The reason why Christian is clarifying this because most people don’t understand what OCD really is. It’s unreasonable ritualistic behavior. And not many people get that
Exactly! Working in the food industry, I try to keep every restaurant I work at clean. People called me OCD for sweeping the floor. After I left, those dunderheads left the place so messy, they got rodents and got shut down! As a beer brewer and cannabis grower, keeping my workspace clean and organized is a point of pride, not a "disorder." Slobs call people who have standards "OCD" so they can justify their own lazy attitude!

I had ocd. And severe ocd at that, I watched this video and it blows my mind how similar we thought. I seeked help and now I have it under control and it no longer controls me :)
I know what OCD is like. I've had it for years, but at this time, I feel I have it under control. There are two things that helped me overcome it. First, I kept reminding myself that the things that annoy you when you have OCD are NOT REAL. Second, overcoming OCD takes courage. If you can just tell yourself, that, if you build up the courage to overcome it, there's no turning back. With this being said, have to courage to overcome it, and it's done. You can't go back. Even if you wanted to, you can't. I hope this helps someone who suffers from it. I know this may not make sense, but the entire process of OCD makes no sense.
It’s true, when I was younger it seemed like every year it would get worst, finally I saw a documentary on RUclips a few years back and I found out I wasn’t the only one, and one day after getting Fed up with stress I decided I’m not going to do anything my mind tells me to and I’m going to live a normal life, and thank god. I never looked back.
Imagine him in the party chat: “I’ll be back” “okay I’m back is everyone still here” *Yes* “Okay I’ve gotta verify it one more time say your name out loud so I know everyone is still here”

So whether all of modern psychology realizes this or not its so important. Had terrible social anxiety amd exposure was the only thing that worked. The anxiety is literally our old natural flight or fight. Just takes a lot of honing in the modern world. It's complicated!
As a person who suffered from extreme OCD , this is very correct. And I'm not even trying to be like those people who say as a person who has been that I can confirm this and that. I recently came out of this stage of OCD. I still battle it every day, keeping it at bay. Now I spend about 10-20 minutes on it daily. which is manageable. but, OCD, is one od the most difficult things ever. Imagine being a prisoner inside your own mind. Questioning daily activities, hygiene and everything you touch.
"I'm a prisoner of my own head." I've said that exact same thing before. I was diagnosed with OCD at 12. When I was 20 I tried committing suicide because I couldnt take the never ending rituals and the constant "no do that again, you didn't do that right" from my brain. I don"t have OCD as intense as this guy thank goodness. I'm now 34 and have sought therapy and gotten medication. My life is so much better now. The OCD is still there but it's not nearly as strong as it is without the medication. I hope this guy can get help and have a normal life.
This breaks my heart... I have OCD that was getting progressively worse as well and somehow I've managed to reduce it to almost completely functional levels. I still have to obsessively check everything in my house multiple times before I can leave (faucets, lights, windows and door locked). Counting specific seconds or times I've checked everything. Among a myriad of other bizarre tendencies... It's hard on those around me because mine is not debilitating anymore and they don't understand why it takes me ten minutes to walk away from my car sometimes. I can just imagine what it's like for his wife too. It gets worse on occasion and I have no clue if it has something to do with my mental state or what. All I know is there was a point in my life where I realized if I don't start doing something to curb it, I will end up like this with no control at all anymore. Sending him so much love. ❣️
Do you know why you are doing these things? What do you think will happen if you dont do these things? I am very curious what goes on in your head when you want to stop the act but you cant stop it. What are you thinking at that moment
@@noraRvx This is purely from what I've experienced as someone with OCD - we do know why we do these things, we feel we have to; but we don't know why we have to. When we look a little deeper into the mechanisms behind it we understand that there is an obsession (if I forget to turn the stove off before I leave the house, the house will burn down) and then the compulsion - satisfying the psychological need to relieve ourselves of the obsession. So if I check the stove before I leave the house, I know it's off, and the house won't burn down. However the obsession is not always satisfied in the way that normal thoughts are... I equated the obsession to normal thoughts people have, to make sure the stove is turned off before leaving the house is very normal indeed. To know you haven't even used the stove since the last time you obsessively checked it, and still need to check it repeatedly, is compulsively acting out an obsessive thought. There is literally something in our brain that does not register an action has been done, or even exacerbates the obsession further by getting frustrated with our own brain. It may have to do with anxiety or trauma in my opinion. At the moment we are one thousand percent registering that it is not normal but there is like a hot button that doesn't go off until our personal pattern/compulsion is satisfied. It's very strange, cerebral, and personal to each sufferer of OCD. The worst part is knowing how ridiculous and unnecessary it is, and still being trapped in the need to act it out, it is humiliating and so SO FRUSTRATING knowing that it is not logical and your brain can't stop.
@@noraRvx Basically you are unable to flow with functions from one to the next because you get stuck on actions that you know you've already performed, but it's like there's a missing link and you have to perform it over and over again until your brain registers the action is completed and you can move onto the next thing/moment in your life.

Same. For me its a clock sound. If they sound repetitive, it will drive me insane. So I prefer a clock that didn't make repetitive sound.
It's so interesting to me how fundamentally similar yet how completely different human beings are.
I have OCD and it originally started with me being scared of a movie. But now it adjusted to me having to check the certain color of an object, or a certain sound or scene, even just looking it up and scrolling to the bottom of the page seven times until i think its enough, and if I dont 100% remember it. My brain goes into panic mode until I do. Its debilitating asf.
The repetitive motions are due to intrusive thoughts. So like we get really sudden brutal thoughts that usually are based on our worst fears and then a thought to do something, and until you do that thing the panic and thoughts won't go away.

He seems like such a sweet genuine guy ):
"I'm a prisoner of my own head." I've said that exact same thing before. I was diagnosed with OCD at 12. When I was 20 I tried committing suicide because I couldnt take the never ending rituals and the constant "no do that again, you didn't do that right" from my brain. I don"t have OCD as intense as this guy thank goodness. I'm now 34 and have sought therapy and gotten medication. My life is so much better now. The OCD is still there but it's not nearly as strong as it is without the medication. I hope this guy can get help and have a normal life.
This is very real. Him and I have way too much in common and it's destroying my life. I consider giving up almost every day.
@@kaylaatkins1915 wow.. that indeed seems very frustrating. Especially when you know it does not make sense.
