure that what I'm looking at is right. This could be anything from making sure the dials on a cooker are all switched off, staring constantly because my brain doesn't want me thinking that they are off. Another example would be light and plug socket switches, where I'd have to just stare to confirm to myself they are switched off. I also have trouble with reading certain things and words because I don't believe at first what I'm looking at actually says what it says! It's really complicated to understand myself, let alone trying to explain to other people!

And also, being a 14 year old with CDO, I'm a messy person, but if one thing is put out of place I will notice it and it'll take hours for me to put it at the same angle in the same place. But it's mostly just from ancestors. Not exactly sure why we do, but usually some people have not CDO but just an urge to fix something, and they automatically think they have CDO but they don't and it's not really anything to make fun of. It drives me insane when pictures on the wall aren't in a straight line, my Geography teacher has these papers and they're all crooked and I want to scream, bu I'm in school and I know I can't do that. So there blows until I get home.

When I met the love of my life, married , had kids, I was so thankful to God, for giving me strength, I love my children so much(ex-wife not so much). My point is, use your ocd for positive things, obsessed about good grades, or hobbies, later on being a good mother, it will happen and you'll be glad your here to enjoy them.

-I then push the pantry doors
-I straighten the kitchen chairs, push the fridge doors, and touch the kitchen light switches

Whenever I put anything down, I have to slide it onto the surface of whatever I'm putting the thing down on a whole bunch of times (I never count but it's at least eight times) and on my phone I have to swipe across the screen or when I'm texting swipe down a whole bunch or swipe up. Even before I'm pressing send on this I'm swiping the text up. The

    Been Watching my dad doing something repeatedly . When i was 4 y.o until now i’m 27 y.o .
For example : 4 times raising hand, 3-4 times raising head, washing hands, make sure lock the door more than once, turn off the stove, and many more.
When i was kid, i felt lil shame. Cause there was a time, he seems like he didnt hear or didnt response because he’s doing raising hands or heads 4-5 times while i was talking to him.
But now i know he has OCD , i hope he can survive 😢

I also used to have to do things a certain number of times before I could do anything else but for me it was in sets of 32. Luckily it’s gotten much better now that I’m taking medication.

Its so weird because im 17 and its only the past few weeks it hit me i have OCD, and its happened for years but i always tried to turn a blind eye to the thoughts. Blinking a certain amount of times, quickly raising my head up whenever I'd look at a light, rolling my eyes all over the place blinking in a certain number of times, not sitting down properly so i get back up to sit down again hoping its the perfect seating, scratching my pinky finger again the palm of my hard numerous times and ending it on the hardest scratch. OCD is fucking shit on a real, it happens without you even realising it.

0:41 wow those eyes are amazing.
I am not diagnosed with OCD but think I have some of it's traits. Constantly bleaching everything. Can clean the bathroom up to 5 times a day, until my eyes start tearing up from the bleach. The more stressed or anxious I am the more I clean. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Better than living in a filthy home, only downside is i can't switch off.

I'm always the one guy that closes and locks a door and walks away and runs back to check if I locked it.

My OCD restricts me to do things, for example while drinking coffee I don't know from which side should I drink, because when I decide for instance to drink from anterior side I know I should not do that or something bad happens, than I change the corner and it repeats again and again and I wait till the right area shows up, sometimes it never does. And sometimes when I cross the street and see that car is coming I have to step on the kerb-stone before the position of me and car becomes parallel.

I dont think that i have OCD, but i wash my hands always, because i feel like they are dirty, like after touching a dog, or just picking up something.. Other REALLY annoying thing not only to me, but to my family is that i check if the door is lock to my room, Like no go and check it once or twice, i can spend up to 30 mins checking if the door is locked, when i go to bed, and i keep on saying to my self "I locked the door for sure" but ofc, i get up and check it again.. So should i get help or what? What people do if something like that happens to them? And it started around 2-3 years ago..

So I have these headphones that have a button where you can turn on 7.1 surround sound. Every time I put them on I always make sure I look at the button to make sure it's turned on exactly 8 times, (7 + 1), It's really annoying but I can't get rid of it. This comment was in correct grammar on purpose.
